Make sure you have room in your inventory, otherwise you won't be able to pick up the flank, the bear will despawn & you'll have to start carving all over again.

Just for clearing this up.
You have to kill a bear, skin it with the provided knife, toss the flank at the crater in the back of the cave. Kill the mob, easy peasy. Soloed as lvl 77 priest.

Edit: Bugged for me at least. I grouped with someone and they got it after a few seconds. Blizzard, I hate you.

when using "Everfrost razor" against the dead bear into the cavern, you have a chance to drop the item required to summon; but the item dropped is not signed into your chat pannel, this is the problem. The item is named "Icemaw Bear Flank". Chek if you have it into your own bag, and use it at the center of cavern, into the crate. Jormuttar will becoming soon, kill him and the quest is ended.

You must be friendly with The Sons of Hodir to get this quest. Im not sure why i wasnt friendly yet but one of the dailies got me there.

After my 4th bear, says "You create: Icemaw Bear Flank." Checked my bags a hundred times it is not in there. So ive been carving more bears some give me the try again message and some dont but it wont create another so im gonna have to drop quest, still very buggy.

Chances are you won't have to kill any bears in the cave, you an use your knife on ones already killed, i got mine on the 8th try.

The meat needs to be sat in the pit looking area, with shard like rocks, i went around looking for an icy crater which doesn't exist, you should know it when u see it, stand in the middle and put it down, she will spawn almost on u and kill her ftw.

How to do quest:

4) After that place this https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=42733 near cooling pond in center of the cave.

6) Just kill it :)

Level 77 Feral druid, first try. Easy. Just go inside, and if your server is populated, start using it on all the bears that are dead. You DO NOT open a loot window for this. It just appears in your bags.

I recommend doing Forging a Head first anyways, if you are just starting Sons of Hodir rep. It leads to Mounting Hodir's Helm, which leads to a daily called Polishing the Helm. For the daily, you have go to the same cave where you kill Jormuttar, so it saves a bit of travel.

I've skinned about 50 or so bears and still no flank. I've checked my bags over and over again to see if there was any sign of me looting it prior but there was nothing. I've abandoned the quest 3 times now and still no flank.

I believe it is still bugged.

I wasn't able to get this quest until after I'd done the Hodir's Horn quest and Hot and Cold. I'm not sure which was the prerequisite because I turned them both in and saw that this was finally available.

Since I don't see the information in here yet -- this is actually the final pre-requisite to being able to complete Krolmir, Hammer of the Storms, specifically the part that allows you to discover the fate of Throim's Hammer, Krolmir. You must gain Friendly reputation with the Sons of Hodir for this, so spend a bit of time finishing quests there, and perhaps a daily or two to make friendly.

You have a Quest item in your bag a blue kinda thing and yuse that on a bear (who just died, or else you get a message that it's frozen) you then create a bear meat (this is all in the same cavern for the mother then it will appear kill it then it's done after this you can complete the Quest Krolmir, Hammer of Storms.

Skinning a bear will aggro every bear in a 40 yard radius. It makes sense because you are skinning their best friend.

I'm wondering how people were finding live bears. All I found were dead ones, which was aggravating, as I thought I needed to kill the bear myself to be able to skin it. I wandered around that damned cave for 20 minutes killing the jormungar there thinking they were killing the bears off. Then I tried using the Razor on an already-dead bear. Had the silly item in 3-4 bears, feeling stupid.

Hibernal Cavern – 55,64

Head inside and look for the bear corpses. Use the knife you were given until you find the meat your after. Can be a slight pain sometimes, drop rate isn't always the greatest. At the back you can easily spot the crater where you lay down the meat.

Just for a hopefully useful take for classic players. All the stuff about low/high drop rate and issues/etc below.

Most of the time, the bears in the cave won't have been touched for a while so you'll spend a while "skinning" bears and getting the "frozen hide" message.

What I think is MEANT to happen is the bears spawn and fight the worms, you kill one yourself or see one die, finish off the worm that killed it and "skin" it still warm.
What ACTUALLY happens is the bears pre-spawn already dead (except 1 just inside the door that I'm sure I've seen alive at some point).
Bear spawning dead is fine, they're still "fresh" and can be skinned.

So.. the trick is: run around skinning bears and getting the frozen hide message (which makes the bodies disappear). What you are after is a dead bear that's JUST spawned. This is will be easily skinned and it's meat easily used in the back to summon the worm. So, while it's a pain in the ass, skin a few and wait for the respawn is the "fix" for all the drop rate issues. It's 100% from a freshly spawned body.

Description

I have an opportunity that will help you to gain approval with my people, provided you prevail.

The jormungar are a nuisance best dealt with quickly. If given any quarter, they breed like hares and spread like fire.

They have appeared southwest of here, in the Hibernal Cavern. If their spawnmother is not slain soon, they will gain a foothold in our region.

She cannot refuse food. Take this knife and get the flank of a bear corpse from their cave. Place it near her crater and kill her as she feeds.
