You need a flying mount to get there. We couldn't duo hi (70 pally and hunter) as he has an aoe fear that would deaggro the dragon from the pet tank.

Duo'd it with a Combat rogue (me) and a holy spec'd paladin.

Hit for 1600-1800 with a 2.9k breath (you can back up to completely miss it). ~5 minute fight with only 1 source of damage on him.

Oh, he dropped Drakehide Tunic of Spirit.

I 4 manned him with a druid tank (me), rogue, priest and pally. He has a flame breath attach, a short range AoE fear (Make the healer stand close, or he will attack the healer immediately after fear) and hits fairly hard. Other than that, it's an easy fight.

If you really want a challenge, try soloing him as a hunter, he's slow enough that he won't catch up to you with aspect of the cheetah, the main challenges are not running out of mana and dodging all the mobs up there. When I soloed him i got a drakehide tunic of the wolf! agility and spirit, hell yes!

Was able to 3 man this critter with a Hunter, Warrior and Shaman.

He breathes fire and also has a short duration AOE Fear.

Dropped a cloth frost resist chest.

Also, tried a few solo attempts as a hunter. Very difficult he cannot be slowed and is faster than you unless you have cheetah on. You can keep a pet on him for improved DPS but its a risk since the pet will path through the numerous 70-72 level mobs roaming all over the plateau.

Just soloed him as a hunter on EU-Alexstrasza, took me about ten minutes of kiting and four Super Mana Potions. Dropped Drakescale Hauberk of the Bear (Mail, 60 Sta, 39 Str) of course... Would have used the 'of the Bandit' but nah... -.-

Hunters can easily solo him by jumping down to sylvanar. Just you need to find a nice place to start your jumping. I used my Parachute Cloak and when I killed him he dropped mail chest with +60agi. Just a tip: sometimes your aren't able to loot the mob, don't know why but I think it's cause of your aggro. I tryed to get the killing blow and sometimes couldn't loot. I've also tryed to do 50% of the damage and still couldn't loot. But now I think that the mob should have enough aggro on you to be lootable. For that, just kite the mob on the circlar path in sylvannar untill it dies. I also died 4 times when kiting cause the pc lag, but when I resed, the dragon was wtill fighting the guards, so I started to gain more aggro and then kited him again :P

Killed him with 2 hunters, 1 mage, 1 priest (fear ward), and a warrior (myself). When he hit me the damage was around 700-800 per hit with Tier 4/ Kara epics (most of the attacks were completely blocked, dodged, parried, etc). He does an AoE fear and a fire breath. The best place to pull him is when he pats close to a forge camp, we didn't have to clear any trash mobs to pull him.
The fight is very easy, the fear can be the biggest problem if you don't have a way of breaking it. I think the fear is spread out so that warriors could stance-dance it, but there is no sign of when he will fear. Like most rare spawns I've done, the drop was sharded. (plate "of elder")

Duo'd with a combat rogue and holy pally, got leather +90stam chest.

The fear pushed me out into aggroing 3 total adds at various points in the fight, clearing ahead of him as much space as you can and keeping centered in it is recommended.

Brought him into the new Ogre camp near by (added in 2.1), he feared them and it was on. They tanked for me while I did damage (frost mage). I got a leather chest of the bandit. It was awesome to watch all those ogres beating him down.

Soloed as a Feral druid in tanking gear (24.5k armor, 30% dodge, 14k hp, crit immune). Just bear him down and run away, HoT (and if you're fast travelform + regrowth) when he uses his flamebreath ability.
It's also alot easier if you go pick up the 15% speed increase buff from the Apexis Relic sites before attempting him, and it's recommended that you bring mana pots.

The real challenge is doing this without aggroing the horde of mobs that patrol all over the place. (I believe it's possible to pull him into one of the many dragonnests and fight him relatively safe there)

This is for those that aren't very keen about cheesing the fight by pulling him to the ogre village, and still want to attempt to do it solo as a druid. :p

Imune to slowing effects, but with boar's speed enchant on boots and speed buff on that plateau you easily outrun him even runing small circle around Ogri'la village mountain. Every circle i aggroed only one mob, that never hit me, he is slower too. Killed in 14 mins as mage with icelance and few frostbolts (when he goes out of range for Icelance).

Solo'd him as an Affliction Warlock, be sure to get the speed buff from the Relic game. I just kited him through Ogri'La and Skyguard area, only had to worry about aggroing other mobs 1/3 thru the path. Be sure to reapply a dot or something every 6 seconds or so so he doesn't deaggro. R1 Siphon Life works well.

This is prob also soloable with any class with an instacast ranged attack. You might even get a few chances to get a couple <2 second casts onto him while you're kiting.

Just solo'd with a hunter... kited him round and around Ogri'la... was a complete joke.

Every once in a while a guard would even toss in a few punches.

Just kept serpent sting up with a random arcane shot and cheetah, easy as pie.

I’ve dropped Hemathion https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=18692 about 6-7 times now, and his BOEs made up about 10% of my epic mount fund. By himself, he’s not that hard of a kite, but since you’re playing Dodge’em with scorpions roughly the size of General Drakk, it really raises the difficulty. Now that I have my mount, I’m not going to farm him any more, so I figured I’d share my secrets.

# Before you start, go to the AH and buy 3-4 pieces of mana regen greens. Buy whatever’s cheapest. It shouldn’t cost you more than 10-15g, which is less than the cost of a stack of pots. You're looking for 30MP5 at least, preferably 40.

# Hemathion spawns either at the north end of the plateau or the south end of the plateau. If he spawns on the north side, wait for him to path east and kite him down the extreme east edge of the plateau.

# Your kite path is going to be a rough oval north of the Fel Cannons at the southern Forge Camp. It is best to run clockwise because it gives you a cleaner approach to the trickiest part.

# The really only tricky part of the kite comes at about 9 o’clock on your oval. There is a small hill and a couple of scorpions near the west edge. Normally, you want to hug the west side of the hill. HOWEVER, there is a giant that sometimes walks through the pass. You have to be extremely alert for him, and if he’s there, you’re going to have to make a tight turn and pass south of the hill instead. Hemathion will get a little close for comfort, but you should be okay.

# Kite with Rank 1 Arcane and max rank Serpent Sting. Fire Arcane whenever it’s up, and reapply Serpent whenever it drops. I have these bound to X and C ... it makes kiting so very much easier.

# After Hemathion is down a couple percent, bring your pet out. Make sure Growl is off and sic him on the dragon. You absolutely need a Dive/Dash pet here. If you're a Beastmaster, you might as well use big red whenever it's up.

# Periodically, your pet will be feared and despawn. Call Pet and resume attack. You may occasionally wish to force a despawn with Stay in order to reset your pet’s aggro. Your pet is going to do a lot of your damage, and it's going to be a long kite if he dies. In the beginning, you may wish to fire a couple Distracting shots just to ensure that your pet doesn’t get aggro.

# If at any time you get aggro from a scorp or giant, drop a Freeze Trap and keep moving. If you’re lucky, they’ll hit the trap. If not you can still outrun them ... maybe.

# At about 10-15%, Hemathion will slow down significantly. At this point, stop going between the hill and the edge, and just stay south of the hill. You can start using Auto Shots at this point, but do not get overconfident.

Hemathion drops a level 68 random blue BOE chest. Most sell in the 50-75g range. Good ones will fetch 150g+. For me, the whole kite takes 15 minutes start to finish. However, I’m a Beastmaster, and SV or MM hunters may take closer to 20, unless you’ve got the mana regen for max rank Arcanes or don't mind potting.

I simply kited him into ogrilla and let him fear aggro the peacekeepers, solo'd him, sadly I only got the cloth chest of Arcane Protection, yuck!

Just killed him by kiting into Ogri'la too. Took about a minute after he had aggroed the ogres. I applaud anyone who has soloed him "properly" but this way is a lot easier ^_^

I got the plate chest of the Beast, which sells for 200g+ according to Allakhazam :D

As a frost mage, I managed to ice lance kite him to Ogri'la. I then ice blocked right behind a guard and waited for him to cast his fire breath so that he may aggro the guard. When he did i proceeded to DPS him down to about 30% at which point the guard died. I then cold snapped when to yet another guard and iceblocked. I then summoned my elemental put him on the dragon and used invisibility to drop all aggro. I then proceeded to nuke him to his death. Easy money :D

Duoed with a holy paladin (me) & affliction warlock, both of us with mostly epic gear. Warlock just drain tanked while I switched between minor dps & heals to keep both of us topped off. When he was feared I would just take the hits or bubble, he's pretty easy for an elite rare.

Dropped plate chest of the gorilla though. -_-

careful when kitting to town as of today a group of allies had brought him to camp and because i needed some health i started to drain life at him, he was at about 50% at the time. When he died I was given loot rights

Pulled him as a druid, occasional Moonfires while travel-forming to Ogri'La, he feared some guards and he was dead. The dice favored me with a random drop of a nice cloth chest "of the Invoker" with int, spell crit and damage.

I didn't have anyone online to help me out when I saw this guy, so I decided to try to kite him to Ogri'la to see what would happen.

The kite was successful, and his fear and flame breath got the attention of the guards, but despite the initial tag and the fact that I attacked him constantly after once the guards got aggro, I didn't have loot rights to the corpse.

So either the guard-tanking method has been nerfed, or you need to score a certain amount of damage to earn his loot.

Solo'ed him on a holy/prot paladin. Wasn't terribly hard, just took a bit of time since I was in my tanking gear. At 501 defense with a little over 250 spell damage, it took a good six or seven minutes to down him with a few lucky crit HS's. Dropped the mail chest with str, stam, crit. Sold for almost 90g on the AH on Aggramar. Very fun!

I soloed him as a druid bear by kiting him to the skyguard post. I picked him up right near there so it was easier than trying to get all the way to the ogre camp. The skyguards did a nice job of DPSing him down.

His melee hits for approx 6-700 melee on 28k armor. His main source of real damage to a tank is his fiery breath, dealing around 3000 resistable fire damage to everyone in front of him. This attack is very difficult, if not impossible, to dodge, as he spins to face you wherever you turn and has a long range. He also does an aoe fear which lasts for 4 seconds and resets aggro. 96k~ hitpoints. Immune to stun.

Pointers if you want to kill him:
Clear the area around the planned fight location as getting feared into more mobs will be an unnecessary nuisance. Use fire resistance gear if youve got it.

A resto shaman and I (hunter) duo'd this mob with my pet (a scorpid with 9000 armour and 6k hp) tanking. Aside from the fears the mob did onto my pet (resulting in either the shaman or I having to kite for a few seconds), it was a long but easy fight. Had to use 2 mana pots, but my pet didn't come close to dying.

The mob dropped a boe mail breastplate that would be pretty decent for a pre-Kara hunter or shaman.

2 maned this mob, (well technically 3 maned my friend 2 boxed a restro shammy and a fire mage) I was on my 70 lock. I doted him and pulled him into the skyguard area and he feared them, then they all started beating on em while we beat him down and i basically tanked.

Saw him walking around 30, 51. Got a group of four together (two frost mages, priest, paladin) and tried killing him then and there the first time. Didn't work because we were gankd and accumulated adds.

Tried it again, but this time pulled him to the skyguard, in the little purple/pink circle. Didn't think they would help, but they did. Horde didn't mess with us. With the help from the skyguard, downed him FAST and still received the loot. The plat piece dropped.

Soloed him as a Feral Druid in some S2/3 Kodohide gear. Took about 10 minutes, wasn't too hard though. Just aggro him as he walks passed Rivendark's Perch and fight him right on top of the eggs. When he starts casting flame breath, run to Rejuv and Lifebloom. I had plenty of time to cast both and pop back into bear before he reached me. His fear never ran me into adds, but got pretty close to the apexis flayers. Might want to kill them for insurance.

You can use the Dragons egg area south of Ogrillah to pull him to without interuption as he passes reasonably close by.

Not easy to solo at all.

Aoe fears occasionally and does flamebreath which hits for 2k However if you start jumping away from him as he casts it you will avoid it since it has a narrow cone and a limited range.

Soloable. Holy paladin, 41/20/0, spelldamage gear (near +1k dmg/heal). His fire breath hit me for 2.2-2.5k so I ignore the fire aura, his melee was slightly under 1k each with devo aura up. I just kept devo up and turned on conc when I needed a big heal. Didn't use any FoL, pure HL. You don't need to heal often so I combined it with trinkets and Divine Illumination to keep mana usage down.

One Divine Shield used, no BoP, no LoH, two combat mana potions and one bandage (inside the bubble).

He's immune to HoJ, and he fears, but not very often. I pulled him near the Shartuul Transporter and had quite alot of space between the boars and the mountain wall. Got one of the shard-eating guys adding and focused fire on him, that's when I had to bubble up.

All in all, easy fight, took about 5-6 minutes (had a bit over 3 min left on my BoW). Mana is the only issue here, I didn't use holy shock on all cooldowns but I kept rank1 consecration up and used all judgements I could. JoW on him, SoR up/judged. Two mana potions and he is pie.

Wow, I just soloed him and found him incredibly easy. Found around 31,71 as other said and just followed in stealth cat form till clear of mobs. He feared me twice; once into nothing and 2nd time into mobs at Vortex, but he was already down to 4% health. I killed him and the three mobs with hardly a scratch.

Level 70 Night elf feral druid with 3/5 t4 and all epics.

I soloed him as a warlock pretty easy. Just tank him with your voidwalker and dot him up, health funnel a little bit.

At 60% I started to make some shadow bolts and he went down pretty fast.

I found this dragon very easy to solo. (warrior with pre-raiding gear)
Was he an elite in the past ?

Fight just took 1 minute or something. He used only 1 time fire and i had to fear some wandering nasty boars that joined in the fight.

As of patch 2.4, Hemathion is changed from elite to a non-elite rare mob. He still has the same abilities as before (flame breath, terrifying roar, (immune to fire?)) but anyone should be able to take him down on his own.

Incredibly easy to solo, soloed in less than 10 seconds before flamebreath, killed him as BM hunter, pet hit 4% of his HP each time. Pet had 91% HP after death.

Soloed with ease as a 70 prot warrior. Gained adds as I was feared, but ignored them, and kept on the dragon. Nothing spectacular. Kept up battle shout, and stacked sunder. walked away with 65% health left. Dropped Darkhide Tunic. Good for a shard. I have seen him twice in three days, during the last week.

I've been up on the Plateaus a lot, and this is the first time I saw him. Although you need a flying mount to get to the plateau, you do NOT need a flying mount to find him. He walks around on the ground.

Make a macro when you come to Blade's edge. Check the map on wowhead where to look for them.
The macro should be:

Found him wandering around the Vortex Pinnacle in Blade's Edge Mountains. Lvl 68 rare, looks kinda like Nefarian, didn't hit me all that hard but his fire dmg breath is pretty painful, lol. You need a flying mount to get to that place so bring some friends with ya!

He dropped Drakescale Breastplate of the Elder for us. (30ish stamina & int, 12 mana/5). I think he will always drop one of the blues, but the suffix (e.g. of the Whale, of Nature's wrath) can be anything.
He does an ae fear for which fear ward is kinda handy, or youll end up with adds.

tried kiting 4 times all same result, each time I got him to Ogri'la the peacekeepers would say "The peace of Ogri'la will be restored" and then I could no longer attack Hemathion, and then he would just disappear

Finally, I had him on me while doing dailies and had to run away. because with 3k health left I didn't even wanna try :P Anyways, I hate when the dailies take longer than they should. So he had to pay T_T

Solo'ed as a Shadow Priest, kited him a bit around the edge of Ogri'la. Just keep him dotted and dance with him. Make sure you lead tho (-; He sure knows how to tango.

took him today, spotted it doing the bombing run quest and quickly dropped a note in chat. 30 seconds later 4 other people had expressed an interest and were hovering over him so we PUGed up and took him down in about 15 seconds, it was a very easy fight, i'm sure he can be soloed by most classes. Drop was a blue cloth chest. I was dissapointed that he didn't drop an Apexis crystal though like the other dragons do, especially considering he is rare. Having said that he is a considerably easier fight than the other summoned dragons.

just killed him with a nice prot pala, me being rogue. we fought him at the 29.43 area, just south of the northern demon camp. no adds, jsut alot of fear spam. too bad he dropped the leather chest piece of the boar. was a kinda easy fight, u wont need healer if the tank is skilled.

For all classes that can kite, this is a soloable boss. :)

Kite the Dragon to the Shatari Skyguard camp.
When it fear, it will fear the guards aswell, which will do they will attack him and take the agro. :)
then its just to help the guards taking him down and voila.
you get loot and its soloed. :D

he resets pretty easily, be warned. I just tried to solo him a couple times, and when he was at like 50%, he reset both times, I guess because I kited him too far.

also, he runs at about 110% walking speed, so you've gotta have Apexis Eminations buff (or aspect of the cheetah) to be able to kite him or you'll be too slow.

Soloed with a full-Glad Hunter

Heal pet going in and stay at full range.
Pet went down to 75% health at the most
and I was full health 50% mana at the end.

I was buffed with Major Agility/Warp Burgers
but he was cake and never hit me once. Feared
pet but was able to misdirect so he chased the
pet. My advice is to use MD *after* he fears pet
and continue to use SS/AS rotation until he gets
low then hit with Aimed Shot, etc.

im a combat dagger rogue with most os my gear from kara and some badge/crafted and the MgT trinket. saw him wandering around so i just dismounted my roflocopter and trew on evasion/adrenalin rush/bloodlust and blade flurry, killed him with 2k life to spare and it was easy, so dont say that rogues cant solo him.. btw i got the Drakescale Hauberk with 60agi

saw him during dailies and thought I'd give it a try to see how much backup i needed... i pwnt this nub rare in just 5 hits, charge white hit, MS, heroic, white hit heroic.

drakeweave raiment of the invoker:

thought it would be worth the 10 seconds of effort i put it, but my lvl 60 guild healer didn't even want it...

the boars running around this zone have 2x the hp, 2x the armor, and probly 3x the dps. if you spot this thing just slay it, don't call for guildies to help. If it kills you, i'd recomend uninstalling Wow instantly!

Solo'd him last night with my tankadin. Drakescale Breastplate of the Elder and 4 Apexis Shards dropped. Just watch out for the boars and the demon pats when you plan on attacking Hemathion.

He has about 12.5k hitpoints, easy solo for any reasonably geared 70 DPS/Tank class. healers may have issues, your mileage may vary.

Fairly easily soloed as a level 70 fury warrior, which I was surprised at, since my gear isn't all that great and I usually get owned by any elites 65+. Reading some of the older comments, this guy probably got nerfed in one of the patches. Dropped Drakescale Breastplate of Arcane Protection. I eventually did die, however, because he brought my health down and his Fear made me aggro some boars.

Soloed a couple of days ago - I'm a shadow priest. Was very easy. Fear was an issue but was lucky not to get pushed into any surrounding mobs. Didn't kite/dance or anything, just 'tanked' him. Easier than the boars and flayers in the area!

They nerfed. Not sure when but they did. Probably to motivate people to still seek him out for a chance at a bargain basement Shadow resist item for BT. Although Chest is usually one of your top items so its typically the last thing to sacrifice to a pure resist item.

he is easily soloable, from the point of a BM hunter. just watch out for his fear effect. not sure if hes a 24 or 48 hour spawn but i have killed him twice 48 hrs apart, so maybe the latter.

I used my special techniques and used certain cliffs to kite him down to Slyvanaar. Then I basically kited him around town and killed him. Dropped Drakeweave Rainment of the Owl. It took me 15 deaths but I did it!

He is kiteable, just bring him to the new Sha'tari Skyguard Outpost, have him aoe fear you (which also hits the Skyguards) and they start attacking. Dropped..

I took him with an apexis flayer at the same time. Trivial fight really - garrotte, blade flurry and evasion to start. Got feared once, then took him down fast. The flayer stayed up longer.

Btw, just me there - the duo was the flayer and the rare.

Easy to solo as a hunter... just kited it from it's southern spawn through ogri'la and into the Skyguard Outpost where there are many guards huddled up. It feared them all and a min later it's dead. Just had to keep my pet aggroed on it and have it healed.

His icon showed 95k hp so I was a bit concerned.

Popped regrowth, cat stealth, pounce - doesn't stun him. When bear, mangled and suddenly he was down 20k hp..... right. Well needless to say he probably has max 15k hp and it's an easy fight.

Note that he does a nightbane-style bellow (fear) at the same time as fire breath, so clear a bit of an area if you don't think you can handle adds at the same time.

Dropped a Drakescale Breastplate of Agility (1106 armor, +60agil level 68 plate chest), BoE.

Two well geared friends, we dropped him today. VERY LONG FIGHT!

alestraza alliance side:

Me (70 feral druid, dps gear)
Romulan (70 holy priest)

This is a BOSS, NOT YOUR COMMON RARE! he has 93,000 hp, and he'll fear the tank, and repeat at a predefined interval and turn around an whack other people. Make sure you have a bear druid (me) that can establish and maintain a lot of aggro very quickly, or just a very very very good warrior.

Okay, he fears the tank, he turns around and whacks on the other people in the party, or who ever is next in the threat list. If you can keep piling on the aggro, the boss will turn around and return to the tank when the fear is up automatically. Do as much damage as you can while he's on you, between fears.

Once you get the hang of the fight you can figure out at what interval he repeats the fear and adjust your skills accordingly.

it took us about 30 minutes, but we got him down.

he patrols around the southern part of the crystline section of blades edge mountains in a set patrol path. If you go to one side, either 32,70 by the east side, or 25,70 by the west side, just above the 'black part' on the map, there's a section where there's a large open spot with no mobs and a "egg" in the center for something i dunno what. If you pull him back here, there's tons of room to do the fight and run around as you're feared etc, this is what we did, worked great.

Killed him easily as a 70 hunter. Found him wandering around a little south of Ogri'la. I just flew down and cleared one boar for a place for me to stand and just sent my pet in. He feared my pet once, which aggroed a boar. Didn't really make a difference, though. Killed him in about 1 minute, maybe less. And besides that one fear, he did nothing else. When I fought him on 4/18/2008, he only had 13065 HP as reported by Mobinfo2. He was easier to kill than those boars that roam the zone.

Team:
70 Feral Druid (Tank) + 70 Holy Priest (Healer); both in mostly Kara gear.

As other people have said, he fears constantly. You'll need to fight him in an area cleared of mobs (one of the dragon's perches is suggested). A few notes:
-Have your healer stay near him so they get feared too. This will prevent him from ganking the healer during a fear.
-Keep him faced away from the rest of the group when possible, so flame breath only hits you.

He hits for approximately 500 on a tank with 72% damage reduction (so not even 1k on plate) and has a slow attack speed (around 3 seconds between attacks). In short, it's the flame breath that hurts.

Dropped: Drakescale Breastplate of Healing
Plate / 1106 armor / +132 healing

Also, one last detail: if he engages in combat with the Ogri'la guards, he will reset. In short, no kiting him to Ogri'la. =(
