An instant cast flamestrike? Sounds good to me. This will add quite a bit of dps considering you can spend your next 3 seconds casting another spell.

Not exactly a talent worth being so deep in the tree . Flamestrike has a big mana cost making this talent extremly situational

As some others here have pointed out, flamestrike costs a lot of mana, but you have to remember there's no cooldown, more damage than the other two spells (when considering the periodical damage after the initial direct damage) and it can be cast at range.

While it will cost a lot of mana and isn't as mana efficient in terms of mana vs damage, some instant flame strikes (two per AoE pull: one from blast wave, another one from dragon's breath) to take down the mobs faster will lower the chance you'll die.

This spell is extremly dangerous in world pvp. You will stack so much instant spells that the burst will make fire mages extremly dangerous.

trip combustion and living bomb, fireblast, dragonbreath, flamestrike, blastwave, flamestrike, Arcane Explosion and if you got your 2 crits in a row you got an insta pyro.

The Hot Streak instant pyro only procs off of Fireball, Scorch and Fireblast crits, unfortunately, and only if they occur on consecutive spellcasts. However, given that we fire mages now have world of flames to bring our -base- crit rate with Flamestrike/Blast Wave/Dragon's Breath above 40% (42% in my case, mileage may vary)... you'll want to see what this talent can do before you write it off - including in pvp, especially battlegrounds.

Rank 1 says it has a 50% chance. Is that 50% per cast (provided that it deals damage to at least one target) or 50% per damaged target (stacking multiplicatively)?

I strongly recommend 2/2 Firestarter. It's my favorite fire talent. Here's why:
You can easily AOE elites to death in a few seconds with the proper rotation of spells.

Flamestrike + Dragon's breath + Flamestrike* + Blastwave + Arcane Explosion til' snare fades + CoC + Flamestrike + Arcane Explosion til' snare fades, Nova.

And this isn't Thottbot theorycrafting. I've done this countless times. Great fun.

*Try to distance yourself a bit before breaking the Dragon's Breath with the instant-flamestrike, or suffer 10-12 hits in 1 second.)

An interesting fact is that this talent works in a way that makes each hit have either a 50% or 100% proc chance, depending on how many points you put into it.

This means that with only 1/2 talent points put into this talent it will still give you a 75% chance to proc if you hit 2 enemies; ~88% chance if you hit 3 enemies and so on.

If you're using this for PvE purposes or AoE I'd recomend saving a talent point by just putting 1/2 in firestarter.

Trouble Starter.

50/100% chance when stunned that the attacker will get teleported to a tunnel and get burned alive slowly while the tunnel moves in circles. 4 second Cooldown.

Still, it would be fair if this talent could reduce the mana cost by 100%.

My experiences with this spell wern't so great as these drawbacks occured:

1) Flamestrike breaks the blind effect of DB
2) Blast wave knocks back enemies far enough so that flame strike radius doesn't cover the group of enemies anymore

This talent is also good vs rogues that will vanish after your Blast Wave (if they haven't any dot or with cloak of shadows if he is nub^^), cause you can immediately break his stealth with instant Flamestrike, just use it bit above, where rogue is vanish.
Oh, one edit: if he CoS and then vanished, don't use your flamestrike for nothing cause he mostly will resist it.

Pop Dragon's Breath in a mob of allies in a BG, drop a Flamestrike.
THEN
Blow out a Blastwave, sending them fools off the edge to their death, those who survive...? Get a Flamestrike to send them on their way.

mostly a pvp talent, though you also wouldn't have this anyways if you also didn't have Dragon's Breath, which is also more of a pvp talent... though i guess DB+Firestarter for pve is not bad for more AoE orientated specs, just remember to use a lower rank on the 2nd flame strike in order to allow the dots to stack

also, its a free-instant flamestrike, which also makes it worth casting single target too, particularly in pvp... makes fighting rogues surprisingly easy if you are quick to place them, provided you abuse the place you dropped your flame strike to prevent stealth

The AoE damage you can do with this talent is crazy. Even paladins will have serious trouble to hold threat against you:

Living Bomb > Blast Wave > Flamestrike r9 > Dragon's Breath > Flamestrike r8 > Blizzard >>> Living Bomb Explosion

- The moment the tank is pulling, run after him to get in range for Dragon's Breath / Blast Wave. While on the run you cast Living Bomb on one or two targets.
- Because it is important for most tanks to get hit a few times to generate some threat, i would choose Blast Wave over Dragons Breath for your first AoE.
- The best thing is, that now this rotation is very cheap on your mana, since both Flamestrikes are free of cost, and Dragon's Breath and Blast Wave are also low cost spells. The only mana intensive spell is Blizzard, and depending on your tank you will have to drop it anyway because of threat problems.
- Also depending on the pulling speed of your group you can go with:
Living Bomb > Dragon's Breath or Blast Wave > Flamestrike > Blizzard >>> Living Bomb Explosion
and alternate between DB and BW every pull.

This talent is good for pve aoeing, however I now skip it for pvp. While it's undoubtedly a decent bit of extra dps, the fuss of having to target it means for me it's more trouble than it's worth since theres too many things that can go wrong.

The biggest killer is not being able to target during a global cooldown, giving you very little time to target after a blast wave.

I've been playing about with this talent a bit more in pvp, it was too fun when it worked to give up on it. I tried binding flamestrike to a more accessible key and have been getting much better returns.

The targeting is still a real hassle, especially when you try to tag it on the end of another casted spell. Using the Dragon's Breath > Frostfire Bolt > Flamestrike combo, for example, you're left aiming your Frostfire Bolt with your keyboard while targeting the Flamestrike, which can cause a fair few problems if Dragon's Breath breaks early. That said, it's free damage for a tree that has a fair few mana problems in pvp and the extra damage certainly helps the chain-crit combos fire mages pull to score kills.

Basically, if you're quick enough on the keyboard this can actually work out as a pretty good talent, however if you're not it'll end up doing more harm than good.
