you can pug HoL. I have had it in my list since level 76(HoL not the quest) I have went there without level 80s in the group and it pugs just fine.

The "Tongue cutting" is a reference when Odin cut Loki's Tongue.

Odin asked one of his Blacksmiths to create him 3 artifacts, and Loki said he could do better. Odin told him, if he failed his tongue would be cut.

The blacksmith created a golden cloack, a Spear with could be enlarged (Gungnir, Odin's Spea), and a hammer with a long - stretching rope, wich could be thrown away and will always come back (Thor's hammer later).

Loki failed, and his tongue was cut.

EDIT: In fact, when the blacksmith was forging the artifacts, Loki turned into a Bee and started stinging the blacksmith in his hands, head and even his eyes. But the blacksmith remained strong, and crafted it.

When Odin found out, he got MAD. And cut loki's tounge. Wich, grew again over some days.

Wikipedia has some of this correct but the Elder and Prose Eddas are the primary source. If you don't read Icelandic/Old Norse or have a translation of those works handy, I recommend to you Kevin Crossley-Holland's The Norse Myths.

The pertinent myth is Loki's theft of Sif's hair. Sif is Thor's wife. Loki shears off her golden hair while she sleeps next to Thor. Sif is horrified and Thor is furious. He demands that Loki replace the hair so Loki goes to the land of the Schwartzaelvar (Dark Elves) and enlists the finest craftsmen there, the sons of Ivaldi. They craft hair for Sif out of spun gold. Wishing to curry favor with the Aesir, the sons of Ivaldi also make a marvelous ship called Skidbladnir that can hold the whole host of Valhalla and yet can be folded up so small that it will fit in a pouch. Also they make a spear for Odin, Gungnir, that never misses its mark.

On his way back to Midgard, Loki, always eager to sow discord stopped at the forge of the dwarven mastercraftsman, Eitri and his brother Brokk. He challenged them to produce marvels as great as those of the sons of Ivaldi. Eitri accepted the challenge and Loki, immoderatly, wagered his own head against them.

Eitri and Brokk produce a boar with golden bristles, Gullinbursti, for Freyr. Odin recieves Draupnir, a golden ring from which 8 more rings like it drop every ninth night and, using iron instead of gold they produce a hammer, Mjollnir, for Thor. But while the work is underway, Loki, afraid of losing his bet, changes into a fly and stings Brokk while he works the bellows of the forge. Brokk endures the pain while making the first and second golden gifts but the fly, Loki, stings Brokk between his eyes while the iron is in the forge. Brokk stops the shoo away the fly and wipe the blood away as it trickles into his eyes which is why Mjollnir has a short handle.

Brokk asks the Aesir for judgment against Loki. After finding that the works of Eitri and Brokk exceed those of the sons of Ivaldi, Odin and the rest of the Aesir find in favor of Brokk. However, since the wager was for Loki's head alone, the judgment can't be collected. Removing Loki's head would entail cutting off some part of Loki's neck which was not part of the bargain. Brokk has to settle for being allowed to sew Loki's lips shut with a leather thong.

Loki races out of the hall and rips the thong from his lips. This becomes the point at which Loki's mean tricks turn pure evil and result in the Ragnarok, the end of the gods.

At no time is Loki's tongue cut out and, in fact, his ability to speak is essential to many of the tales that lead to the final battle and the Gotterdamerung.

You will note that the principles in the quest chain, Thorim and Loken, have their names derived from Thor and Loki. Indeed, a great many of the names in WOW, especially in Northrend, relate to Norse Myth.

Simply amazing quest chain. You finally get to put an end to Loken's wrath, but what ever will become of his brother? I personally would like to see a continuation of this quest chain, because this is my favorite quest chain in WoW (Wrathgate was a bit confusing and not as intriguing.). Plus the rewards are actually fairly decent.

Not all of these are mandatory, however you do need a certain level or Rep (friendly if I'm not mistaken) to access the next chain from King Jokkum. Anyway this is (and should be fairly accurate) the complete chain that leads to the HoL quests. *Note: The Refiner's Fire is started by an item picked up during the pervious quest and is needed to become neutral w/ the Sons or Hodir.

yes my reputation was the problem, i had missed out the slag metal q so thorim wasnt giving me any more q's and i was still hated by the son of hordir, tnx very much :)

King Jokkum in Dun Niffelem wants you to enter the Halls of Lightning and defeat Loken. You are then to return to King Jokkum with Loken's Tongue.

Description

One way or another, Loken shall fall.

If I have to rip him limb from limb myself, he soon shall pay for his wretched deeds.
