The name of this quest is likely a reference to the Ingmar Bergman film Hour of the Wolf and to an old European myth regarding the hour between night and dawn when evil spirits were at their strongest and wolves were believed to lurk outside of houses.

Alright, here's the lowdown on the Arugal encounter.

Phase 1: He does normal shadowbolts, not hitting horribly hard. Goes to Phase 2 at 75-70%.

Phase 2: Throws up a shield, and summons 3 non-elite adds. Kill the adds to go back to Phase 1. When he hits 50%, he goes to Phase 3.

Phase 3: Again, throws up a shield, but this time he uses a familiar adds, where he takes control of a party member. This can be used on the tank. The target thus begins to attack your party, and you must dps him/her down to less than 35% health, when the debuff gets knocked off. Then he goes back to Phase 1. Continue to dps him until he hits 25%.

Phase 4: See Phase 2, but with three times as many adds. Not hard if you have good AoE dmg. Also, Shara shows up here to help you out. Once you finish off the adds, you can finally take out Arugal himself.

When you arrive on Bloodmoon Isle, take the path up to the Shadowfang Keep-style tower on the top of the hill. As you go up the path, there will be a camp to your right. That's where you'll find Selas, a large worgen. Once you've taken care of him, head up the path again, until you reach another camp to your left. That's where you'll find Varlam, a wolf cultist mounted on a worg.

Once you reach the top of the hill, go around the side of Shadowfang Tower and you'll find Goremaw, a large worg, stabled within. Enter the tower proper, which is very much like SFK in miniature, and fight your way to the top. There you will find the Shade of Arugal himself.

The strategy posted above for Arugal works well. The other bosses are straightforward tank and spank. For Selas and Varlam you'll probably have to deal with adds during the fight. With Goremaw, there are non-elites hanging around outside his stable, but you should be able to kill them first.

If you run off the platform, for example during the mind control phase, Arugal can reset. So, stay up on the platform during the fight.

If you haven't killed the first 3 mini-bosses before doing Arugal, you won't be able to complete the quest and you'll have to kill Arugal again (to get Sasha to spawn).

The scene resets very quickly after Arugal goes down, so claim your quest reward from Sasha and get out.

I scraped through this solo as a 78 elemental shaman. It's tough as hell, required what I think was honestly a bit of exploiting and lot of LOSing, but I did it.

To begin with Arugal starts off surrounded by a bunch of nonelite mobs. I tried bringing them down one by one, accidentally aggroed Arugal when I killed the last one standing too close to him, and then tried leashing him by running down the staircase. In doing so I discovered that you can actually get through quite a bit of staircase (I think I actually reached the bottom of the castle) before Arugal leashes.

But by the time I'd flown back to the top, the mobs around him and slowly begun to respawn. What the hell, right? Annoyed, I simply opened up on Arugal and fortunately he pulled without going close to the adds. I pulled him near the staircase (LOS him) and opened up on him from down there.

Annoyingly enough, Arugal is not interruptable, but his shadow bolts can be grounded and LOSed. I was forced to just heal through and ground most of them.

When I hit 75%, somehow I seemed to skip Phase 2 entirely. Arugal teleported back up top, but still remained at 75% and was still targetting me. After a while I ran up to the top to see what was going on, and briefly saw 3 mobs despawning. Arugal then chased after me back to the staircase. (I believe this was because I was not in range to aggro the 3 mobs, and thus they despawned and Arugal became attackable again).

Phase 3, obviously I had no problem with Mind Control as I was doing it solo.

Phase 4 was when I got into trouble. You can't pull the same "let em despawn" in phase 2, because Sasha shows up to interfer - errr, help, and she'll pull the whole friggin group of worgen herself. I threw up Fire Elemental Totem, which got instagibbed. Thunderstorm, Fire Nova Totem (with stun) helped a bit, but I came really close to dying, and had next to 0 mana left. Eventually I gave up, dropped Earthbind, and started booking it down the staircase. Arugal followed, and I played a slow game of LOS/grounding and healing myself as my mana regenned. I bumped into an add on the staircase on the way down, but by that time, I had bought myself enough time to regain the mana and heals to finish off Arugal and deal with the add without any problem.

Stupidly easy solo as a 76 Unholy DK.

BUT DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET!

I cannot stress this enough. In fact, ANY class that has a pet should not use their pet when attempting to solo this. He's why.

Around phase 2-3 he will attempt to MC a member of your party. In the case of a solo pet user like myself, his only actual option to MC is me. He will promptly do so, I will stomp the pet, and he will reset.

I actually made the mistake of rezzing the pet mid-fight, which only made him do it again. Leave the pets home.The adds phases are tough unless you are an aoe spec, or have copious ways to heal. Being a DK, I get both, so I had no problem. Keep any defensive coodowns (Lichborne/Icy Fort/AMS/AMZ up as much as possible. Use IF specifically for the add phases, AMS and AMZ for when he's pelting you with spells. Lichborne and such are bood whenever.

2 manned as arms warr and shadow priest in T6 at lvl74, easy enough. At mc just fear the other until the debuff runs out, retaliation and bladestorm together takes acare of add rush

Just finished this quest. Solo'd as a level 74 frost mage.

Arg was pretty easy because he can be snared. Simply get out your elemental, use it to frost nova all his starting mobs in place and then one blizzard will kill them all. Give your pet a few seconds for aggro then bandage him and then nuke the boss.

You'll get the boss to the first change, and at that time use your pets second nova to trap the mobs then blizzard them down again. The pet will die but don't get it back out again until after the second change. You'll need to run down the stairs to LOS the boss and bandage here but it's doable. Drink a super rejuve pot as well.

For phase 3 get out your elemental again and repeat P1. At the transition you'll have a lot more worgen but it won't matter one blizz kills them all. For the last phase the NPC shows up, invis and let it tank. After it has aggro, go all out. There you go, solo'd as a level 74 mage...

Bloodmoon isle "begins" at ~ 83.60 28.25

Just solod Arugal as a 73 prot pala in SWP gear. Seal of Light, Judgement of Light, Shadow Res. Aura. Easy-mode. The adds he summons gives you enough mana return, and if not, Divine Plea can help out (and Arcane Torrent for BE's like myself).

Note that the other quest mobs can be found at various camps on the way up to the tower. The exception os Gorwmaw, who's in a stable. At the entrance to the tower, head left before going inside. The stables is round the corner.

Solod as a 74 Feral Druid in S2 or worse gear. Had to make use of extreme line of sight exploitation.

Once you kill all the adds, faerie fire him and run down the first staircase (call this staircase1). You should now be on an outdoors landing (call this landing1). Line of sight all through phase 1 going between the corner of staircase1 and landing1. When you're getting lowish, wait for him to start casting Shadow bolt, then LOS and Regrowth/Heal up and continue.

When he ports up top for phase 2 and summons 3 adds, simply wait. Soon enough they will all despawn, and Arugal will run towards you. Go back to your LOS spot (staircase1-landing1 corner) and resume what you did in phase 1.

He will soon port back up for the last phase, where you won't be able to let them despawn because of Sasha. Run up, do a quick swipe on them all to gain aggro, pop berserking and everything you have, and backpedal down the tower. Make sure while you do this (obviously spamming mangle and maul), you are also avoiding shadow bolts. Hug every corner you take, and eventually you'll have all the adds down. If you're lowish health, make use of LOS>Heal.

From here you've pretty much finished it. The only hard part really is when he summons >6 adds, once you've learned the LOS well.

Did it on my second try.

Soloed, 74 BM hunter (51/14) worm pet, 2piece t5 (shoulders/gloves) the rest t6(4piece).

Before I start this off, I will say that while I accomplished this with a Worm, I would highly recommend that if you have a 74+ gorilla that you use it instead.

Phase one: Nuke, no cooldowns. Kill the adds that come up single-target and apply mend pet when needed (it's usually only needed when the worm is taking damage from adds and arugal).

Phase two: In my experience, he didn't MC even when I used a pet. Regen/top off, bandages and such. Place a frost trap in the middle of the roof.

Phase three: Nuke, no cooldowns. When the adds come, kite them onto your frost trap while your worm is attacking, this will insure that Sasha will engage the adds. Kite them with cheetah as long as you can, then when they get back to you, feign and run up to Arugal. You will eventually get healing aggro from the remaining adds, but Sasha one-shots them so you'll have less than starting. Pop Deterrence and make sure that you're facing all attacking adds while firing at Arugal. This is when you nuke. BW, Rapid Fire, AP trinket, and Blood Fury if you made the correct Faction/Race choice ;). If all goes well, Sasha should kill the final worg before both 1) you die and 2) Arugal dies. Casually shoot him and you've sucessfully soloed the most difficult soloable 3man I've encountered thus far for a BM hunter.

Just soloed as a 75 Feral Druid.
Fairly easy, plow through initial adds with savage roar, drinking/buffing before the last one. Kill him fast, bear tank with lacerate, mange, maul - the works.

He's immune to stun, so bash/heal doesn't work, but I had a 2pc t5 set for soloing, and the instant regrowth + rejuv was basically how I healed myself. He doesn't hit particularly hard, mainly because he casts most of the time. Just swipe/maul tank the adds, and shift out to HT after them. Popped Frenzied Regeneration on the second set of adds, but I didn't need to.

3 person quest? Really now.

Ugh. Solo'd as a 74 enhancement shaman. But I didn't get the credit for killing the damn guy.

Started out pretty easy. Just used grounding totem/LOS as much as possible, healing when necessary. Phase 2 was easy enough; non-elites aren't difficult to kill. Didn't get the mind control of phase 3, of course.

Then came phase 4. I took a beating for a few seconds, dropped fire elemental totem, and took down 1 or 2 of the adds. Dropped earthbind and decked it down the tower. Grounding totem/LOS/earthbind as much as possible. I don't know what happened, but by the time I was at the bottom the adds had either despawned or Sasha killed them all, 'cause I only saw Arugal left. He'd gone from ~35% down to 6k HP, so I just ran in and got the last few hits to take him down.

After 45 minutes of trying to repeat all of this a group finally came along and invited me for the kill.

Soloed as a level 76 prot warrior in T6.

All but Arugal himself can be stunned, so they aren't even worth mentioning. Arugal's shadowbolt cannot be interrupted, but reflectable.

I wasn't able to clear the platform before repops, however, I was able to clear one side and solo pull Arugal without the other mobs.

Used my cooldowns early on, since it's a long fight. When he changed phase, I bandaged up and cannibalized. If you fight him away from the platform like I did, the summoned adds won't attack automatically, and I had to go pull them (again, no social aggro), I then used Figurine of Colossus to heal myself. Once Sasha arrives, just focus on survival and dodge shadowbolts, she can solo Arugal the reset of the way.

Oh, and because Shara comes to help you during the Arugal fight you can hand in the quest to her at the top of the tower afterwards if you've already killed the other 3 mobs.

If - like me - you just landed on the tower & killed Arugal first, then she'll have despawned by the time you kill the other three and you'll have to go back to her original camp to hand in..

Adds wise I thought I would mention this as not so much on the adds here just on Arugal.

As a L77 affily lock I managed to do Varlam ok, immune to slowing and fear but got dots on him and ran, ended up lifedraining him, was very close didn't use HS or pot and he died with me on 70hp (out of 13319 with imp).

Selas was very easy, he's really slow and I kited him around just using corr, coa and SL and the odd SB nightfall proc, aside from an occasional axe throw he did no melee damage on me and never got close.

Gorema is even easier, is really really slow, can just run around the building a few times dotting him, if he does get close and melee, has a 1min DoT disease which may stack 3 times and if it does, can spread to party members.

On Arugal, I started with voidy out and dotted him up, was ok on the shadow bolts and the first 3 mobs but an allie warrior who I had helped do it helped me (am horde) with the 2nd pack off adds. When he did the MC he just healed me to 100% and attacked the voidy a bit, when I was released, we simply nuked him down with the NPC.

Anybody think Blizzard might need to speed up the respawn rate for the mobs around Arugal? Twenty seconds is just way too long to have to wait for these guys to show back up.

Easily soloed all the mobs in the quest as a 76 prot pally with average gear. Just when I was low on mana fighting Arugal, he went into phase 3, summoning all the mobs letting me block and dodge my mana back. All 4 were pretty simple.

Selas - 85.79 , 28.03 - 63.8k HP
Varlam - 84.95 , 23.14 - 53.2k HP
Goremaw - 86.7 , 27.2 - 53.2k HP - He is right of the entrance of the House.

They all can be stunned, I managed to solo Selas and Varlam as 75lvl PvP Spec Rogue they are preaty easy, but Goremaw its harder and requres healer or some1 to dispel the dot that he puts.

Shade of Arugal - 106.4k HP
He is at the top of the house surrounded with mobs, clear them 1st then u can attack him. He has like 3 phases:
1. Summons Lots of mobs;
2. He sacrifice the person wich is tanking him - it need to be downed to below 50% fast to remove the effect and when effect removed Arugal aggroes another person;
3. Again summons alot of mobs;
He cast Shadow Bolt whole time that cannot be interupted;

After u kill him Sasha is showing up there and u can turn the
quest and choose;

Fangsever Shoulderguards
Keen Razorfang Spaulders
Worg-Rendering Shoulderguards
Bone-Polished Iceplate Shoulders

Soloed this as 76 Ret Pala, Not hard at all. Well it was little hard and that was phase 3, got panic when all those Worgs came so i used bubble first and then i AoEd and used Divine Storm untill all died and Ofc i healed myself. When all Worgs are down just NUKE!

A tip to all ret palas in 76: Don't look for a grp for this Q, Just go there and solo!

Two maned this with me, a 74 mage and a 74 druid. Pretty tough fight. The key for a mage trying to two man is to use iceblock and invisiblility. You can invisablility out of the combat, eat, drink, whatever you need, then get back in and finish him off. Good luck, hope this helps. =D

As a 76 prot warrior I was able to solo the first 3x elites pretty easily.

But Arugal himself just tore me up.

He casts shadowbolts far faster than I could reflect them, and the ones I did didn't seem to do much.

Soloed this as a lvl 80 affliction warlock with 2 points in improved health funnel and 3 in Demonic Brutality (improved torment)
My voidwalker has about 15k health with "Glyph of voidwalker" so keeping him alive was fairly easy.

The 3 muppets before Arugal were pure tank and spank. I just put one siphon life at the start and let the void collect threat. After 15secs or so i just let everything go. CoA, Corruption and haunt which finished the mobs with ease.

After reading the tactics on Arugal and seeing his health i got a little discouraged but decided to give it a go anyway. :)

Phase 1: Tank and spank ,let the void collect threat for about 10secs then drop a siphon life and corruption. When those expire ,add CoA to the rotation.

Phase 2: When he summons the adds just use howl of terror and scatter them as you dot them all up.
CoA, Corruption & Siphon life on each and haunt on one of them.

Phase 3: This may not be very reliable but when he tried to mind control ,it was resisted.....probably since i'm five levels higher than him. :) I just waited until his shield dropped then continued dpsing.

Phase 4: Right before the adds show up ,hug your void and use his suffering when they do. Dot three up fully then use howl of terror and dot up the rest. Sasha shows up shortly after and helps with the adds.When the adds are down the fight is basically over and just finish off Arugal.

I used one healthpot in this fight during the 4th phase.
A healthstone and a healthpot are recommended to bring along.

Went back and soloed this with my l80 protection paladin when I realised the plate shoulder reward was actually better than what I was wearing.

The first three mobs were easy. For Arugal, I used shadow resist aura until he summoned his adds, then retribution aura, and switched back each time I killed off the adds. Judgement of Wisdon, Seal of Light, kept holy shield up, spammed Shield of Righeous and Hammer of Righteous, used my Avenger's Shield cooldown when there were adds, used Lay on Hands and Divine Plea when I went low on mana, and the rest was easy.

Horde quest starts with a book picked up from Vladek (killed as part of My Enemy's Friend).

My Enemy's Friend is one of those unchained chained quests that only becomes available after doing other quests in the area (The Thane of Voldrune, which is part of another series of quests...).

With how convoluted many of these chains get, it's a wonder we can keep track of them at all... I occasionally return to other towns and areas to see if new quests popped up since I was away questing in other zones.

For whatever it's worth, this is effortlessly soloable as a 75 frost mage with points in magic absorption, as his bolt spam didn't break my ice barrier before the cooldown was up again. Just refresh your shield every cooldown, manage your mana, and blizzard down the adds he summons.

His lieutenants aren't snarable, but they are stunnable via deep freeze off FoF procs and have low enough hp that you can burn them down with cooldowns. They're probably more dangerous than Arugal, actually.

May be possible without magic absorption; I think that the huge bump to ice barrier you get at 75 is probably necessary, though.

Unholy DK's have really no problems of doing this solo but you pretty much have to have Anti-Magic Zone as it helps a lot, i didnt find Shell to be enough since Arugal is chain casting shadow bolts.

- Stay near arugal all the time, utilize your AoE's (Unholy Blight, Death & Decay, diseases, pestilence & blood boil) - spread that disease and punish them. This way even if the spawns are still alive you'll be doing damage to Arugal too when he comes out of his bubble.

- Use Bone Shield & Icebound Fortitude when you need them, but, dont use them both at the same time. rotate so you'll have them when you need it. For example when the spawns come.

Soloed as a lvl 75 blood DK , at the MC just pop up your ghoul right before and hope that you wont kill it under the time you are MC'ed if you dont he wont evade and then after reset.

the little tricky part was when he summoned alot of worgens but just run to stair and get out of line of sight so he cant cast that deadly shadowbolts

I had a great time Soloing this today.

Lvl 74 frost Death Knight. Pulled the adds one by one. Attacked him, quickly reached 3/3 Acclimation so his shadowbolts weren't really hitting hard enough to do much damage. Kept spamming Death strike till he Summoned adds. I, of course, summoned my ghoul and dealt with the ads with no problem. went back to killing argul, still spamming Death strike.

Little did I know he MCs you at 60% health or something like that. Master Argul saw fit to grace his new minion with the gift of Worgens Blood. Regenerate 2% Maximum health and 20 Runic power every second. My Ghoul, being a BAMF like myself had no trouble staying alive for the 15 seconds i was MCd.

After the MC, Master Argul was no longer Master Argul. And his new Enemy Turned pet Turned enemy still had Worgens Blood.
Poor Argul got ROFLstomped.

The whole point of this I guess is to say if you have a pet and you're attempting to Solo him, keep your pet out for the MC and hope your pet can take a few hits. The last 50% was a cakewalk.

I noticed a bunch of you said not to use your pets because of the mind control phase. I'm sure this is true.

One interesting note for people on PvP servers however, is that apparently, if the opposing faction helps you and one of you gets mind controlled. The other can run down the stairs and the person mind controlled will reset to Arugal but Arugal himself will not reset. So you can essentially just wait for the mind control to wear off and go back on to Arugal.

I solo'd up until the Shade of Arugal as a lvl 75 hunter with pet. Hardest of the 3 that lead up to Arugal was Selas. Just dps'd him like mad and froze the 2 guys in the camp with him. Mend pet, Drums of Battle, Trinkets and being Beast Mastery spec'd FTW! Just thought I'd share ;)

Yeah quite soloable as a 77 DK. The only thing you have to watch out for is if you have bloodworms up when he wants to cast the mind control thing. It'll basically bug up and he'll reset. If you're reasonably lucky then you'll just skip that part and easily finish him off. Just make sure your diseases are up for your death strikes.

Solo'd all of it as a Blood DK.

After about 3 resets, I figured out how to time the MC and I pulled out my pet right as he did it. Instead of MCing and resetting, he MC'd and had me attack my pet, keeping me in combat so I could finish the fight.

Not sure if anyone got this, but he was MCing me without a pet anyways, so yeah.

Tried to solo this as an 80 Holy Priest. I managed to beat the actual battle, but got no credit for killing Shade of Arugal.

I dotted and wanded and threw down a Lightwell for most of my healing...had no problem killing the 3 adds, then when he summons a billion I just lazily blew all my mana on Holy Nova to kill them...

Problem is that I somehow got no credit for actually killing shade. I'm wondering if it's because Sasha wound up doing too much damage to Arugal, so be careful. I was fairly certain I did enough damage to warrant credit but apparently not.

Just did this with a 76 Death Knight(me), 73 rogue and 75 rogue. I had no trouble tanking the bosses up to Arugal, stayed at 90%. My rough stats for the fight were 16.3 hp, about 430 defense and 17k armor.

The only trouble was with Arugal himself. His shadowbolts do about 1k each and he spams them, and cannot be silenced.

On the adds I simply used pestilence+DnD and the rogues tore down the adds. The lowest I got HP wise was 60% but I popped a Vampiric Blood and a Rune Tap and finished the fight at full.

difficult but very fun quest. Soloed as a 77 prot pally. arugal was the only one who presented any problems the others are weak. remember to watch out for the worgens he summons during the fight on 2 seperate times. the first he gets only 3-4 so not much to worry about. but the second time he summons like 8 so be rdy for a serous fight. also i read that he does a mindcontrol thing but if u solo it he doesnt so all in all pretty hard one to solo but worth it if u like the challenge

If you are attempting to solo this quest, make sure you have *no* pets out for phase three. This is not just hunter/warlock pets, or ghouls - I had bloodworms out (can't really avoid it), and the encounter reset every time. If you have that talent, just do the whole fight without using blood/heartstrike. I suspect totems would count as well.

Just make sure you put on Seal of Light just before you go into fight - I got a minute silence in the first or second phase and once it was almost through - BAM - another minute silence. So put your Seal of Light up and spam Hammer of the Righteous when silenced.

Otherwise just take the hits and you're fine. The adds are no problemo as they take care of themselves with retri aura on and HotR spam. If you're about to run out of mana, remember you have the Divine Plea.

Managed to solo him as a Demonlock.

I used pot and healthstone. I used demon armor for the extra healing. Keep your meta for the second wave. I used my pet and he didnt mind controled me. I drain lifed - heal pet all the time no serius strategy.

Let me first sum this quest up in one word, "FUN" :-)

Was on my way to solo these guys on my 76 Prot. Warrior and picked up some random mage that was there on the way up to Aurgal. Pulled all the adds plus him and TC/Shockwave to keep em on me while mage AoE them all. When the MC came is when I started laughing. I, of course, got Worgified and proceded to beat on my new mage buddy. He IB and survived it. I got the awesome "Worgen Blood" buff..2%health and 20rage per sec. so having over 21k health, became a God for 5 mins. Reflect the SBs and its a cakewalk oh, and Enjoy your new blues.

This was very easy as a ret paladin in full savage set with 17k hp at lvl78. The first mini-bosses were ez-mode, well the only interesting fight was the wolf since he had some nice tripple attack at times, but nothing major. Arugal was just as easy, if not even easier than the mini-bosses ill explain why.

The thing is you have shadow resistance aura, it makes his nukes laughable.

The second thing is if you keep enough distance, you can hit him but he wont melee you but instead cast his lame shadowbolts. This was just too easy if you ask me.

The phase where he had his zerg of worgs attack you, no big issue as a ret paladin. Arugal had enough problems trying to hit you with his shadowbolts and just move in the stairway to mess with his los.

Tacts: Use your tank gear (If you have any), go frost aura, you will be tanking him, really, just zerg him down as much as you can, if your blood like me, just spam all your healing spells, the ret pala can off heal if it's needed once in a while, but it's not :D .. Well, when he spawns mobs, just aoe/kill em, when he mind controls you (It's always the tank), then the paladin will just bouble, or go survival mode, really easy fight .. I almost think it can be soloed, if your really skilled, and maybe level 77-78

75 unholy DK attempting this. First 3 elites were incredibly easy, no problems at all. Just keep in frost presence. Got to Arugal killed the guys surrounding him, they reset, killed 2 more and he accidentaly aggro'd, accidentaly fell down the stairs and he reset (lol). Went back up and just went straight for him tried to LoS on the stairs..didnt work fell again, but he didnt reset this time, followed me down. I had him and 5 non-elite random mobs on me, somehow survived that. As I was running back up he MC'd me. I found the MC incredibly helpful, mainly b/c there is a debuff he puts on you for 5 mins that gives u 2% hp every second. Prolly what saved me in the end. Started his last phase where he spawned all the mobs next to him. Spread all my diseases and slammed a D&D, Sasha came up to pretend she was helping, and I finished him off, not neccesarily too difficult, rotate damage reduction. His shadowbolts dont hit for much anyways, maybe 600-800 on me. I dont know about classes that cant heal but I had little problems with this.

Solo'd as a level 80 Shadow Priest (I figure squishy's could do with some guidance)

Before phase one try to clear as much of the top platform from trash mobs.You may at some point aggro the boss, but make sure you kill the adds attacking you first because they hit harder than the boss.

Phase 1: Make sure that Inner Fire and Shadow Protection are up, and that you are not diseased. Otherwise save your mana and don't use your shield until phase two.

Phase 2: Throw on a Power Word: Shield and Mind Sear the adds, cure any disease before turning back to the boss.

Phase 3: Didn't See it.

Phase 4: More adds, make sure your Inner Fire is still up and keep your Power Word: Shield up. If you get low on health, Shield > Greater Heal > Cure Disease > Shadowform > Dispersion and get back to DPS. When adds are dead, switch to the boss and kill him.

NB:
I am geared for Naxxramas 10, so you may need to use health or mana pots if your DPS isn't high enough (according to recount my overall DPS for the fight was 1286).

I'll try to explain how I soloed it as a decent northrend geared 76 feral druid.
(sorry for my approximative english)

Well, the first 3 lieutenants are easy so I'll explain for arugal only (took me 3 tries).

The first optionnal trick is to use the talent "Protector of the pack" (only tanking talent I luckily had). I asked a friend to successively log 4 of his alts ; I invite one, he alt+f4 so the alt stays in the party, I invite another, etc. The four party members are offline but you get the protectof of the pack 12% damage reduction in bear form.
(Note : with the incoming patch the talent will be active even while soloing)

Buffing yourself with elixir or pots can, of course, ease the fight.
Clean the first mobs on the platform without aggroing Arugal, then get on the side of the platform and pull Arugal with faerie fire.
Break ligne of sight (LOS) so that he goes down the stairs. Then turn around and go in the staircase from were you got to the platform, to break LOS so that Arugal follows you in.

Melee him to.. Huu... 50%? Don't quite remember, anyway at some point he will teleport back to the top of the platform and call 3 adds and stop fighting. If you stayed in the staircase the adds won't aggro you! Then you can just heal yourself, and when you're ready (you're still in combat), just go back into bear form and faerie fire pull the adds.
Arugal will start bolting you again so you've got to gain time by briefly breaking his LOS (while killing the adds) so that he stops casting but don't move too quickly to you, and repeat until he gets to melee range. DO NOT USE BERSERK NOW, you'll need it later.
If you're already low on health and that the adds are dead, you can move away a little and heal while he's bolting you (btw the bolts do 1k-1k2dmg and he was hitting me 700-900). Better to heal now even if you're not that low thought.

At 25% (I think, again I didn't pay attention), he will teleport back and summon MOAR adds o: But then again, if you're in the staircase you won't aggro and can heal yourself. Then Sasha stupidly come in and one-shot a worgen... Pulling all the others in the process. Way to go, Sasha.
Now THIS is the time to pop up Berserk to quickly kill the adds (and I hope you also have glyph of Maul, and if you don't then... Well, /facepalm I guess), while you try to break LOS with Arugal. With all the adds you'll also get lots of rage so it's a good time to use Frenzied Regeneration (when Berserk is over ofc).
When all the adds are dead you can again get some distance and heal yourself, then finish him.

The only downside to getting out of aggro range for the adds is that Sasha won't really help you and will despawn before you can kill Arugal (and validate) but, hey, just head back to where you got the quest.

not much strategy.. charged into each battle with mark of blood on the bosses and icebound fortitude. arugal is a little difficult if u dont wipe out his adds 1st though, although after they're dead its just the same beserker style strategy as the others with the ocasional blood tap ;)

the only time i died during this quest was i flew right out over the ocean and died due to fatigue. moral to this story.... dont read read wowhead while your netherdrake is on cruise control! =P

Just did this 2 man, me mage 78 and another mage 80, nuke the hell out of Arugal, AOE the mobs and sheeped the other mage on mind control thing, we finished both over 90% hp. Im full frost, the other one was raid fire.

The other 3 elites just disapeard after 5 secs. :)

If u're planning to solo this as a prot paladin (which i successfully did at lvl 73 =P) the main rule is: Dispel the Disease! If you get the full (5) stack, you get turned into a werewolf for a minute which silences you for the duration. This pretty much means that you're dead (if fighting a lot of enemies at the same time (the way each lvling prot should)). Found that out the hard way =\

When soloing this quest I found that if you cleanse the worg disease, you won't come under the influence of MC. It seemed like only when you were infected and transformed was he able to control you.
However!
The MC is your friend. :) Don't cure the disease.
Even if Arugal comes out full life at the end of MC he has given you a wicked buff that lasts 4min (as mentioned above) and full life for you as well. It'll be much harder to try and solo without the blood buff so be happy when you get it! Couple that with an indestructible pot and you're all good.

It was quite hard when he spawned the big group of adds (the one with like 7-10), but ii managed to kill them with the gorilla's thunderstomp and the new overpowered hunter volley.

Soloed this quest today on my 73 DK currently 48 / 0 / 16. All fights were straight forward for me. I stayed in frost presence, using icebound fort and runetap when needed. For shade of Arugal i tossed anti-magic shell into the rotation, and death and decay + pestilence for the adds. I had to use 1 heath potion. I was supprised at the ease at which i defeated these mobs. For Selas I used death grip to grab the mobs around him, including the one behind him. This also brought the Boss. I downed the add popped rune tap and jumped off the cliff running back to the water, waited for him to stop chasing then returned, healed up and engaged, downed him with 1/2 health remaining.

Solo'd this as a level 75 prot warrior. Kill all but 1 of the adds, make sure you don't have the wolf thing on you. Then go to one side and hit spell reflect. Go up and taunt him then run down to the stairs. He should follow you.

You can spell reflect 1 in every 3 of his shadow bolts and just beat on it with devastate/shield slam/revenege/shockwave/conc blow. When he summons the mobs bandage yourself and go up the stairs a bit so when he runs up to you can catch him slightly up and LoS him for one more shadow bolt. Keep DPSing him down.

When he summons more adds, bandage as much as you can until Sasha comes to help, make sure you pull ALL of the mobs so Sasha can help you by shooting the adds. Thunderclap shockwave and cleave. When shockwave stun runs out use shield block and keep aoe+revenge. Make sure to keep spell reflecting his bolts. When shield block runs out use shield wall and enraged regeneration. Once you finish the adds DPS him down to death. Use last stand only if you are at about 500 hp. (Can't survive another bolt)

Quite tricky but try to have healing pots and also if you have any trinket cooldowns or such use them in the last phase because thats when you won't be able to bandage up to full again i.e it actually matters how fast you reduce his hp.

Soloed this as a lvl 76 Enhancement shaman. Mostly blue gear (quest rewards from Northrend + Zul'Drak weapons from amphitheater and the wanted poster).

I put down Strength of Earth, Flametongue and Healing Stream totems. After killing all but the mobs closest to Arugal, I just body pulled them so as not to aggro Arugal himself. After dispatching all of them, I put a grounding totem up, waited for the CD to finish and then engaged Arugal. Does mostly shadow bolts which can hurt (and that's what the grounding totems are for). In melee he only hit me for 1k-1.2k, so that's easy to heal with MW > HW.

Don't immediately pop every cooldown. Save the wolves for the last wave of adds. You should be able to outheal all incoming damage with just Maelstrom > Healing Wave before then.

First time I fought him I popped the wolves at the beginning and died during the last wave of adds due to too much incoming damage.

LOS the shadowbolts by going up and down the stairs and lacerate/mangle him. LOS to get heals off also. When adds come, do the same thing while swiping/mauling the adds. Had maul glyph and innervated once. Used stam gear.

We were able to complete it , Aff warlcok 75 & Arms warrior 77.. was easy till the part of the Shade of Arugal !

We saw his 106 k Hp & said it will be so hard , but when the adds keep spawining ... were shocked , but kept aoe`ing & fearing & keep buffs on the shade >>
It took alot of time but eventually , he managed to die muhaha

Sole'ed as lvl 77 holy pala.

Shade of Arugal is an endurance fight so be prepared to use SoW and JoW ... Main DPS contributors were consecration and retribution aura, that helped a lot on the adds and the pushback while casting FoL was negligible. Cleanse yourself of the poison and throw a holy shock whenever possible. It took about 4-5 mins to finish the fight, but is perfectly doable as long as you pay attention and keep your health topped.

The first three elites are fairly easy.

When fightning Arugal, I put my Shadow Aura on and use both Seal and Judgement of Light, and keep doing the 9696 rotation ( HoR / HS / SoR / Judge / HoR / Consecration) while I get focused on him. I didn't take care of adds, 'cause Consecration and Holy Shield burns them down.

Solo'd this quest, with some ease, as a Protection Paladin with 14,000hp.
Just a few notes:
- I had only just changed to Protection, and so I was wearing dps gear and a weapon/shield from the AH.
- I was level 78 whilst doing this.

(The three elites were purely tank'n'spank, very easy, although the mounted elite hit quite hard. Remember to keep the bites dispelled.)
So, I had Shadow Res Aura up through the fight to mitigate some damage, and I fought Arugal on the staircase, as to avoid a number of adds. This was a dumb choice, since I was OOM due to Arugal being a spellcaster.
I just kept Judgement and Seal of Light up, and judged when I could. Got to the stage where the girl shows up, and from then on it was cake; I went from 0-full mana in seconds, due to the Worgs spawning, and was able to just AOE everything down with great ease. Smack Arugal a few times, and voila!

Just thought I'd let any Paladin out there know; good luck and happy hunting!

Just did the quest for the first time.
2 manned.
1 Warlock (74) 1 Druid (77)

Warlock got a Voidwalker to tank all of these guys and either me or the lock healed it at critical times wich was only once I believe during the fight with the Shade of Arugal.

The 3 mobs (not counting Arugal) are easy to do. just nuke em down and watch out for pulling some adds that might be around them.

Arugal himself was a nice mini-boss-ish fight.

He hits with a shadow bolt every now and then and doesn't hit too hard.

Every once in a while he becomes immune to anything (you'll see a small bubble around him).
When this happens adds will spawn. (a few at first, I believe 4. about 12 when he does it for the third (and probably last) time.)
AoE them down or take them one by one. wichever works out the fastest but I'm assuming AoE'ing will be the fastest option.

When he summons an entire legion of worgs Sasha comes in to help you smash the last few health points away (yeah she sure took her damn time)

All in all it wasn't a too hard quest but surely it can't be easily solo'd (if solo-able at all)

Soloed this as a 74 SL/FG spec warlock. On Arugal, tanked with VW and dpsed slowly while keeping voidwalker up with Health Funnel. Save your aoe taunt for the second wave of adds! On the first wave, there's only 3 and you can easily last long enough to have the voidwalker take each one off individually. On the second wave, aoe taunt them and Health Funnel like crazy while Sasha kills the adds for you. Then you just go back onto Arugal and kill him, not too hard (I did die trying to do him with my felguard the first time not knowing about the adds).

I did not ever get mind controlled, don't know if this is a bug or what, but I didn't have to deal with that, not sure why. On both attempts, he yelled something out like something was supposed to happen, but nothing ever did.

I tried soloing as a 74 feral druid. The first 3 elites were easy, tank and spank. Killed Selas while having an add on me, and had a close call on Goremaw because he seemed to hit quite hard.

Arugal is another story. First time I wiped at the second wave because I wasn't really prepared that everyone would come storming down. Second try, I wiped because I noobed with swipe in stead of berserk->manglespam. Third try I failed again because I popped berserk, and was just spamming mangle, without noticing I had actually targeted Arugal who stood far away casting shadowbolt, berserk wasted. So whatever you do, PAY ATTENTION, and being tired is not recommended ;p
Might have been able to solo it if I didn't noob so much.

Oh and at the fourth try, I pulled Arugal by accident, and he actually followed me all the way out of the castle/tower. I didn't even have roots on me just then, so beware. Usually he resets if you get to the end of the stairs, but well, he can go further.

Anywho, while going back I got a 74 enha shaman to join, once again killed the first 3 elites because the shaman hadn't killed them yet, once again they were very easy, we even had 2-3 adds on Selas and Vargam.
This was more or less a walk in the park at Arugal:
DPSing him down to first addspawning was a lot faster obviously.
Enha shaman DPSing while feral druid tanks in bear > Feral druid wearing him down in bear

Then he mind-controlled me. I had forgotten to tell the shaman about the MC, and the shaman tried to DPS me down. For some reason I didn't even get below 70%
Anyway, the mind control is a debuff lasting for about 20-30 secs(can't remember exactly), at the same time you'll get an awesome debuff called Worgen's Blood(https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=53089). This made the whole thing a lot easier because I had unlimited rage, and a constant heal while the shaman threw a heal at me if I got below 50%.

So at the second addspawning, I used berserk and glyphed maul together with manglespam, while having virtually unlimited rage, while the shaman used earth elemental. Needless to say, this wasn't really hard:
Earth elemental, shamans magma totem, my glyphed maul and manglespam took care of the adds while my main focus was Arugal himself, spamming growl and FFF to keep aggro(seems like aggro resets, at least at the second addspawn, maybe the first as well, anyone can confirm?), easy pie.

I guess most people can 2 man it pretty easy, soloing requires attention, being on alert, and possibly multiple tries. No matter what, the pulling down the stairs tactic is great, and I found 2-4 places where LOSing his shadowbolts were pretty easy.

I think this might have been nerfed or something. Sasha does not help out at all, she can't control any of the adds. As a lvl 77 Pally, once it hits Phase 3, the adds all kill me pretty fast. Sasha can't even hold the aggro of one mob, even if you completely stop attacking! What a waste of "help".

Easily solo'd as a 75 Shammy (elemental).

I started by just firing at him without aggroing his friends through the first phase. Grounding + healing + constant DPS.

In phase 2 I just stood at the back and let his summoned worgen despawn. I didn't even have to do that phase.

I never encountered a mind control phase... but that makes sense. I was solo.

When the chick finally joins you, I just dropped my earth elemental totem. He took quite a punishing, and gave me more than enough time to magma + chain lightning.
Once his adds are dead, I just moved on to finish him.

Solo'd at 78 as a Ret Pally. 3 words. Seal of Light. Arugal MC'd me randomly and reset during the encounter and I was still attacking so it started the fight all over again without me fully healed up. But with Seal of Light + Judgement of Wisdom, managed to finish the fight with full health. Be decently geared though, gonna need the health for when the adds go psycho. Oh and try Shadow Resist aura out on this one :) It's stupid easy. If you want a challenge, try Seal of Martyr/Blood on him.

Solo'ed as lvl 75 protection pally. The three elites on the way up pose no problem, just take them down. When I got to the main boss at the top of the tower I tried to clear the adds around him one by one before taking him on. They spawned too quick for me though so before killing all, new ones spawned. It annoyed me a bit so I thought I might just give it a go anyway... Attacked main boss with approx three adds still around, shadow resistence aura up. Just attacked him with what I had (trying to be as mana efficient as possible, seal of wisdom up and BoS). Consecration every now and then to take down incoming adds. Had to use one mana pot, a couple of heals + lay on hands, no bubble though. Took a while but no major difficulty...

My first kill I had a bit of trouble, I stopped on the FIRST set of stairs, and Sasha or whatever her name is came to "help" and by help she agro'd the 45 worgen he'd spawned up top.

I ran up in the corner, vanished (Shadowmeld) and they agro'd her, quickly killing her as she runs back down the steps - I pop out of SM and finish eating Arugal. I DID die to the rampaging worgen as they came back up the stairs, but it was worth it to see Sasha die after the little idiot pulled them on me. <.<

Bubbled then put both Vamp spells, SWPain, and DPlague on him and mind flayed. Used mind sear to destroy adds then redotted and kept mind flaying and bubbling. Had to use a health pot and shadow fiend. Almost died when large mob griup was summoned but got health back up with Vamp touch.

Well, these were all nice guides, but here is the Dirty Bastard Exploiter Guide for the classes that can't handle a billion adds ganking them:

Get on your flying mount, land on top of the parapet (the walls), and attack Arugal. He won't evade, as his spells can reach you, but when the adds spawn, they will just sit there and stare at you. There, easiest group quest ever.

Oh, of course you need to be level 77 and a ranged class. If the admins feel that this post is against wowhead rules (doesn't seem so), feel free to delete it.

Did this as a lvl 75 retadin. The majority of my gear is of rare quality.
None of the elites, Varlam, Selas and Goremax, should give you any problems.

For Arugal. You can kill the first adds (before fighting him) without aggro of Arugal.
LoS him as Yuashee says.
Just fighting Arugal, really shouldn't give you much trouble. Just use Art of War every time it's up. When he teleports, kill adds and LoS again. Fairly simple till phase 4.
Lots of adds during phase 4 and the girl doesn't really help much (except one shotting 1 worg).
Kill adds asap. Use bubble/LoH/Pot if needed. I, myself, had to use bubble during phase 4 and HP pot (LoH was still on cd). Had about 4k Hp left, when all the adds died (after bubble and HP pot). Still had to take care of Arugal, but he really doesn't pose much of a threat on his own.

Try to restore your mana during phase 3, so you have full/near full mana when you go into phase 4.

It's easy to solo for a ret paladin too,only when u fight against shade of Arugal use shadow resistance aura,and when he spawns adds just use ret aura again,when adds are dead use shadow resistance aura again and so on...

Soloed as a 76 prot paladin. The first three elites were laughably easy, but Arugal was somewhat harder. For him, I went in with Sanctuary and Seal of Vengeance on, but switched to Seal of Light when I was getting low on health. Divine Plea was enough to keep my mana pool up. I used Lay on Hands because I was too lazy to click off DP, bubble, and heal, then recast DP. Otherwise, I didn't have to bubble, and I didn't heal myself a single time besides LoH, unless you count seal/judgment of light.

very hard to solo as a blood spec DK. why? because i spec'd into bloodworms. when i got MC'd i proceeded to kill my worms, then arugal reset. i actually completed this when an ally draenei DK named Taedium stepped in and DPS'd arugal down during my MC, and then i reciprocated for her.

interesting note: if you do have a pet and are trying to solo this, it is a loop where he MC's you, you kill your pet and you start over(with the huge buff) and you can perpetually kill mobs for exp/drops. mostly the adds only dropped trash, but it is still vendorable. my first try around i ended up fighting for 15 minutes and the bodies just piled up. :)

Lvl 77 Blood DK. A walk in the park, as most things are to a DK while lvl'ing up. That is until I hit the Mind Control snag. Blood Worms are considered additional player, and he would MC me (always me) and reset to 100%. 10 adds or whatever...no problem. Hell, gained health while in that phase from the 4% heal through dmg. But the mind control made this impossible for me to solo.

Got lucky and has an additional player show up to 2-man Shade of Arugal.

Managed to solo and a 80 shad priest. greens/blues. i did the LoS trick for the fist half of the fight dotting then running down the stairs till he kicked over phases. when shara came by i fearbomed the adds, dotted arugal and ran a ways down again. got a second fearbomb off and managed to spam flash heal till aru died from my dots.

As a level 75 shadowpriest with sunwell gear, this was the hardest wotlk group quest to solo this far. I died the first time because I had the bad reflex to fear the adds. They are the difficulty of the fight (the boss himself doesn't do enough damage to be worrying if VE is up), along with mana conservation. I recommend shielding before they come, standing behind the stairs, and using mind sear until they are about to kill you. Then, jump down, heal, use crowd control and run up and down the stairs using any path that you can think of to keep some distance from as many mobs as possible. Mana might be a problem here. Health, probably not until you're OOM if you're doing things right. I ended up wanding the boss with renew up while the NPC was actually doing the job.

My very first try (before I actually died to the adds) was reset because I used shadowfiend at the wrong time and got mind controlled (I hadn't read wowhead :<) : use shadowfiend on phase 4, it's probably the best you can do. If you have mana issues, pop a potion, maybe an elixir if you have some, and don't waste mana until the adds are here. I think you can really go for a low mana cycle, using MB only when replenishment is off, and mind flaying with VT and SWP (and VE) the rest of the time.

You must first aquire Mikhails Journal and complete the quest before you can do any of the quests involving Ruuna the Blind or Sasha OR her little sister.

Solo as a 77 affliction loc but it was a good fight.

As others have posted the stairs are key, if your in LOS of arugal he will burn you down while you try to kill off the adds.

Send in VW and dot him up, he will stop after losing a bit of health and summon 3 adds. Pull them to the stairs with your VW. Once down you need to dps some more but when he stops again get yourself and your VW off the platform as he summons 10 adds. Sasha walks into the middle of them, but I still managed to get half of them even standing just at the stairs. As I was fighting adds Arugal started to hit me with shadowbolts. Ouch.....

Ran into the stairs out of LOS and dotted up the adds, my VW was up top with Sasha and died mid fight. Arugal pinned me at the top of the stairwell with like 3 adds and I died, lost aggro on adds, and used my soulstone. Arugal and I were at like 5% and it took everything I had to down him with very little health left.

My mistake was probably not being in the stairwell with my VW when sasha appeared? Also, I should have been out been out of LOS better. Anyway, it can be soloed once you get the fight down and I had soloed it before on my DK so I knew what to expect but the fight is trickier with a lock.

This is an extremely hard fight to do as a warrior. At lvl 77 as prot the fight took me 4 minutes 42 seconds, and at the end I had 1000 hp left, and all cooldowns gone. The key and only way you're gonna have a chance at this is to use the stairway to LoS him. When Sasha arrives, she will indeed pull the whole group of mobs to you, far as I could tell there's nothing you can do about it.

I wasn't sure I could solo this as a 77 Demo lock, due to what people were saying about MC's and pets. Gave it a go anyways, and as I was waiting for threat and dots to slowly eat his health, I figured maybe if I drained his mana he wouldn't MC me at p3. And lo and behold, I get into p3 and all he does is throw up a shield and stand there. No MC's, no adds, just a shield as he says "Get them!". So if you're a lock having trouble with the MC's, just drain his mana. Your biggest problem with this fight will be handling the adds, which isn't that hard anyways. Hope this'll be of some use.

This quest is a good nostalgia trip. It brings level 70+ players back to one of the first the dungeons they cut their teeth on: SFK.

I made the mistake of not killing Arugal last since me and my group missed Goreshade, hidden in the tower's stable. When I realized Sasha had disappeared, I wondered what to do next. Since a lot of this quest line is phased, I wondered if Sasha would still spawn near Solstice Village. Rather than abandoning the quest, I noticed a fellow Horde player trying to do it. I quickly convinced my group to help him, and we killed the NPCs (again) in order to make sure he didn't go through the same problem I did. It was soon his turn to down Arugal and finish his quest, spawning Sasha and allowing me it in for myself.

Sometimes, the best solution to your own problems is helping someone else with theirs.

Just a heads up to those who do this quest in a group with a tank pet of some sort. TURN TAUNT OFF! If you don't, Sasha will not get the aggro she needs to continue the quest if your pet taunts the boss, resulting in a full health reset and incompletion of the quest when Arugal hits 1/4 health. This wasn't too hard for me and my elemental shaman friend, both 75, but we had to kill him multiple times before we figured out what was happening.

solo as 76 Retadin. I cleared out the mobs on right side of stair. I stayed as far right on steps as i could and LOS. He was a fairly easy fight. I had to use a mana pot and bubble heal once.

I had Projection Shadow Aura on. Used Seal and Judgment of Wisdom to keep my mana up. I popped AoW every time to keep my health up. I also did Holy Light when he was casting Shadow Bolt. Never did have to use LoH.

Phase One was hardest as i got used to his Damage. When he summoned adds i focused on the adds first then continued with Argual.

Phase 2: When the adds is coming just use Consecration, heal urself with instant heals and keep dpsing.
Phase 3: Mind control was np since i soloed.

This quest if freaking *!@#ing me off, there's no way for me to solo it. I tried it without the pet like everyone says, he MC's and I get forced out of combat and have to start over. Tried it WITH pet, still, pet dies, I get MC'd and have to start over. Is this a bug? Why does this keep happening? I'm a 78 Unholy DK with pet and such, and my offspec is Blood. You're all going to smack yourselves in the head when you read how I did it.

If you're using the method to stand on the parapet and blast away at Arugal, you may find that even DESPITE being able to hit you, Arugal will still sometimes try to path to you, fail, evade, and reset. Annoying to say the least.

Turns out that you can easily maintain aggro throughout all phases, if you're a BM Hunter.

First off, someone has mentioned landing on the parapets, and nuking Arugal. Continue to do this.

The second part of it, is using Eyes of the Beast, and using it to move your pet down to beat on Arugal. Your pet won't move down there by himself if you command it to attack, so this will get your pet to hold aggro like it normally does.

That's it. Once your pet is in position, it becomes your standard Tank and Spank. I will confess, it may be easier with certain kinds of Tenacity pets than others; my bear was not able to withstand the cumulative adds from all of Arugal's phases long enough for me to grind them all down *and* turn in the quest there. A turtle, or perhaps a crocolisk may succeed in this department.

Imagine! Eyes of the Beast actually being useful!

Added 10-1-09: After performing the feat again to demonstrate to a friend, yes, a turtle is sufficient to survive the cumulative adds. Also, it would appear that this method is also significantly more resistant to being reset by Sasha adding to the fight.

was able to solo him as lvl 74 enhance shaman.

is all a matter of saving your pets untill after the mind control.

for phase 1: just hit hard, and save 5xmaelstrom for quick heals. every 2 shadowbolts I used an isntant heal from the maeltrom weapon.

for phase 2: just used a trinket and shamanistic rage. and then just 5x maelstrom with chain lightning, the beutifull windfury triple crits downed the 3 adds fairly quick.

Phase 3, well, I'm not 100% sure about this, but, if u're the only member in his aggro list, he doesn't use mind control, and here is what I'm not sure about, totems may generate a bit of aggro, so when he hit 55% I pulled the totems untill he was at 45% and then I replanted them again.

Phase 4: here is where I used all the big guns, my other trinket, shamanistic rage wich was already off cooldown, blood fury, feral spirits, bloodlust, and fire elemental totem. this made sure all the adds died INCREDIBLY fast.

use the taunt of the wolves to make sure neither u or the flame elemental die too quickly (and to a lesser effect to make sure sasha isn't instantgibbed either)

Phase 5: by this pahse I still had about 15 secs of both the wolves and bloodlust, so all DPS went to arugal, he burned faster than an old news paper.

personally I love what blizz did to this amazing boss, now if only they could had done the same for van-cleef........

oh well, cataclysm will give vancleef the respect he deserves. heroic Deadmines FTW

Just completed it as 78 ret pala.

Started out with SoR, and ended up with SoW and judging wisdom.
Only challenge was to keep mana up to heal through the adds.

Divine Storm and Consecration took care of the adds. Atleast with some time.
Kept focus on the shade.

With SoW and judging wisdom this should be a breeze for any ret pala out there with the 78 res gear.

Solo'ed this as a 77 ele shaman. The trick, as mentioned above, is to stay out of aggro range when he spawns the adds.

Stand in the right corner (if you are facing him) of the roof, and clear the mobs on the lower right level of the area (i.e. those that are on the floor, not on the stairs or the platform where Arugal is standing). Only clear those at the right side. If you don't kill those close to Arugal himself you won't aggro him.

Inch forward from the corner until lightning bolt is in range (~36 yards). This puts you in range of his shadowbolts as well, so when you start the fight, you will both be shooting lightning and shadow at each other for the first phase. Flame shock and lava burst should be in range too. This phase should be easy enough to heal through, and you won't aggro the mobs at the side of him.

When he first goes into phase 2, just stop shooting lightning bolts and heal/regen mana for a while. STAY WHERE YOU ARE. Everyone will just chill for a while until his shield drops off, and the adds will not aggro and will despawn after he is attackable again. Then it goes back to phase one.

When he goes into phase 2 the second time, it is when things get a little different. You Must be ready to backpedal when he pops his shield. He spawns more adds this time and from where you are standing at the start, you will aggro the adds. Just move back into the corner and wait. You can't attack him anyway. Stay out of range until his shield drops off and the adds de-spawn, and move back to phase one position.

Its important to stay in range of his shadowbolts, because then he will not move from his original spot, and won't pull any adds along with him if he tries to get you in range. Watch his cast bar and get ready to move if he pops his shield. He won't MC as there's only you.

When Sasha comes to "help" sometime during the second phase 2, she will appear from the left corner of the roof. This is why you only clear the mobs at the right side in the beginning. She will rush forward, and immediately aggro one of those wolfmen kneeling before Arugal at the start. If you had killed all of them at the start, she will rush toward Arugal, and most likely aggro all the spawned adds, which will kill you. She has low damage, and there will be time for you to finish off Arugal before she kills her first mob.

I only got killed once (didn't know you had to move back during the second phase 2). Second try was a breeze. Good luck.

Just soloed this as an enhance shamy, heres how I did it:
Used water shield for extra mana for heals. Strength of the earth totem+cleansing totem(disease)+windfury totem+flame tongue totem (1st phase)
From 100% to 65% I tried to save as many CDs as possible and used a healing pot every single time i had 5 stacks of maelstrom weapon i would cast an instant healing wave.
At 65% SUMMON YOUR WOLVES and use their taunt, get him to 60% before that taunt expires AND HE WONT MC YOU (tested twice) he will stare at your wolves till his immunity is gone, just before he becomes attackable use your earth elemental totem.
He will then summon lots of worgens (I bloodlusted at this point) , your earth elemental will pick them up and then you use magma totem, kill those worgens quick and go back to hitting arugal, he will be dead really quick.

I may be stating the obvious here but, if you are a Blood DK that has points in Bloodworms, it will be pretty much impossible to solo him because of his damn MCs and the resets that soon follow.

78 Orc DK. Killed Ragemane on the third attempt after significant armor & offense upgrades. Ursoc - LOL, killed on blood (used Blood fury twice but ghoul wasn't ready for a second use, so figure the fight was between 2 & 3 minutes, based on cooldowns).

Killed the first 3 in this Q without drawing a sweat.

I tried the end boss once (I did this Q in the past with an 80 NE BM Hunter, with arena season 5 gear - I do a little PvP :), so I knew much of what would happen. Not even close as a Hunter or as this DK.

This is a BAD QUEST. The balance of difficulty/rewards mean this quest is NOT WORTH DOING. I abandoned it without any qualms. I can solo most 3-man group quests, even if I wait to about 3-5 levels. Bu I don't enjoy doing this one & won't.

Before Arugal reached 50% i dropped my ghoul, which continued attacking Arugal for the
time I was mind-controlled.
After the mindcontrol expired i was free to bring him down.

I easily killed the big spawn by using DnD, spread diseases and Blood Boil.

Just as a side note, as of 3.2 I'm not sure this is easily soloable. I'd get him to around 50%ish (lvl 75 blood dk in frost presence) Then he'd charm me, and we'd leave combat, resetting his health. Someone may've posted this before. I just grabbed another dk and chains-of-iced him when the cc happened and then we finished it out, easy enough :)

I tried Arugal (solo) as a lvl 80 blood/frost DK. It is easy if you have Improved Rune Tap. Spam Rune tap and every once and a while pop Mark Of Blood on Arugal. Empower Rune weapon is your friend! you can have an unruned weapon and still use it to generate the Runic Power or the rune CD gone.

Soloed easily with a 76 BE Prot Pally with 18.7k health.
I used Blessing of Sanctuary, Shadow Protection aura and Seal of Wisdom.
Switched back and forth between Judgement of Light and Judgement of Wisdom, as needed.
Hammer of the Righteous, Shield of Righteousness, Exorcism and Holy Shield every time the cooldowns were up.
When the adds spawn, I switched to them and used Consecrate, Holy Shield, Judgement of Light, Hammer of the Righteous.
Gives you full mana in like 2 secs with that many mobs.
After the adds, cast a couple Holy Lights, switch back to Arugal and repeat.

Managed to solo this as a lvl 79 shadow priest.

Step 1 - kill all the adds surrounding Arugal. Most likely you will pull Arugal when you engage the last add, if so put 3 DoTs on the add, pop all trinkets and DoT Arugal as well and starte Mind Blasting and Mind Flaying him. Make sure you keep Inner Fire and Divine Shield up as much as you can.

Step 2. Just tank Arugal and keep up the DPS. Soon he will teleport back to his original spot, when he does this 3 adds will appear. DoT them up and kill them quick. As soon as they die DoT Arugal up and pop your other trinket and run down the stairs but make sure you at least do some new DPS to him on the stairs. Now run out onto the wooden platform and he will follow you. Just stand and tank him here. Make sure your DoTs are up at all time. After a while he will teleport back up stairs and spawn about 10 adds.

Step 3 - Run back up and send your shadow fiend into the adds. They should all aggro onto that. Now you need to nuke Arugal quick. Pop trinket and keep up all DoTs. Eventually the adds will all aggro onto you. When they do fear them and keep nuking Arugal. This is important as soon as you fear the adds apply new DoTs even if they are not run out. When the adds get out of fear and back to you this is when you pop dispersion. Hopefully when this runs out your fear will be off cooldown so you can fear adds again. Just nuke Arugal and as soon as he dies run back down stairs and jump of and hit levitate.

Note - keep your buffs up at all times especially inner fire and shadow protection, pop shield every 15 seconds. You may also want to get as many buffs on yourself as possible by using pots and food.

Not an easy fight but it is doable.

Just soloed as a lvl 76 BM hunter in BoA/quest/instance blues. I had Glyph of Mending. Key here is to dps Arugal slowly because you dont wont him hitting you with 1k shadowbolts. When he spawns adds wait for pet (in my case bear) to pick them up wait 2nd thunderclap then just aoe them with explosive trap and volley. If you get aggro just FD or kite them around with frost trap. Keep an eye on your pets hp all the time. Easy fight. Good luck.

Interesting little battle to solo as a level 74 Protection Paladin. Pretty much as described by the other classes above. LoS him to the stairs and have at it. I took a fairly slow and safe route. When I'm just fighting him, alternated between Holy Shield and Judgement of Wisdom to keep the mana up (had Divine Plea up as well) and shadow resist aura. When he spawned the first set of adds, pulled then to the stairs, dropped consecration until they died while keeping DPS on Arugal.

When he spawned the 2nd set (whom Shasha then proceeds to pull, switched to Retribution Aura, laid down another consecration and kept Holy Shield up while watching all the pretty yellow damage numbers go floating up my screen. Wasn't even aware of when Arugal came back into the fray given all the clutter otherwise happening.

Took 2 bandage breaks by popping Divine Shield. Allowed me a nice uninterrupted interval to bandage and regen more mana. All in all, a fairly long fight, but simple in the end.

So I've come up with a way to solo this quest as a 77 Shadow Priest. First off, ignore the cultists around him. He doesn't socially aggro them. Pull him with DoTs and just get him into P2. Kill the three adds that just barely spawned, as they will also not socially aggro. Then, LoS him back to the stairs, and burn him down until he's ~60k. At this point, pop your Shadowfiend, then burn him into P3. He'll instantly MC you, your Shadowfiend will despawn eventually, and he'll reset. The awesome part is, you get this "debuff" that restores 2% health and mana per second. This makes it nearly impossible to go OOM, and also gives you a lot of healing.

Engage him again, and then just repeat as before, but don't use your fiend. Let Sasha come and shoot an add, then DoT up as many of the aggroed ones as you can, throw up Renew, and Holy Nova. Make sure you're using Power World: Shield every cooldown, and Psychic Scream them all as well. Burn down a few during the scream and you're golden. Probably super easy with Glyph of Holy Nova.

Easy soloable as a 73 Shadow Priest, well, in a way.

Kill His adds before engaging Him, keep atleast 75% mana up. When you pull Him or the opposite, run downwards the stairs, Shadow Protection + PW: Shield and Shadowform should be enough to keep yourself at full HP all time, the only problem is Mana, which isn't that much of a problem, for me atleast, keep using your usual rotation against Him.

Somewhere at 75% He teleports at the circle you first engaged Him in, stay at the stairs, time is your only enemy here, He will eventually come back. Continue with everything.

Now, at 65%, it allways gets me, He MC's me and Game Over, He resets, even if I summon Shadowfiend it is allways me who is MCed, so further than this I haven't got. If you find a way to get trough this without getting another player, good luck!

Soloed as a 75 death knight in various quest greens and blues.

- my spec is blood
- used frost presence
- used Orca stew (+30 CR, +30 Stam) as food
- did not need pots.
- I had about 14.5k health

First, i cleaned out all the cultists around Argual, then ran up and attacked him.

He attacks slowly and doesn't do much damage, occasionally he will cast 2-3 shadowbolts in succession. as mentioned before, this is a good time for AMS. at 75%(?) he will summon a few adds, dot them up and cut them down. After they are dead (if you are Bloodworm specced) summon your ghoul. the reason as stated above, he will MC you and you will kill your worms. then Argual will reset. Obnoxious.

While you are MCed you will smack your ghoul around and hopefully not kill him before the MC is over. After that, keep wailing on Argual, keeping yourself topped off using death strike. He then will summon a crapload of mobs. But fret not. This is a good time for Icebound Fortitude Dot them up (pestilence) and keep heart/death striking. Use Rune Tap if needed. At some point Sasha spawns and runs around, but by then Argual should be pretty much dead.

I was very surprised how easy this was.

Two-player'd with a 73 feral tank druid in slightly above average gear and an 80 hunter in mostly quest blues.

It was a little frantic but not too tough. The hunter had their pet on Arugal almost the whole time (was a cat pet) while I tanked the mobs in bear form. For whatever reason, the second time he went immune, he didn't call any mobs. He never MCed either of us, and when the huge wave of adds came, I tanked them while the hunter helped me burn them down. Berserk + Mangle/Swipe spam finished them off since I had practically unlimited rage, and by that time Arugal was a goner.

The other three bosses were pushovers.

Right, so, here is my experience:

I soloed this quest as a 76 Demonology Warlock, with a flimsy spec thrown together without previous knowledge of the tree, in heirloom/greens/couple dungeon blues. I won't say it's easy, but if you know what's gonna happen it's fairly simple :)

The lieutenants
Faceroll, just kill them and don't bother thinking. Felguard in, Metamorphosis, trinkets if you have them, nuke, dead.

The Shade
He starts surrounded by adds. Those are pullable without him aggroing - clear them out, they would be messy during the fight. We don't want that.
Then engage. Take it easy, just throw Corruption and Immolate on, don't go crazy, save Metamorphosis for later. Keep the pet upped, save mana. Eventually, without any sweat on your part, he will summon 3 adds - gather them on your Felguard, kill. This will take a chunk off of your health and mana, you'll just have to deal with it. Then continue whittling him, get as much mana and health back - without using potions, healthstones or cooldowns, mind you! He will phase at one point, stop attacking you - time to bandage, health funnel, what have you.
Now the hard part. At 25% health or so (I might be off here) he will summon like 10 adds AND stay active shadowbolting you. That's a real bummer and exactly what you've been saving all cooldowns for. Felguard them, Cleave, pop Metamorphosis, Shadow Cleave, Immolation aura, trinkets, Seed of Corruption, healthstone, health pot, whatever. Just throw everything at them and they will die.
Now it's just the boss and you again, reeeally easy, just finish him off, he won't surprise you with anything.

And that's it! :)

When it's just you and your minion, he won't mind control anyone or anything, just do the phasing out and add summoning. As long as you can deal with the second batch of adds by saving cooldowns, you'll be fine :)

I was easily able to solo this with my 75 unholy tank spec deathknight...
It wasnt too terribly difficult as i was keeping my Blood Plague and Frost Fever up, when ever i needed a heal i simply hit deathstrike.
all and all all i really had to do was keep my self buffs and diseases up and running and all four of them went down like a sack of bricks.
But yeah this quest is not solo'able by a mage you'd need a tank and healer more then likely

soloed as lvl 73 prot pala, took long but pretty easy.
The shade was quite tricky, since i didnt cast consecration. U'll have some mana issues otherwise.
Kept Divine Plea up all the time, and tanked the shade so Sasha was able to hit his back.
I used seal of Light + judgmnt. of Light all the time.
Ardent Defender saved my life twice, but it was not a big deal, couldve used bubble or Lay on Hands instead.
my euqip was blueish, and even partly green.

Solo'd this as a 75 Frost Mage.

The lieutenants are immune to frost nova, but can still be Deep Freezed when Fingers of Frost procs. Simply clear some of the mobs in the surrounding area so that you can kite them around.

For Argul, Ice Barrier and Dampen Magic are more than enough to absorb Shadow Bolt damage. Simply Frost Nova the adds and take them out with Blizzard. Glyph of Eternal Water is a must, otherwise you'll just end up getting Mind Controlled and resetting him. When MCed, he'll attack your elemental, but you won't (My elemental didn't die, but if he did, I bet the encounter would reset, so be sure your elemental is at full health). He's immune to stuns, so Deep Freeze when possible (I was critting him for around 11k).

I didn't have to heal or use Ice Block the entire fight. Though if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably use Ice Block to get out of the Mind Control.

I was really disappointed to find out that when I solo'd him down I only got 2.1k xp whereas Ursoc gave me 31k. This guy was way harder to solo.

This one was a hard one to solo as shadowpriest mainly because you run out of mana, i tried two methods, one included popping shadowfiend right before the MC phase in order to receive the Worgens Blood buff, while this worked and i had the mana to dot all the adds up and stay alive, he did of course reset so i forgot quickly about that one.

The other included extremely carefull CD management and timing of phases.

The way i did it was:

Make sure you all the non-elite mobs around him are spawned before you kill them, otherwise they will appear mid fight.
Clear them, put up all your buffs including shadowresistance and power word: shield. Drink up and start by putting up Vampiric Touch, Shadow Word: pain and dps using mind blast every 15 sec (due to replenishment this is most dmg/mana)
Somewhere around 80% of his hp put up all your dots and Disperse.
Then, once he enters phase 2 wait below the stairs for the adds to despawn.
Now you have to wait, use vampiric touch and mind blast each time you refresh the dot. Slightly before he is about to enter phase 3, just put up power word: shield on yourself and wait for Dispersion CD to come back.
Once you have dispersion again, mind flay him down to begin phase 3.
This part is the hard one, when Sasha comes up and pulls everything you wait on the other side of the stairs, gather up all mobs that does not aggro Sasha (usually 3-4) put up full dots on everyone or untill you are out of mana and then disperse.
The dots will kill the mobs and heal you to full, but since Sasha died you have 5-6 more mobs aggroing you.
Put up all dots on Arugal, pop shadowfiend and any trinket you have and aoe fear the mobs once they gather up around you and then burn him down before they come back and kill you.

Soloed it today as a SL/Felguard wasnt too bad. Make sure you have healthstones and pots and cooldowns up you will probably need them. Remember to call your pet back when he summons adds. The last wave almost killed me had to howl of terror and drain life tank with voidwalker sacrifice boss is easy dealing with the adds is the hard part. especially when they enrage

This quest is a bit tough for a hunter to solo. I only tried it once but the first adds that spawned were easy it was only 3 of them. The next set didnt spawn he just went immune for some amount of time. Then at around 50% he spawned at least 10 adds and my pet got beat down and then I died. I dont know if thats the way this is supossed to work or not but 10 adds + arugal shadow bolting my pet was just to much.

This was attempted on a 78 hunter and elites are usually not a problem. I am BM specced and had the glyph of mend pet for the added 40% healing and still couldnt heal my pet through all the adds. Arugal was easy enough its the adds that make this difficult. Maybe it just bugged on me because 10+ adds seemed like a bit many after the first wave was only 3.

They appear to have "fixed" the mind control -- it now works even if you're solo.

Which means that Arugal drops out of combat, because you're charmed, and resets to his full health. I have not found a way to keep that from happening.

Simple quest as a holy pally. The 3 little bosses were a breeze. I used blessing of Kings, seal of Wisdom, and Judgement of Light.

Arugal was pretty simple. The only difficulty was the adds. His first summon (3) was fine - just use consecrate, Ret Aura, Shield of Righteous, Judgement, and exorcism. I used FoL and Holy Shock to heal.

The second time he summons about 7 adds, so I swapped to concentration aura, lay down consecrate and basically jsut kept myself alive. Sasha comes to help here, although she doesn't do that much dps. Just remember to keep the adds on you (i.e. don't bubble) so you can turn in the quest easily after you kill him (don't want to risk her dying).

Either way, I didn't use any long cooldowns, or have panic moments.

I've done this on two toons, and didn't have a prob getting a group. Did 'em both Friday nite. Asked in /1 who's doing Hour of the Worg, and we set up a group in moments.

I solo'd this as a Lv77 prot pally with medium difficulty.

Keep Shadow Resistance Aura up, and when he spawns adds, kill all but 1-2 of them, and wait for his invincibility to wear off (you DON'T have to kill ALL of the adds for his invincibility to wear off!).

You want to keep them up, to get mana back faster, for more heals. Slowly wear him down, heal yourself as necessary. Avoid using hammer and consecrate if you want 1-2 adds for your mana, you don't want them dying too fast. If he spawns the huge load of adds, that means Sasha's coming, burn all but one or two of em down, pop your divine shield here if you need.

I didn't need any potions for the whole fight, really.

He's got 106k HP, it takes awhile to burn him down but it is possible.

I had a hell of a time finding where this one started, but finally traced it back to one of the first quests you get in Grizzly Hills. Here's an overview of the entire chain (Alliance side only; haven't done it on Horde):

The very first quest in the chain is Local Support from Lieutenant Dumont at Amberpine Lodge. That sub-chain takes you to Silverbrook, where there is another short series of quests.
Escape from Silverbrook eventually takes you back to Lt. Dumont, who then sends you to Forest's Edge Post for A Swift Response. One of the mobs there ought to drop Mikhail's Journal (I got it my very first kill; if you don't have it by time you finish the quest, kill a few more). I am not sure if you have to have done the preceding quests in order to get the journal to drop; if not, you could start the chain at this point, although you lose out a bit on the story of it.
The journal gives you Descent Into Darkness, which takes you back to Lt. Dumont again. He'll send you on to Westfall Brigade Encampment in northeast Grizzly Hills, where you'll do another couple quests at a nearby mine. The last quest, A Name From The Past has you return to Cpt. Gryan Stoutmantle at the encampment. This appears to be the end of the chain, but after you turn it in it opens up the quest Runna the Blind from Private Arun, who is standing nearby.
Runna is just on the south side of the tunnel through the enormous fallen tree at Vordrassil Pass. After you do a couple easy quests for her, she sends you to look for Sasha at the White Pine Trading Post (Fate and Coincidence).
Sasha has you do Sasha's Hunt and Anatoly Will Talk. Once you have done both of those, you get A Sister's Pledge, which is the direct prerequisite for Hour of the Worg.

None of the quests leading up to this are particularly difficult, but the chain itself is hard to find if come at it from the back end like I did.

Two of the three lieutenants you are supposed to kill, Selas and Varlam, are just off the path as you go up the hill to the tower. The third, Goremaw, is under the tower in the stables, which you reach by going around behind it. Be sure and kill them before going up the tower if you can (not necessary, but allows you to turn in to Sasha immediatley after the fight if you're successful since she shows up to help).

The fight with Arugal is tough, but soloable if you can heal yourself and take on multiple adds at once. Personally, I don't think I'd attempt it without a pally or dk (did it with a 75 blood dk; died once, then got it my second try). Arugal spawns a couple adds shortly after the fight begins, and then another 3-4 a little while later. Around 1/2 health he mind controls (maybe just with groups or if you have a pet up), which is nice if your soloing with a dk and have your zombie up, because it heals you to 100% and maxes your runic power. A little further in, at about 1/3 or 1/4 health, is the really tough part, where Arugal spawns a buttload of adds -- I would guess about 15 or so, but didn't exactly have a chance to count. If you can survive the big wave of adds, the fight is pretty much over and you can just dps Arugal down with no more surprises.

Soloed at 78 with moderate difficulty as a ret pally with mostly level 78 blues 16k hp/12.3k armor. The 3 before Arugal were easy, Arugal was a pain though. He's immune to any form of stun or silence, and becomes invincible for a short time when he summons his adds.

Arugal is not easy to solo because when the npc comes to help you, there is a pack of worgens jumping on you. I managed to kill it on a level 75 frost DK with heirlooms by killing 1 by 1 the npcs around Arugal, then pulling Argular down the tower at a place he was LOS from me so he'd come to me.

When the Worgens spawned, I had enough time to bandage and kill them before Arugal came back making this possible, but still rough.

She despawns after 1 min or so. So if you didnt turn in the quest yet by then, you can go back to 57,41 next to the small tower northwest of Camp Oneqwah. The quest itself isnt hard if you have a tank, heal and dd, but if you dont have such a setup it surely can be tough. He overtakes some player, I didnt recall if we let it run out or attacked the player, but if you have a heal it should be good either way.

its possible to solo as hunter, just keep pet alive. it bugged for me mindcontrol phase, instead 3 times huge amount of ads. 3 then 5 then 7 spawned and in midcontroll phase, as it should be, its just immune, cant hit him, untill debuff runs out and dps on. maybe its buf not sure. didnt worked when tried with warrior same quest.

75 Frost Mage solo. 9khp, 10k mana - all WotLK quest greens. My experience was completely opposite from the other mage post. Barrier + Dampen was definitely NOT enough to soak the shadow bolts.

Lieutenants
Can't be rooted but can be slowed. Fairly straightforward to just kite them up and down the hill.

Arugal
Prep
Glyph of Evocation is mandatory. Don't use water elemental glyph - the normal frost tree duration is plenty and the Nova is critical for add phase. Especially since you'll more than likely be dealing with respawns.

The 8ish mobs around him respawn really fast, under a minute I'd say. Clear them from left to right (facing him) and start the fight from the right side. Avoid getting hit when clearing them so you don't get the disease.

Begin
Stand as far away from him on the right side, open with Icy Veins with around 20 seconds left on Ice Barrier. 2 or 3 shadow bolts drop it so you'll want another one available. Pop the water elemental when he's at 90%.

During the fight
When the second Barrier drops, throw up Mana Shield and Evocate when you're around 40% hp. You'll get the full cast off and that'll take you back to full hp + mana. You can LOS his Shadow Bolts by kiting him down the stairs.

Mind Control
Happens at around 65% and you'll need the water ele out to prevent reset.

Don't break out of it if you're low on HP, it has a regen effect that will take you back to full hp. He will return to his spawn point if you kited him but will not reset nor attack your ele.

Adds
They will all aggro the quest NPC first. 2x Frost Nova and 2x Blizzard is enough to kill them. Use the pet's nova first to keep distance.

Finishing
I was out of mana at the end even after evoc + gem. I'd recommend a mana pot instead of healing potion since having Ice Barrier available is way more important.

I have the absolute bare minimum gear any mage would have just by questing to 75, so it's definitely possible.
