A boss in Drak'Tharon Keep.

Abilities:

* He imprisons himself in a crystal shield,, which players must break during the fight in order to damage him. While he is shielded, the fight has several steps:
o He summons a constant flow of non-elite mobs and the occasional elite Wight.
o Periodically summons an additional caster NPC which must be killed and looted to gain a key.
o Keys are used to break through the layers of his shield.
* Once the shield is down, mobs stop spawning and you fight Novos himself. His abilities are:
o Random Frostbolts.
o AOE Blizzards: Slow movement speed by 75%.
o Curses a random target, causing 10k damage over 10 seconds.

Confirmed Loot

* Robes of Novos (Cloth Chest)
* Crystal Pendant of Warding (Neck)
* Summoner's Stone Gavel (1-Handed Mace)

No, he isn't Lady Vashj-like. Lady Vashj had an interesting mechanic in having to throw the cores around since you were immobilized and they despawned quickly.

This is copy pasted Avatar of Hakkar from Sunken Temple. Constant flow of non-elites (Hakkari serpent, Fetid troll corpse) occasional elite (Nightmare suppressor, Wight) and occasional add with loot (Hakkari bloodkeeper, Summoner). You loot the summoners, you click the pedastals, you kill the easy boss.

Boss Fight (Normal).

He does a few abilities.

Wrath of Misery: Places a curse on a target inflicting 10,000 damage over 10 seconds.
Arcane Blast: Damages the current target. for 1750-1950 arcane damage, and then knocks them back.
Frostbolt: Casts a frostbolt at random group members for ~3000 frost damage. Can be mitigated and resisted.
Blizzard: Calls down a blizzard on a targeted party member inflicting 1650-1940 frost damage every 2 seconds..

Phase 1

The boss will spawn a shield around him. in this stage he is unattackable.
waves of non elites will spawn from the stairs to the left they have between 2-3kand just get AoE'd down.
Every so oftern, an elite will spawn with the non elite waves. it is advisable for the tank to pick up this mob.
During the waves of trash. 4 Crystal Handler will spawn. when killed. a pylon supporting Novos's shield. 4 of these will spawn.
After all 4 pylons are down, phase 2 begins.

Phase 2

At the start of this phase the shield around the boss drops and the boss becomes engaged.
During this phase the boss will use all of his 4 abilities.
Novos will randomly target group members and cast Frostbolt. This must be healed through.
Novos will also target Blizzard on selected members. it is advised that players move out of this to help their already busy healers.
Arcane blast will be cast on the main target occasionally. this target will also be knocked backed.
Novos's last ability he will use in this phase is Wrath of Misery. This is a dot that will be placed on a random target member that will deal 1,000 damage every second for 10 seconds.

Frost resistance is helpful but not required for this fight.

Note: Whatever you do, DO NOT MIND CONTROL A CRYSTAL HANDLER. This will cause them to despawn, bugging the encounter.

We learned this the hard way last night. 3 crystal handlers dead, 3 crystals gone, but because the one despawned, he never came back, and thus the encounter just kept spamming us with the other random spawns, never ending the shield on the boss.

Also, FYI, the boss CAN be reset. Run out of the room, down the hallway fully into the next room. After the encounter is reset, the bug goes away, and the encounter can be done as normal.

His corpse vanishes somewhen. So if you are on the quest Head Games, do it directly after killing him. My group was very fast and I missed the questgiver inside the instance. After soloing the few mobs to get to him, I found all boss corpses except for this guy.

I'd just like to add that the encounter has changed since beta, and the original comments about keys being looted are incorrect.

The mobs vary between various elite and non-elites, but the important ones are the crystal handlers. There are four crystals around Novos, and there are four crystal handler mobs that spawn. Each time you kill one, one of the crystals around him is deactivated. Deactivate all four and the shield goes down.

Warriors if you can REFLECT HIS CURSE.

Causing a lot of damage on normal and heroic.
EDIT: Linking didn't show the damage, its ~1700dmg every 2 seconds on normal, ~2800dmg every 2 seconds on heroic
If you have improved reflect it even will bounce it off your melee buddies!

Just soloed as a level 80 feral druid. 5/5 T7 and equivalent pieces for non-tier slots.

Skipped over Grizzly Hills while leveling and wanted to get the achievements in the zone. The first part of this quest which leads into Drak'Tharaon Keep is Search and Rescue. I simply prowled to the webbed prisoners and from a distance used moonfire on all the cocoons until i found Kurzel. (which happened to be the very last one for me).

Afterwards you get this quest, Head Games, as a follow up which requires you to kill Novos and use Kurzel's Blouse Scrap with his corpse to obtain the Ichor-Stained Cloth which is needed to complete this quest and is turned in to Mack.

I stood on the stairs in Dire Bear Form and used Swipe on all the adds. When the Handler's came i used Bash and proceeded to burn them down. After releasing the boss i switched into Cat Form and began dpsing, popping Berserk immediately. He only used Wrath of Misery once, which i quickly Removed. When he used Blizzard and Frostbolt i would quick-shift into cat form and run out of the AoE's range. At 25% health I shifted back into Dire Bear Form and used my Frenzied Regeneration to bring me back up to speed. After bumping myself back up to 80% health ( I also have the Glyph of Frenzied Regen. ) i shifted to caster form, used Barkskin + Innervate + Regrowth and back into Cat Form to finish him off. I had to use a Runic Healing Potion at the last 5% (it was too close for my liking) and managed to down him with 3% of my own health remaining.

For pally healers, throwing up a frost resist aura makes this fight even easier than it already is.

Soloed as 80 Endurance DK (Imp Rune Tap, Crypt Fever, MoG, Glyph of DS). Just need to have 24k hp so that DS heals for over 3.5k each time. All quest/craft/rep blues.

Phase 1: Engage with ranged to trigger his shield. Concentrate on the elite until the shield is down. Make sure to have the ghoul hitting the same target as you.

Phase 2: Dance. Heal through the DoT and Frostbolt. When Novos casts blizzard, move to the other side of him to avoid the massive damage. Keep doing this till he drops.

I ran a level 69 Rogue through DTK on my T7/T8-gear Paladin. Even with no healer, the place was cake. This guy, however . . .

Since he's a caster, things like BSanc and Holy Shield are pretty much useless. Wrath of Misery is a curse and, thus, cannot be Cleansed. I alternated between Seal/Judgment of Light/Wisdom, kept Sacred Shield up, etc., and it was still very, very close. Even having used LoH, by the end of the fight, I had about 10% health left of a 36,500 health pool.

According to Recount, the total damage taken for Novos the Summoner: just over 140,000.

It's worthwhile to note that if you're doing a speed run or just want to get the daily HC done ASAP, you can skip Novos as well as King Dred. We were suprised to find out that if you loop past him without getting in aggro range, you can just slip through the door to the room with the Bat Handler. Saves quite a bit of time if you're impatient.

Since 3.3.3, Novos seems to spawn the Crystal Handlers twice as fast. My group could barely get one down before the other came out of the doorway.

Do NOT Mind Control the adds. They will despawn on release and make the encounter incomplete. (Boss won't activate)

the boss can be brutal and yet at other times he's very easy.

the team should park themselves along the wall between the two entrances ( on the right hand side as you enter the room ).
the team should be facing the boss and the stairs where the adds come from.
this has the smallest number of adds, I've seen as few as the 4 summoners here.

once the 4 summoners are down the shield will drop and you need to work on the boss.

On heroic it seems as if the pally ( or tank ) can get a few adds with him next to the boss the boss looses interest in the team.
if there are no other adds next to the pally the boss takes a big interest in the team.
I can only assume that the team was taking a few off shots at adds and helped reduce their aggro on the boss.

he seems fairly tank and spank once there was a nice group of adds on the pally.

The fight against Novos consists of two phases. In the first phase a player should be sent up the stair and take care of the spawning mobs.

The rest of the group fights against the Crystal Handlers called by Novos for assistance. After four waves, Novos will be attackable.

While fighting Novos, the group should watch out for his Blizzard spell and move out of it. Otherwise an easy fight.

Frostbolt - Inflicts 2,313 to 2,687 Frost damage to a random target and reduces his movement speed by 50%.
