There is definitely something wrong with this quest. Your enchanted tiki companion hits a 34k HP elite mob for maybe 900 a swing, when it hits, doesn't buff you and doesn't debuff the boss.

Either the quest text does not correctly identify itself as a group quest or there's some kind of bug where the tiki companion isn't helping out as much as it was intended to.

In short, unless you vastly outgear the projected 'average 75' player you're not going to complete this quest without some luck and all your cooldowns.

Was able to solo as a level 77 Shadowpriest; though he hits like a truck, he is vulnerable to stuns. I was also successfully able to fear him which made life so much easier.

Melee be aware that he throws up Retaliation when he is low so be prepared to cc or kite until it wears off.

If you wear plate, you can solo this at the "projected 75" quest description.

It was easy on both my Warrior and my Paladin. He doesn't hit very hard as long as you back out of or stun his AoE.

Just make sure you and him are on the same side of the gate when he dies. I just did it but as a hunter I was outside and he was inside. Had to go recollect the three items again.

Also tranq shot cleanses the frenzy.

Very difficult solo quest for an average blue/green geared 75.

Did it as an Enhance Shaman. Let the Tiki Warrior fight him for a while, then popped my Earth Elemental, let him fight for a while, then jumped in after Retaliation went down. Popped all my cooldowns - Rage, Bloodlust, and trinket. Finished him off, and I died at the same time. Had to Ankh.

Really, this shouldn't be "yellow" at 75.

Be ready to fight hard - and if you can heal at all, heal the Tiki and let him fight him for a while. (Don't heal too early or you'll aggro - the Tiki BARELY holds aggro!)

For any melee attempting this quest, rogues especially, do note that if he pops retaliation with the enrage (at like 40%) he'll counter every attack for 2-3k. It took me 3 attempts at him to finally kill him, stuns don't stop his retaliation so you have to pop evasion when he enrages.

Terc's post was right on, I tried to solo this as a Feral in cat form at level 76 and lost quickly the first time. The second time, I turned omen on and made sure not to draw aggro, turned off auto attack, and just hit him with mangle and DOT effects and made liberal use of cower. Occasionally I would pop out to heal. This made it way easier.

Be aware that once Warlord Zol'Maz dies his gate will fall shut again.
Make sure that either way you and the corpse are inside, or outside, but don't end up like me: behind a shut gate with the corpse inside his little temple, out of reach to loot.

You will have to kill all 3 NPC's (Wife, Son and Daughter) again to create a new Tiki to help you out and lure the Warlord from his cage to then kill him again...

Also be aware that if someone else tags him after you "summon" you won't be able to loot him and you will need to kill the three family members again.

After you collect the tiki, the sword, and the incantation, you can right click any of them in your inventory. You'll get a "Tiki Dervish Ceremony" which has the fire orb icon (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=39314) - use it while standing in front of the gate to get Warlord Zol'Maz good and steaming. Then he'll come out, and you'll have a difficult (depending on your level) fight on your hands.

It's important to be aware that anyone standing in front of the gate can tag him, and if you play a warlock as I do, it might be best to simply wait until everyone who's not in your party has gone away from the gate. Mine got ninja'ed by an alliance death knight, and if it wasn't for a nice horde guy who had collected the ritual as well, and invited me to my group, I would've had to do it all over again.

Edit: for the record: With patch 3.0.8 out, tagging a mob is no longer an issue for Warlocks as it was when this was originally posted :p

As a medium geared ret pally at 77, fight was pretty easy, but he still hits hard. He killed me just as I killed him(was a tad slow on the ol' bubble). The spirit healer is some distance from the spot you fight him, but you still have time to run back, ress and loot if your quick on your toes!

The Tiki Warrior will attack the opposite faction which in turn normally ends in you needing to go collect the tiki, the sword, and the incantation all over again.

I solo'd this as a level 78 arcane mage.. it was a pain in the butt. Took 2 attempts, I died the second time, but I got a last hit in and so did he.

As soon as he came out, ice block. Let the Tiki aggro until tiki is around 40% health.

PoM+trinket+Arcane Power Frostfire Bolt, spam instants, frost nova, blink, arcane blast, spam instants, wash-rinse-repeat.

Was difficult.. but not at all impossible.

i´ve done it solo with my holypriest, all u have to do is kill the moobs outside in 2 small buildings and then combine the both loots and u r strong enougth to kill that guy u dont need to be a mage and do that and then cast that.... just read the quest its says that

If you die while fighting him, I believe you have to get another Tiki to open the gate again. I died, and i just went through the gate as a ghost and spawned around the corner, healed, then killed him.

Well, now I just found out you can't target him, so you have to go back outside and do the quest AGAIN.. DONT die.

simply kill the 3 famely members that is placed in the towers arround him
-wife
-daughter
-son

then loot the object from them and combine them at the gate and it will open and fight the barstard his elite with about 40k hp.. mostly soloable.

LMAO, lvl 77 enhance shammy /w green and a very few blue's (all quest rewards), and this was prolly the easiest elite ive ever fought, he didnt even seem like an elite and didnt even get my health past 50% (didnt have to summon or pop anything)

Great ! I read here and was a bit wary that someone else might tag him and when an opposing faction player came down just before the gate opened, I charged him (warrior) as soon as it became possible and sure enough the hordie did get involved immediately, I am sure this was not to try to help me but to try to steel the pull. However I won the tag and beat him down in no time only to find the gate shut behind me, I am stuck inside with a 45 min hs cd and an elite on regular repop.

Edit, I see now there is a lever to open from the inside but i got to get him out the way first.

He can also be slowed kited. Just clear the outside block around this door then kite him around. Dont forget the charges he will do to you! They were hitting me for 1000 to 1200 with 1484 armor. Good luck mages!

This quest seems to be broken at this time: I have the Tiki Dervish Ceremony, am standing in front of where Warlord Zol'Maz is standing. It gives an error saying, "Warlord Zol'Maz must be present and not in combat.". ...even though I can see him standing idle behind his cage-door.

Anyone else have this issue and know of a workaround, if any?

Note the gate only opens if you conjure the Tiki, there is no separate token for entrance (that I was searching for for an hour).

Just kill his family, summon the Tiki and he'll come at you.

I completed this with a 76 disc priest without much trouble really.

Basically just made sure I was buffed and mana was full, summoned the tiki and just before he runs at you just pain suppression+power infusion then shield while beating on him a bit until the shield drops (he hits pretty hard) and fear him (make sure you've cleared the immediate area, of course) to throw down some more damage and to let your shield finish the CD, pop a shield again just before he's back to you, and from there a penance+holy fire should finish him off.

Very VERY VERY important: you have to kill the boss INSIDE the building. If you just stand at the entrance, the bars will come down halfway the fight - you won't be able to fight him OR LOOT him, but apparently he'd be perfectly capable to kill you. If so, you need to re-do his family. This may seem stupid but it just happened to me. So kill him inside then activate lever to get out.

If you can't get this quest because Har'koa isn't at the village, relog. Har'koa whispered me and all that, but was nowhere to be found. Logging out and in solved the problem.

I got him down after my third try, i play as a warlock and let my pet go in the first two times dont do that just let the tiki go and then when it has built some threat just start dpsing (found it impossible to keep healing my pet when it tanked) very easy quest overall if u understand what to do :D remember as well to kill the tiki guards before you engage the warlord. Its best to take it outside to avoid whirlwind!

if you're 77+ and have cold weather flying, you can fly right into the family members' buildings -- they don't dismount you, and you can mount up inside to fly out again. this is especially useful if you die on the warlord and have to go get another stinkin tiki ceremony doodad...

Easy as a lock. Just let the tiki get initial aggro, then you can just go balls out on him. You'll pull aggro, but you can just draintank through it. Don't stand in the Whirlwind.

He's stunnable, so probably can be feared or death coiled, but you shouldn't need either.

Soloed as a level 75 Feral druid. Just bear form, and launch all your CDs EXCEPT for bash, then bash him when he launchs retaliate. Cat form, get behind, and unleash. Easy.

I solo'd easy as a 76 Ele Shammy. Didnt have to use any cooldowns or let the tiki agro at all.. I just hit him as soon as I could.. Flame Shock, the lava thing.. lightning bolt, bolt, flame rinse and repeat. I had well over half health when he died.

This quest made me feel guilty. Clearly this is just a game, so I didn't really care, but killing somebody's family is NOT COOL.

I'd never do this quest in real life. The drakkari trolls aren't even that evil from what I saw, they just did what they had to do to survive.

I must have killed this guy in about 6 seconds on my 79 blood DK.
Blue/green quest and dungeon gear.
Didn't need to heal, Just one skill rotation he was down. Popped dancing runic weapon CD though and my ghoul.

I just solo'd this as a 77 holy paladin.

I cleared the two guards first, then stood right in the gateway when I created the enchanted Tiki. Soon as the door opened I used an argent dawn banner to consecrate the ground just to start off and then moved inside where i just kept hitting him with Judgement of light once, then holy favour and lots of holy shocks + a couple more consecrates for good measure. Only had to heal once and he went down very fast for an elite. Of course the enchanted tiki helped.

I was concerned about trying to solo this but my concerns were totally unfounded in the end. I actually had more hassle geting the 3 parts to make the ET than in the main fight. I have mostly greens and a couple of blues for armour and weapons

So basically get in there, If you can heal it certainly makes it a lot easier.

it was easy for me as a warlock, useing my void walker as a tank.

BUT! the first time i tried i started with only half my health, forgetting to eat before hand and when my void walker lost agro i died fast. and learned that the Tiki Dervish Ceremony disappears after use and you have to kill his family again to make another one if you fail. so dont do what i did! lol

Way to go indeed. Seriously, I'm glad to see a few more "gray area" quests in Northrend than you encounter in much of Azeroth and Outland. Quests that leave you feeling a bit guilty or uneasy stick with you more than "go slaughter x mob x times because they're baddies" ones do.

I heartily welcome all the quests that make me think "is this really worth it?"

Plus, with this particular questing region, seeing what the Drakkari have done kinda hammers home to you the danger the Horde and Alliance face in battling the Scourge - how to do it without destroying themselves in the process.

Easy for a 76 Death Knight in green/blues. I kited Yara to the gate, and killed her there, and looted her to make the tiki. I then made a ghoul out of her, and opened the gate. Once I got around 65%, I used Death Pact to regenerate health, and proceeded to wtfpwn Zol'Maz.

After wiping twice, I thought I'd give it one more go. As a lvl 75 Balance Druid, I rooted him, and applied Natures Grasp for when he hits me, so he's rooted again. I kept all dots on him, and summoned my 3 Treants. Luckily, I didnt run outta mana to keep heals, and I wacked Innervate on at the last minute for mana.

That Guardian thing did NOTHING to help me. All he did was follow me around.

The quest text says that if you combine the tikis, you can summon help for the fight against Zol'Maz. This is misleading - casting the Tiki Dervish Ceremony helps you START the fight, but the Dervish is basically worthless once ol' Zol starts poking at you. No damage to speak of, and it cant tank worth troll spit (worth even less than troll sweat, trust me).

This was so easy as a lvl 75 blood DK. Just make a ghoul and when u can make a Dancing Rune Weapon. U dont even have to use a potion or Rune Tap cus he aint that hard. When i was done i had 66% health left.

This guy is tough but not that tough. First time i took him on I got him down to 4%. After getting thee items I needed and combining them I took out his 2 gaurds and healed myself with a Heavy Frostweave bandage then summoned the tiki warrior. I stealthed and when he came at me I popped killing spree first and took him to 76% health. After that he began casting decapitate so I used evasion and just began backing up when he casted decapitate. After a bit of SS him I hit Adrenaline Rush and built up combo points and hit him with evis and Rupture. Right after I died I guess some of the DoT abilities on him like poisons and rupture finally killed him because he dropped dead. Not too hard I just have to go back and hope his body is still there or just kill him again. BTW I am a level 75 combat specced rogue who uses swords.

This quest is so frustrating I've gave up on it.

The Tiki is completely useless and Zol'maz just rushes and defeats me (76 Warrior) with almighty 3k crits and the like.

Then I have to find all three family members again, kill them, make the Tiki, battle Zol'maz and die.

This quest is very difficult...
I didnt read prevous comments but I did this with my DK and I figured a way how to do this without losing all ur health fast
I froze him (Hungry Cold or whatever) and ran in his house closed the gate and let the tiki do all the melee dps
I did all the range dps, and when finally the tiki died I finished off warlord..
AGAIN I didnt read comments so i prolly repeated something ;D

VERY very easy to solo as a 75 Affliction Warlock using the voidwalker. I sent the voidwalker in to tank while I dotted the hell out of him then feared him around a bit until he died. I didn't even get hit.

After you make the tiki and open the gate, let him come out to you. I went inside and after killing him, was locked inside. I was able to loot, but I had to hearth >.>

Just totally destroyed him as Arcane mage upon second attempt. (underestimated first time)

1. Open with a "slow"
2. Wait for the Enchanted Tiki to get a hold of the boss.
3. Get some range if you haven't already
4. Pop Arcane Power
5. Unload with Arcane Blast spam
6. When you pull agro (which you will), frost nova and blink away
7. Continue with Arcane blast spam until he dies.

NOTE:
In this case he still had the "slow" effect on him even until death. But refresh it as needed

Hope that helps. The above strategy made it very easy to solo.

Ok seriously I have tried to do this quest 5 or 6 times and cannot get the warlord to open the door. (I think hes to afriad to come out) anyway I kill the family (something I enjoy more and more as I do it) combine the items in front of the door, summon the warrior infront of the door and the door never opens? Could someone confirm this please?

Just a warning to all the hunters out there. I spawned the tiki helper to kill the 2 guys in front of the boss. When he came out and aggroed to me, I FD'd, and since my pet hadn't attacked yet, he despawned, and I had to gather the mats again.

One more thing to add, after you summon him, you have to wait for him to come out, then slay him. If not, the gate shuts right away and you have to collect the items again.

I'm shocked that nobody mentioned this, but am I the only one that feels crappy about killing his entire family?
Oh, and my advice for Warriors is get a prot set and spec, because it makes killing elites/AOE killing some mob that you need to kill a lot of/not dieing/getting into instances SOOO much easier, but if you aren't prot by now, this advice is probably worthless... oh well, anyway, with even a "slightly" decent tank set this is an easy fight, assuming you handle your CDs decently, pop shield block at the beginning, when that wears off, pop shield wall. For me, that provided enough mitigation to finish the fight, if I had to, i could have last standed too, so keep that in mind.
Also, start your toon as an alchemist/herbalist so you have in infinite supply of free pots and lifeblood that you can pop if your health gets low, and an infinite supply of stat buffs, that get a boost by the merely being an alchemist (who can make that elixir/flask), which makes this fight even easier, but if you haven't done that already, then... yah... nvm...

By killing Tiri, you can loot Tiri's Magical Incantation.
Killing Drek'Maz, you get Drek'Maz's Tiki.
After Yara's death, you obtain Yara's Sword.

After using one of those three items in your inventory (when you have all 3) you create Tiki Dervish Ceremony.

Use that at the locked gate in front of Warlord Zol'maz to let him out and summon an Enchanted Tiki Warrior to fight on your side.

Warlord Zol'maz yells: You have an enchanted tiki? YOU KILLED MY FAMILY!
Warlord Zol'maz yells: I WILL KILL YOU,(your character name here)!
Warlord Zol'maz goes into a frenzy!

Once he is killed, you could take Key of Warlord Zol'Maz from his body.

The Warlord can be found at 66,33. There are 3 smaller temples located in the lower tier before the Warlord himself. In these temples you can find his wife, son & daughter. Each drops one of the required items for this quest.

Once you have all the items 'use' them and it will place an orb in your inventory. When you use the orb it will make the Warlord come out of his chamber and attack you. The Tiki Guardian will defend you once you have been hit and can tank for you fairly easily. Its health isn't great so you will have to throw your own damage in too - just try not to overaggro.

Note: The Warlord hits for ~2k on cloth and can be CC'd

Description

<name>, we need a key to unlock the chains of the rhino god, Akali. Even now he is being prepared for the slaughter.

The Drakkari warlord, Zol'Maz, carries the key. Hearing of your exploits, he has secluded himself and his family at their stronghold up the steps to the northeast.

The warlord is strong and you will need help. If you were to combine the tiki, sword and incantation of his family members, you would be able to summon such help as you challenge him before his home's gate.
