So, according to an old mmo-champ post, "Item - Icecrown 25 Emblem Healer Trinket - Your spell casts have a chance to grant 100 mana per 5 sec for until cancelled", does this mean that the trinket was buffed, or that with the higher mp5 now it will have a 45 ICD? The latter making it worse than heroic Solace.

Assuming 1 ppm, the proc works out to 76 mp5 (304 * 3 / 12)

Compared to the 245 Solace of the defeated, even though this is 19 ilvl's higher, it gives
+29 spell power
-52 mp/5

This is arguably better now since the value of mana regen is much less than SP for most fights.

Is it just me or does this trinket seem kind of underbudget? Perhaps they purposely itemized it badly because it's a badge item, but the spellpower + regen increase seems rather low for the amount of ilevels this trinket has over other similar trinkets.

45sec internal CD, like similar trinkets, and with druids 1 sec gcd instead of 1.5sec cd. It would proc every 55sec on average. Thats ~1.1 ppm, but since its on spellcast, not spellheal. And most likely a drood wont spam 10 spellcasts within those 10sec after the internal CD is up. So lets say 1ppm.

304*3=912mana per 60sec=76mp5

In a 1min 30sec fight, this will proc at the start of the fight, and again after internal CD is up.
912*2mana per 90sec ~= 101mp5

In a 2min 30sec fight, this will proc at the start of the fight, and again after internal CD is up, and once more.
912*3mana per 150sec ~= 91mp5

In a 3min 30sec fight, this will proc at the start of the fight, and again after internal CD is up, and twice more.
912*4mana per 210sec ~= 87mp5

..well, you get the point. The faster the fight, the better mp5 this gives.
~76-87mp5 on bossfights
~76-101mp5 on trash

So, let me ask you this; When do you need mp5 the most? ;)
I need it on bossfights, therefore 76mp5 would be the right number to evaluate this trinket from.

..and about 1sec gcd, here is why:

Tested with Gift of the Earthmother and Celestial Focus 12/12-09(3.3 patch) and a macro:
/cast Thorns
/script local start, duration, enable = GetActionCooldown(4);DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(duration);

623 haste rating = 1.001sec GCD on Lifebloom, and 1.112sec GCD on the rest.
633 haste rating = 1sec GCD on Lifebloom, and 1.109sec GCD on the rest.
1053 haste rating = 1.002sec GCD on all spells(except lifebloom ofc).
1058 haste rating = 1sec GCD on all spells.
So, haste cap on all spells is 1053-1058, but on lifebloom its 623-633 with Gift of the Earthmother and Celestial Focus

But with Wrath of Air Totem(5%) + Improved Moonkin Form/Swift Retribution(3%) the cap will be lower.
So haste is good for a druid, most casts is instant, so we want to get gcd down. Thats why I did the numbers with 1sec gcd, since thats what most druids try to achieve.
Haste "buffs" for a druid in raids: Gift of the Earthmother(10%) + Celestial Focus(3%) + Wrath of Air Totem(5%) + Improved Moonkin Form/Swift Retribution(3%)

1% haste=32.79 haste rating

Cycle:
10 Seconds to Proc (Averaging as it could proc before even if they don't cast 10 spells in a row: it doesn't proc after 10 spellcasts, it has a 10% CHANCE to proc)
15 Seconds the trinket is active, returning 912 mana
30 Seconds the trinket is inactive

55 Seconds: 912 mana returned /11 = 83 MP5 (in bursts, of course)

That is the worst possible MP5 this trinket could have.

But, it depends on chance really.

Let's use this "cycle" above on a 5 minute (300 second) boss fight.

5 "Cycles" is 275 Seconds with 4560 mana returned, or 83 MP5, as said above.

If the fight ends here, it gives an average 83 MP5 depending on how lucky you are with the proc rate.

But, if the fight goes on for another 25 seconds, it returns another 912 mana, making its MP5 value rise to 91 for the entire fight.

If the fight is shorter, it could average even more MP5: up to a possible 110 on a 2 minute fight.

Which, is still pretty bad compared to Solace.

If you look at www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=45929 and https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=45466, it's clear same ilvl trinkets don't always have the same SP and nobody complains Sif's Remembrance is a worse trinket due to the lack of SP.

I guess maybe the issue of our calculation is to assume the 45s internal CD, but I remember the only limit of this "on proc mana regen" style is the 10% proc rate. If it does have no internal CD, the mana regen should be higher than we calculated and favor those haste-capped healers.

For those of you interested in real numbers, I "rented" the trinket last night on my resto shaman and evaluated the log results from a few 10-man boss fights. Note that uptime here means the percentage of the fight that I had the 304mp5 buff active.

Marrowgar: 23.4% uptime = 71 mp5
Deathwhisper: 19.8% uptime = 60 mp5
Saurfang: 22.1% uptime = 67 mp5
Festergut: 24.2% uptime = 74 mp5

Average: 68mp5

As you can guess from the fights and uptime numbers, more spammy healing fights will push the mp5 value of this trinket up slightly. All the above bosses were two-healed with a disc priest.

I suppose I should add a conclusion: this trinket has an ICD. for the fight with the highest uptime (Festergut), the PPM is 1.03, and if you look at my armory, you can see I have enough haste to be proccing this trinket nearly as often as it can.

Let's say that you get 68mp5 from this trinket.
Thats 816mana / minute... (68*(60/5))
If a boss encounter goes on for say 5 minutes thats 4080mana.

Holy light costs atleast 1000mana, that adds upp to 4 extra holy light casts per fight.

Is the trinket worth it? Is my math correct? Yes/no?

EDIT: This is ofc a speculation of relative data. Longer fights gives more mana, more procs gives more mana etc.

Best possible condition.

If it procs as soon as the fight starts and every time it is available again.
Based on a 5 Minute Boss fight (cause normally if your not done by then you go into berserk)

300 Seconds in 5 mins
270 seconds will be spent on the ICD (Internal Cool Down)
7 Procs

For every proc you get:
60.8 Mana Per Second for 15 seconds
304 MP5 for 15 Seconds
912 Overall Mana

1824 after 2 Procs
2736 after 3 Procs
3648 after 4 Procs
4560 after 5 Procs
5472 after 6 Procs

Overall after 7 Procs:
60.8 Mana Per Second for 105 Seconds
304 MP5 for 105 Seconds
6384 Overall Mana

Overall for a 5 Minute Fight (Remember this is the best possible Results and I doubt anyone would get these or has gotten these)

21.28 Mana Per Second
106.4 MP5

Most people are getting 65 - 80 MP5 average.

means I could use it for my Resto, and Ele spec. (though Ele hardly have a mana issue, the SP on this is huge, for someone who don't raid every night...)

No-one seems to mention this trinkets possible use for pvp? Is the mp5 buff dispellable? I am wondering if this is better than the Battlemaster's Ruination trinket. Ok, you don't have a 3 minute healthstone option with it, but you get a lot of mana, which will be useful in the mana wars for 2's and 3's in arena, and a little more spellpower. What do other people think?

Here's a thought.

This is good for arcane mages.

Ok, laugh it up.. go on... laugh more :)

I will now explain (in the hope that I will get a sensible correction)

Tradition has it that arcane mages don't have a mana problem... especially if they have 2*T10 and are doing a reactive rotation to maximize the haste buff (ie hit arcane missiles every time missile barrage procs to get the 2*T10 bonus to proc for the next 2 or 3 spells), and have the kind of iLvl 250+ mana pool that you can get with the gear around at the moment. My mage has 34k raid buffed at the moment. Which is quite a bit, but I have seen many mages with more than that.

But Incanter's Absorption now only works with our own shields. Mana shield is seen as too inefficient to be used to get the IA spell power buff, but if you have a mountain of mana... who gives a toss about efficiency?

Ok - so,
For an arcane mage, assuming 68 mp5 you will get 4K mana in a 5 minute fight.

IA returns 15% of damage shielded
Mana shield (untalented) returns 2666 of damage absorbed from 4k of mana
0.15 * 2666 = 400
400 /4 = 100

Why /4?

because we get 400 sp from this trinket for 10 seconds over all. On use trinkets proc for 20 seconds every 2 minutes -or twice in a 5 min fight, so make 10s = 20s and spread it out twice..

So with a bit of squinting and a bit of a push this has a proc of +100 sp for 20 secs every 2 minutes.

It's not quite equivalent to that, to be honest, because you are not going to be able to choose to do it when you want, but on the other hand you can pop your manashield and not die, which is prime objective number 1, and then wack the crap out of whatever boss you are fighting, which is good.

Also if you are running out of mana you could just keep the mana and use it for spells and stuff...

Anyway, loads of fights have aoe damage, healers have trouble healing everyone, lightening the load on the healers is good, doing big numbers is good...

I think that this trinket is all win.
