How fast is this going to get nerfed? If it stacks additively, have 4 Paladins pop their bubbles at once. Immune raid for 12 seconds. With 3 it'll still be 90%.

I think this is designed for raid phases like Maggy(Or the first boss in BT), where whole the raid take XX damage. Another nice WoTLK pally improve, to make their spells more unique, like that judgement becomes more useful as holy. (So we get more than just FoL and HL :), and yes, I know we have the standard bubble and the blessing of protection :P)

This should work VERY well with the new Divine Protection. Totally taking a stab in the dark, prot paladins will probably have around 28k health at lvl 80. So they can 'absorb' up to 186k raid-damage at once without out-right dying (more like 200k if the 6% from improved righteous fury is added in too). That's over 7k per person in a 25-man.

Edit: And now that it no longer works with Divine Protection....nevermind!

With the new change to Divine Shield, this talent looks very powerful. Not only does your paladin tank now have a 50% shield wall (and with Ardent Defender, even less) but he can also reduce the damage for the raid and party by absorbing it into himself.
It should give your healers a great time to cool off and bring the raid back into focus if you need to hit your mini bubble wall.

Ok, so now the question for Holy Pallies:

Do we take this in a 51/20 build?

Or do we go down the Ret tree for 5% crit and possibly https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=53503 instead of Beacon?

The curent HoL crit spam might indicate the latter, but who knows what Wrath will bring and what kind of overall effectiveness Beacon of Light will have.

This seems like a very situational talent.
Normally, a tanking paladin will want to avoid using divine shield for obvious reasons (aggro loss).

So you will most likely get the most use of this this when:

1. You are not actively tanking, such as on a raid-encounter that only requires a single tank.
2. An encounter that requires a tanking rotation, wich you can trigger by hitting Divine Shield and reducing damage to the new tank in the process.
3. When doing PvP

I guess we will have to see what upcoming encounters look like to truly judge the usefulness of this talent.

Oddly, this is NOT a tanking talent. As a prot paladin, this would temporarily wipe aggro from a boss which is something that CANNOT happen, lol.

I would only use this as a holy paladin. I would do a 51/17/3 spec to take advantage of the damage soaking ability. This would be good for a situation such as BT's Naj when the shield is popped and the entire raid takes damage. 30% less damage right when it pops and for the following 12 seconds.

Mind you, this is an EXTRA mini-Shield Wall ability as well, since the MT at the time will take 30% less damage and can save their OH &*!@ button for later. This would be great for the paladin healer if he's low on mana to pop it and conserve a bit if there isn't a ton of raid damage to be had.

What's nice is that this talent can be used every 5 minutes. Here's the spec I would use as a raiding holy paladin (if you had a prot paladin in the group who might already have this, if you don't, I'd put the 3 pts from might into devo aura and switch the concentration pt into lay on hands):

Pop bubble, Hand of Sacrifice on tank, may be add that new Sacred Shield. Almost like a pain suppression with longer duration.

Now, if they bumped it down a tier, it would be quite attractive, but if you have to practically waste 5 or 10 points just to get to it, it's not worth it.

Very situational talent for tanks. Consider this for 5-mans.

1. Prot pally in a 5 - man group. Healer out of mana and tank's HP is getting dangerously lower.

2. Pally pops up divine shield to self-heal. Aggro drops. Mob turns to other members of the party.

3. Pally absorbs 30% of all damage taken by group and helps the group survive longer while he heals.

4. Divine shield ends and pally gets back to tanking.

Too deep in the protection line for ret and holy specs to pick up without sacrifying other important talents. Hence designed for tankadins.

Would be useful to pick it up for end game instances.

In addition to the recent hotfixed nerfs for paladins, it appears that Divine Guardian is bugged in that the DG buff doesn't fade when Divine Shield fades, which leads to the paladin continuing to take damage and eventually dying from it.

My question is, can the DG buff be removed by right-clicking on the icon, or is that bugged as well?

Just tested the talent... its AWESOME lol, at 15% alone you see a huge diff in the damage the party takes, i will deff keep this talent
Also, it is best in raids WITH another holy paly who has speced into the ret tree as his secondary to give the crit buff to everyone, Offensive buffs from ret, Defensive buffs from Prot... makes magic man lol
But these talent is to be used when whole raid or most is being dpsed simultaniously, best effects that way, i use Divine Protection when ever i catch melee aggro other wize to save it.

Anyone test if this stacks with another paladin with the talent? - I know this sounds a little redonkulous but 2 paladins popping bubble in a raid at the same time and throwing sacrifice on 2 people could be really nice - highly unlikely that it would EVER come down to raid composition to actually have it, but it might be a nice trick in 5v5 as well.

This talent is used beautifuly in OS25 3D (three drakes) as all are holy palys use this when are tank uses up all his CDs on Sarths Flame breath, truely awesome as it also gives all healers a quick mana break in fights .

Please clarify... does this increase the duration of the Sacred Shield to 12sec (since its only active for 6sec) and the total duration for 1min? And also, does Sacred Shield now scale w/ SP provided by the Ret Pally's talent Sheath of Light?

does it means Divine Sacrifice will be redirect 40% (or 33% (30%+10% or 30*1.1)?) damage within 33 yards (or still 30?) up to a maximum of 160% (or 165% (150%+10% or 150*1.1)?) of the Paladin's health, last 11 sec. (or still 10?)?

Currently, as of patch 3.2.2 the sacred shield will be overwritten by any other sacred shield. I did notice this becasue we hade 3 holy paladins in our VoA 25 raid. I got this talent and the other paladin had a 30 sec shield wich would say that (s)he didn't have this talent. I got in touch with a GM and they would investigate it.

I did some testing and this is how it's calculated:
Without 2/2 Divine Guardian Sacred Shield's strength is equal to 500 + 75% of your spell power.

With 2/2 Divine Guardian Sacred Shield's strength is equal to 600 + 90% of your spell power.

+/-1 due to rounding some values up or down.

The beauty of this talent is not the sacred shield buff, it is the raid wide 20% reduction to damage.

This is absolutely AMAZING

In a 10man setting the potential of this talent starts to show, half your raid taking 50% less damage, the other half taking 20% less damage, yes please.

In a 25man setting this is like your raids "oh %^&*" button. It can mitigate ridiculous amounts of damage.

It can also be used as a personal tank cooldown for paladins.

What this does is casts Divine Sacrifice and then in half a second cancels Divine Sacrifice leaving Divine Guardian active giving you and the raid 20% damage reduction without redirecting any damage to you.

I hope I have shed some light on why this talent is so great because I see alot of paladins not spec'd for it and I think its mainly because they don't understand how great that it can be.

All in all this is a pretty amazing talent that all raiding Holy and Protection paladins should spec for.
