If you have some manner of staying underwater for a long time and any slight increase in swimming speed, I would say that these are a great grind for the Unidentified Plants. Also, if you have any form of AoE the grind is much much faster since they always come in groups of 4.

Mages can AoE grind these things for pretty good gold per hour. The vendor trash sells for ~1.75g a stack, the plant parts are very useful, and they're very easy to kill.

A frost mage can just ice barrier and use molten armor, collect about 20 fishes, 3x AE, and collect loot. I got 5g in about 5 minutes worth of killing, plus about 20 plant parts.

Oh how i love these little guys. Great for gold farming. In the camp right next to the lake, pick up https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=9845. It gives you 3 Pots of underwater breathing. DO NOT DO THE QUEST. Use the pots to farm these guys. They do hardly any damage and drop like flies. Respawn pretty quickly. They always come in groups of four. Im a 62 warrior so i just get Victory Rush after Victory Rush. I make 15g every 20 minutes or so.

For any priest with +300 spell dmg and rank 8+ Shadow Word: Pain grinding these is so simple. Just
use it on every fish u see. They will die only from the dmg it does. Easy peasy! bigger mana pool = Bigger pulls = more goodies

I believe that these guys are good for everything, xp, money and rep especially, if you are aiming for the Cenarion War Hippogryph.

But with the fights that I already had with them, these guys tend to get in and out of combat a lot, and lots of them are stuck inside the rocks, evading almost every atack. Maybe with a dpser, you might be able to kill these "evading ones", but because i'm a prot paladin, I wasn't able to test this out.

Great place to farm shards as a lock, even at 70. If I'm running an instance near here, I'll pop in to toss a dot on a few mobs and pull in a buttload of shards.

i've found it to be quite easy farming these guys as a 62 feral druid (with the underwater breathing pots). swipe spam is all it takes. i've only attempted up to four groups at a time (16 total mobs) but it was still quite easy and definitely survivable. netting about 50g/hour, 100 unidentified plants/hour, and a slow 32,000xp/hour unrested.

two annoyances, however:

- these buggers like to get all around you, including behind you, which can be quite annoying for meleeing. especially if you have 10+ attacking you and you're targeting the one that gets behind you.

- there are a good few packs in which one of the four are stuck in the ground. it seems that if you pull one of these packs, they have a high likelihood of the entire group evading out of the fight. worse yet, it seems that sometimes if you're fighting one of those groups along with other groups, they'll *all*evade back.

after reading all the comments here on farming these, i decided to give it a shot with my priest ! so i came up with the build. Fun times with holy nova =) and my priest being undead; i didnt really need the underwater pots and the time i need to catch my breath also solves the mana problem easily with DS and spirit tap :P its pointless, but fun.

a word of warning to anyone -not- intendeding to farm these little fellows, as mentioned a few comments above by Tatsuhakyan, they do have a tendancy to just bolt in the middle of a fight, and then return with a lot of friends, ( i'm personally not sure if it's intended, or if they suffer from some sort of evade bug, it looks sort of buggy, because they dont just run, they actually evade ) but then again, they are pirahnas after all :P

if you happen to be swimming through, or aiming to kill Mragesh or do something else in the water, be aware that if you're not paying some attention to these gits, they can, and will swarm you and eat your face, they might go down in a few shots only, but with enough of them, they can kill you :P

Farming these guys up as a 70 Demo warlock. Felgaurd on passive, i send him to a pack, then another then another while i agony on the other side, send him back, we have 10 packs. quick hellfire and bam 25+ guys dead. Great on drops for plants

As of 3.1 the drop rate for the Unidentified Plants has been greatly reduced.

Just killed about 35ish of them and got a total of 4 Unidentified Plants.

I spent the last 10 mins farming these at lvl 62. I walked out with 23 plants, and roughly 12g of junk. Yeah, drop rate is lowered, but these are still worth farming imo.

These fellas make aoe grinding easy. They come at you in swarms. I had to clear out about 15 before I could even resurface safely.

I'm a feral Druid and i can say it's really good place to farm Unidentified Plant Parts - I think I got about 40 parts in 30 minutes, not mentioning that because of "Love is in the Air" event, I have farmed about 60 Lovely Charms too (I'm level 66 at the time of writing this). 2-3 hour farm and you should get enough plants for Neutral -> Honored (and charms for whole week of Lovely Charm Bracelet quests to every horde/ally leader if you're reading it in "Love is in the Air" and fishes aren't gray to you)

As mentioned, clean your inventory (mailbox an alt, bank) before farming those - every fish drops grey item, which after some time of farming can give pretty nice gold. And obviously, cleaning your inventory makes you less likely fly to vendor and back.

When u engage them they usually attack in groups of 4. So if each one of them drops at least a Grime scale do the math. Thats 25 silver per encounter. Plus if your reppin CE I easily got at least 1 plants parts, usually i got 2 per fight. Farm these f'ers. If your a hunter this is pie.

These are extremely easy to kill for mages. Put up molten armor, pop a water breathing pot, and you can take on groups of unlimited size. I was swimming around aggroing 15-20 of them at once, no joke. A blast wave then a dragons breath kills most of them, follow up with a few arcane explosions if needed. I made about 20 gold in an hour or so.

I play a 63 warr (fury) so with my imp whirlwind i can take down a good 10 of theese at the same time. They have allmost no HP, good farming.. u kill 10, then kill 10 more, bandage, kill 10, kill 10 more, and so on.... Lots of gray for the vendor.

im farming these non.stop as a feral druid. My improved LoTP combined with esseince infused mushrom enables me to farm them witn no downtime at all. Since im an alchemist i also have aout 10 potions of greater water breathing. made about 15g in 20min.

These are very good for paladins to farm. I have a level 67 holy paladin and I can make a ton of money here. I can get a little more than 2 bars of xp per hour (I need to be rested though). I did 3 hours last night and in my best hour I got 48 gold in vendor trash, and about 20 gold worth of Unidentified Plant Parts... the other two hours got me about 30-40 gold in vendor trash. I ended the 3 hours with 300 unidentified plant parts that I sold for 60 gold.

GREAT! It is especially good for pallys because we have mana conservation seals, we can heal and can take a hit. Just pop consecration about 3 or so times and they are done for. I used a swim speed pot and fought 28 of them in one fight. It is a great way to farm, you get good XP and money. All together in the 3 hours, I got a little over 6 bars of XP... (as a level 67 farming level 63/62)

mages are fun to farm these guys with. I have a 65 UD mage so i just pop an ice barrier get 3 or 4 mobs (12-16 fish) and use a blast wave and an arcane explosion. I farmed these guys until i got honored with Cenarion at which point the Unidentified Plants cant be turned in anymore. But even then its worth it for the vendor trash and selling the plants in AH.

these fish are easy to make gold if you can use aoe. im a 70mage UD and i can jus lure like 3-4groups of them with ice lance and jus use arcane explosion to kill. takes about 2-3. i make bout 90-100g in about 1hour. best place to farm these are at the island jus right of coilfang resovoir. you can jus go around the island and kill the fish near and around the island. when u move in a counter or clockwise pattern the fish will respawn by the time u get back to your starting point.

Very good idea to train here... For some reason

1-Not bad xp -around 140 xp and easy to kill because they stand in group-

2- Give lots money fast so you can farm here maybe 30g/hour? Maybe more?

3- The Rep, yeah the most important reason is the rep... You get parts so fast for The reputation in Cenarion! Kill bunch of them to get exalted very fast (Maybe could take long but way less than doing other rep quest)

farmed them for 30 mins so far, I'm a 66 frost mage.

I collected :
286 grime-encrusted scales (25g)
100 unidentified plants parts (don't know yet, might AH them or use them)
about 15 gray vendor items for 50s-1g each
73 ripped fins (7g)

I recommend farming them for anyone who can AoE something, and maybe even those who can't.

Heres the way to make about 30g an hour if your a 63+ lock.
Send vw into about 3 groups of em but dont have your suffering on auto.
after you aggro them all,use the suffering.
go up to them and sack vw.hellfire away!

There are thousands of them in the lake, and they can be prone to devour careless noobs very fast. Avoid swimming in their lake.

Thanks for the ideas here all. I believe it's undead arcane mage for the win. Who needs water breathing potions? And it's 488 xp if you're on double bonus time, which is almost 4,000 xp if you kill two groups at a time.
