Horde version of https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=43959. Drops in both heroic (25) and normal (10ppl) mode. Has room for 2 passengers, does not take fall damage at all. Does not carry vendors. Most of speed increasing effects do not affect mammoth.

To summarize the information in a slightly more organized form, from Tourlip's previous comment and comments on the Alliance version of this mount :

This mount can drop from both 10 or 25 man Vault.
Added : This can drop from both Emalon and Archavon, and can drop from both in the same run.
This mount is a 2 passenger mount.
This mount does not have vendors.
You cannot eject passengers without desummoning.
The drop rate for this mount has been increased. (confirmed on 02/20/09)
It is very often ninja'ed by master looters.

Patch 3.1 eliminated 'vehicle mechanics' from player mounts and the following is no longer true, but kept here for posterity
This mount does not take falling damage. (will not need to be resummoned)
This mount is not considered a mount for mount speed increasing effects. (such as Crusader Aura or On a Pale Horse)
This mount is considered a party member for movement speed increasing effects. (such as Aspect of the Pack or Unholy Aura)
You can mount on some bugged mounts while riding (such as dk mount, blizzard bear)

I recently got this mount as well. The first and only time I have seen it drop.

Some additional things to note:
-The mount has an attack bar, and is treated like a pet. The damage done however is very small
-The mount has its own health bar (like the motorcycle) with 8982 hp
-Mounting just before a dual can cause the dual to bug out so that you can never die. I cannot confirm if this work in a bg.

Hey I seen it drop in 10 man today. I'll upload a screen shot of the loot when i have more time. It's an awesome mount. Sadly i did not win it. But it did not get ninja'd by ML since it was a guild run and we all rolled on it fairly.

I just won this from a 25 man a few minutes ago. So far its the first one i have ever seen drop. but i had to go thru an INTENNNSSE rolling battle before i got it. First i rolled a 99 and then another guy rolled 99 so we both had to reroll. He rolled first and rolled a 17 and i rolled and got 18 XD! I was so happy i almost wet myself :P

Just an added note. After fiddling around with it ive confirmed that it can receive speed buffs such as AotP and you do not receive fall damage... at all! i used to wonder why these kinds of mounts were so expensive to buy in gold but now i can see why XD

dropped tonight (Tuesday, March 24 @ 10:30 server time) in our 25-man Archavon raid. As tempting as it was, being the PUG raid leader, I reluctantly gave into the evil part of my brain that wants to do nice things for complete strangers and I opened it up for rolls. The ultra semi-rare mount ultimately went to Voltanis.

While we are outside the instance taking screenshots, I learned that the also dropped for a 10-man group that was in there at the same time. WTF?

I've run Archavon a combined 42 times on my two toons, never to see it drop. Then it drops for two separate groups? Simultaneously.

So this begs the question, did they buff the drop rate today or was this just an incredible coincidence?

I all so noticed in warsong gultch the guy riding it dident get dismounted when he went it flag room and stuff so if its a glitch or not its good for getting in there fast and ya when it droped the leader ninja looted =[

This item where bugged when i tryed to give it away since i was ML, it said "player not found" to all i raid so if it does that to you, you might get judget as a ninja? :S cuz no 1 belive it

Oddly enough, you can still move around on it when the player is CCd. I was running around in Dustwallow when a 80 hunter hit me with a Wyvern Sting. I kept moving, even though my character was asleep from the debuff. Odd.

Ok, there is some quite interesting information allready posted about the mammoth on this page, but I got my hands on one of thes my self and would like to post additional information I have found, this information is in addition to that which Lucid has allready said:

The mount has it's own health at around 9k
The mount can be granted buffs from other players, such as stamina buff, Kings etc. But it is immpossible to buff your own mount unfortunatly.
It can also be buffed with levitate or path of frost in order to walk across water
Mounted players, if targeted and attacked can still become dazed and be dismounted, and have to exit combat in order to remount up onto the mammoth.
It is technically possible to dismount people onboard without desummoning, just by leaving the party or removing them from party if your leader
Running into an instance with someone mounted should normally bring them in with you. Also if your side step slowly to the entrance door, it is possible to push them inside without you. :-p
Sometimes, when running indoors with mount, to jump off a cliff and the mount will spawn at top of cliff and demount you there for being inside.
The is an odd bug sometimes for me when mounting that the mammoth turns to the side strangley.
It is possible to interact with certain objects in WoW but strangly I am unable to reach my own lightwell from the drivers seat.
The feast objects are interesting, as it possible to begin eating the food whilst mounted and continue to do so whilst running around.
As probably mentioned, dancing whilst on mount is unstoppable until you dismount. Also valid for passengers
It is fully possible to interact with the other mounted players, so you can inspect each other and trade.
The mount brings around some interesting PvP problems and/or exploits. Movement imparing effects and stuns of sort only have a movement affect on your mammoth. If say a mage casts either slow or sheep on the rider, you can still move the mammoth around to get away. However Stuns on the mammoth will impare your movement but you are still able to dismount and then fight.

Note that two of these mounts can drop in the same instance now.

Lead and Master looted a VoA10 tonight. Both, Emalon and Archavon dropped the mount.

Guess you can imagine what raidchat looked like. =)

there, now that we are off the subject, i do ahve some very useful information for u guys

i was talking to some guildies about this, and they said the mount is no longer targetable by other players, not even in parties, but it is still a multi-passender mount that can carry 2 passengers

it is available to both alliance and horde

its does not carry vendors

it is obtainable from both archavon and emalon, and theres is actually a better chance of it dropping from emalon, and yes, it can drop from both in the same run, but is highly unlikely

it drops in both 25 man and 10 man, no difference in the drop rate between the two

this mount no longer takes falling damage since patch 3.1

this mount is very, very often stolen by master looters (this may sound a little stupid, but if ur pugging 10 or 25 man VoA, i would suggest not having a master looter, just all need on the mount if it drops, and pass on all the other loot and /roll for it after the mount is awarded to the winner, this way, there is no way it can be stolen by a ninja, cause this way, u all have an even chance, the mount must be rolled for by everybody and it cant just be looted like as if u were looted a ghoul in icecrown, it has to be a fair, there it no possible chance of it being ninja'd, but make sure u rolled and everybody else rolled before u did), but if ur doing this with guildies, or good friends, then it would prolly be ok to use a master looter, but like i said, pugging, u should NOT use a master looter

and one more thing, this is the ONLY PvP mount that can carry passengers, so if ur looking to get one like this, well, this is it

but the weird thing is, u dont even have to go to WG battles to get this or the regular black war mammoth, all u got to do to get the grand black war mammoth, is go through VoA, like a million times, lol

and to get the regular black war mammoth, u just got to do some heroics while ur faction owns WG, collect up to 300 stone keeper shards, and go buy it

i gave up on trying to get the grand black war mammoth, so i just got the regular black war mammoth, even though the regular black war mammoth does not carry passengers, it does the job, still a very nice mount, and it doesnt take that long to get if u actually go to WG and do the dailies (weeklies now =P)

thats all of the info i got for u guys, but if there is more, i will update as i find out

That seems like it would be a once in a life time thing, im sure, but one thing i gotta ask is, if raid chat was crazy, what the heck did trade chat look like? lol

ive only seen this drop once in a 10 man VoA off of archavon (before patch 3.0 came out)

i rolled an 87, and from the look of the rest of the rolls, i thought maybe i would win, but then i got beat by a 96

now u see, a lot of people would be mad if that happened to them, i wasnt really mad at all, i already had the regular black war mammoth anyways

i admit, it would have been nice to have a multi passenger mount to escort some people around on, but i was already saving up for the mechano hog anyways

ooh, and i do have some good info for u guys

-This drops from both Archavon and Emalon

well, thats all the tips i have for u guys, more will be added as i obtain more information on this mount

Silly question really but I read that snares can be put on the mount such as slow so I was wondering if Sheep or Hex can be used on it. Reason I wonder is because I personally for giggles fight the Troll mounted raptors in Zul'drak because it's funny to sheep the raptor and watch the troll ride in a circle on the sheep. So basically can this mount be made a sheep and if so will the riders then be stuck riding the sheep?

I just got this today! I was doing my usual VoA for the week with a 25 man PUG. After downing Emalon a few people left and we killed Arch with 21 people and this mount dropped.

I have been doing VoA every week since early December, and had never seen this mount drop before. I asked my guild and I was told it was less than a 1% drop rate from either boss in VoA. I quickly did the math and realized that the odds of me seeing this mount again were about 6 months.

I rolled but was only 5th highest, so I quickly yelled in raid that I'd buy it. When the winner asked for how much I was offering, I quickly blurted out the highest amount I was willing to pay - 4000g. He agreed and the loot master gave it to me! ^.^

Over half the raid whispered me and told me I was crazy, but I figure that 4% chance of getting something, and only having the chance of rolling on it once every 6 months, makes it worth 4k :)

Going for Mountain o' Mounts achievement, 72/100 so far :)

Had one drop the other day. I don't see why ML would ninja these things. I was ML and just gave it to the highest roll, everyone wants it as bad you. So let other people get a chance to roll.

Well, i won it in 11.2.2009 in 10man.rolled 48as highest from 10 ppl as alt char./lol/ but can say this mount is really useless cuz you cant enter almost nothing on it. atleast as Tauren. Hes stucked in entrance to Dalaran Severs..stucked in Dalaran central place way to Violet Hold and stucked way to all zeppelin towers aswell. So this mount is really good only use for travel with 2 ppl afking way to Zul Gurub from Grom Gol or boosting friend way to some lowbies instance or whatewer like this. Yes is really better they move it onto Feats of strenght archievs cuz only patience and stranghtfull ppl can ride this crazy elephant more then once

They recently up the drop rate of this? Ever since Patch 3.2, i've been seeing alot more of these. In the past 2 days, i've seen at least 7 people riding them on my server, and i'm on a low population server.

can anyone confirm if this still gives a feat of strength for looting/using it? I got mine when it was a pvp achievement, before it got moved to the feat of strength but last night in vault 10, it dropped again and I won the roll, I passed it to a friend and he didn't get any achieve for it. He used it and was riding around on it, but still doesn't have a feat of strength for it.

Fortunately on my second 25 VOA (9/15/09) this mount dropped everyone in grp said watch it get ninja'd i personally did not care, but the loot master rolled 1-25 and got a 16 i was 16 in raid and recieved loot. I immediately recieved offers of 2-3k but was not interested needless to say i had 20+ grp members #$%^ed at me but personally i thought that was the fairest way i've seen a mount passed out.(mind you i have never grouped with the L/M nor know him in any way) but it is a baddass mount, i have heard of a mammoth being a siege vehicle please let me know if you know anything about this..

I won this, as raid leader. Now the trade channel on my server (Thaurissan) is full of spam accusing me of being a ninja because I used xloot to assign the loot to a random person. *sigh* life is unfair.

Grand Black War Mammoth now Allows two passengers to board that are in the same group as the driver.

Advice for any master looters handling this item or anything similarly rare in a pug.

Letting everyone roll instead of raid rolling is a good way to make sure no one has any accusations of foul play. If you want to raid roll, it's a good idea to announce in raid chat in advance which number you are yourself. Otherwise if you do win the fair roll, people will accuse you of being a ninja even if you really did roll your own number.

What I really don't get is, why would you ninja this? There are other multi-passenger mammoths out there. If you ninja this, the people in the group are just going to tell everybody on the server, report you, and possibly force you to change servers and change your name. And even after you do that, the people on your new server might be able to put the pieces together, and figure out that they have never seen you before, and they probably would ask you how you got that if you've never won it on that server. So they could likely figure out that you ninjaed it, switched servers, and changed your name. So all in all, is it really worth ninjaing? No, not really.

Besides, putting it in perspective -Traveler's Tundra Mammoth costs 16,000g with faction discount, and Grand Ice Mammoth costs 8000g.

Sure but Tundra has vendors. Grand ice is useless, but indeed costs much less gold. To be honest I think 20K is way too much for what it offers, both in terms of utility and "coolness" (similar to other mammos walking around in Dalaran I mean).

If you spent 20K for this, how much would you spend for Ashes of Al'ar? I'd say at least 40K.

I've heard about the mammoth drop in VoA, but I didn't think twice that I would win this loot. So I did my WG weekly and after that did voa10. Lukily was on Toravon (i think this is the new boss), and once the boss was down, the mammoth dropped XD. I rolled a 57, and I'm like great, i'm sure someone else will beat me but luckily no one in the raid rolled higher than me. So I won the loot.

This was before reading this comments, but I didn't know some ML would ninja this mount. Luckily, my ML did not ninja my loot. So I thank my ML for being a good sportmanship.
