If you're looking to farm Chunk o' Mammoth, you should know that as part of Blizzard's new dynamic sub-zone system, these become much more common after allying with the Sons of Hodir. Before that point this valley is filled with hostile giants and worgs.

These can't drop Arctic Fur what's really disappointing as skinner. I skin like 50 of them every day while doing dailies because I find them dead all the time (ppl kill them much) and when i think how many Arctic Furs I could have if they drop it... :S

If you look closely enough they got printed on their forheads the face of the same character, I presume one of the Old Gods that we will provably encounter later in the game, who's image pops out in the first pool of water in Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom. :]

As it seems, these don't yield Arctic Furs. I killed over 600 of these and hat none drop. See Skinning Tab for clarification (100% Borean Leather).

Damn I find this out that late.

Just asked a GM about it and he confirmed it and also explained, that it is intentional since these mammoth packs have a very short respawn time (about one minute) and would be too easy to AoE-farm for furs.

Question: If i try to farm this recipe on my level 65 shaman (who is not allied with the Sons of Hodir) with a level 80 friend (who is allied with the Sons of Hodir) will i get to roll on the drop?
Still unsure if this will work, but my friend killed about 100 mammoths without it dropping so perhaps it doesn't.

These are great to farm for Chunk o' Mammoth, I hunted them for 1 hour as a PvP geared 80 Rogue (so limited healing and poor aoe.. since I dont use a FoK glyph) and here's what I got:

6 1/2 stacks of mammoth meat (approx 390g since they go for about 60g/stack on my server)
1 1/5 stacks of chilled meat (15g)
2 DE-able ilvl75+ greens (approx 25g)
Tons of vendorable greys (77.55g)

In addition to that I got a blue JC pattern (bop unfortunately), a stack of saronite (which i'll prospect, but sell for about 13-16g) and 2 everfrost chips (though im already exalted with hodir).

So you can make approx 500g/hour depending on how much the mammoth meat is worth on your server, probably more if you have a paladin / mage or better aoe class and even more still if you're a skinner.
