12 Nature Damage, every 3 seconds, and it stacks up to 5 times. Not sure on the duration, it's not listed on the debuff icon, and I've yet to see it die off.

Shield can be deadly to use in in a group near some of the higher end dungeons like shattered halls where you want your crowd control. IE: 6+ elite pulls sometimes. Its all good though just have your group redo crowd controll before it ends or be patient with them, or the poison effect will break it. I tend to break it alot always grabbin mobs that go outa CC :P.

The proc only occurs when you block an attack. If the pulls are done as they should be, a mob who is sapped wont be attacking you, and the sheep usually takes place either as the pull, or immediately, like a mili second after the pull.

My point being, yes, the proc would suck if you needed to sheep something and it was dotted, but if the sheep or the sap is done correctly, the mob shouldnt be heating you to begin with

DoT seems to be rather 12.5 damage every 3 sec, giving total of 50 damage. With a max of 5 debuffs on the target that's 20.82 DPS (excluding Defensive Stance modifier).

Very nice for prot Pallies as well as a decent PvP shield against Rogues.

The effect only works on a successful block. Quite often, as a level 62 protection paladin, I'm either unable to keep the full debuff active for very long or unable to make it fully stack on a single target. The irony being that by the time I have the gear to make my block chance sufficient this item will be obsolete. It is at it's most effective when combined with a shield spike while multi mob grinding.

Prot paladin using this shield to aoe. It's hard to make out on the youtube quality, but at the end he shows the swstats and the Spore Cloud from this shield does about 22% of consecration, the second highest of his damage sources, above blessing of sanc, normal melee, and like 4 times higher than the shield spike.

!!!WARNING!!! I used this shield as a tank (before I got a better one) and it was terrible in dungeons. The fungal spores break saps, sheeps, traps, and seductions if the enemy you are tanking is near by them. Be careful!!! If you use it as your main shield be sure to carry around another one to use in dungeons or team zones. If dungeons aren't your forte', slap a shield spike on this bad boy and get extra dps out of it. Besides the breaking of CC it's a good shield and is something unique. The turtle shell look will be sure to attract the females too.

If you are picking up this shield to aoe prot grind on a paladin, you may want to consider picking up a few of them, since your shield breaks long before your other gear, and you can just swap it out and keep killing without running off to repair.

The spores break CC'd enemies. Sheep, Sap, Seduced can and will be broken if the fungal spores hit the CC'd enemy. Found this out the hard way in Shadow Labs.

there are 3 tank shields available before 70. this is one. another is BOE. the third is from the first boss in mana tombs. i went for this because it was guaranteed.

i was tanking shadow lab with this (haven't checked AH for upgrades ever). if you pull, and your group doesn't CC the mobs before they reach you, they will get the dot and then be impossible to sheep for 12s. drives my groups CRAZY in pugs.

so, you might want to farm mana tombs or something instead, because this is not suited for instance tanking in PUGs.

As a Protection Paladin, I shall never get rid of this shield. It is by far the best AoE farming shield in the game, far better than Skullflame Shield.

When I first started leveling, I bought a Skullflame and really tried to like it. It was great at the level, but as I progressed it got worse and worse. At 70 you will have so much avoidance that the Drain Life/Flamestrike AoE will nearly never proc, and although I'm not sure if this is true, a lot of low level epics have been nerfed for level 70s (this was confirmed by a blue when questioned about Hand of Edward the Odd, https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=2243, source needed).

As far as the proc itself, it procs on EVERY block, and the DoT does 12 damage every 3 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. This is effected by one handed weapon spec, and does 63 damage per tick on a fully stacked DoT with 5/5.

The first thing you should do when you get this shield is grind out the mats for Felsteel Shield Spike (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=23530). The reflective damage caused when you first get the shield is equal to your Blessing of Sanctuary damage. It may seem expensive, but for a shield you're keeping forever, it's worth it.

Two items that this should absolutely be combined with are Figurine of the Colossus (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=27529) and Dabiri's Enigma (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=30300). FotC gives you 5% block alone, Dabiri's gives 18%. If you ever get low on life, use Holy Shield and both trinkets, and watch yourself healed to full, while getting 5x poison stacks on every target.

Edit: Found another use for this shield tonight: PvP vs Rogues/Warriors. As Protection, with 0 resilience, this shield, ret aura, holy shield, and blessing of sanc, I can easily kill S3 geared Arms warriors. They take nearly 500 damage every time I block.

This is a good shield for exp grinding up, but skullflame is imba on a pally that is farming massive numbers of mobs. The skullflame procs are affected by spelldamage, assuming you tank with a +500 spelldmg you are going to be healing yourself a good bit as well as doing decent damage from the procs.

And when you are in full Kara tanking gear, you are going to be missed/dodge/parry/block so much that Skullflame will never go off.
Skullflame Shield can ONLY proc on an attack that you actually receive damage. Miss, Parry, and Dodge do to proc it, and if you fully block and attack, it won't proc. As a level 70 tankadin, you're #1 goal is to make it so you CANNOT receive a normal attack. That means every attack is either missed, dodged, parried, or blocked. In raids, this prevents you from getting "crushed" (http://www.wowwiki.com/Crushing_blow), and while AoE grinding, that means that the number of procs off Skullflame drops down to... 20-25% chance to be normally hit, multiplied by a 1% proc rate... .25% chance to have it proc, or one in every 400 attacks.
Meanwhile, Petrified Lichen Guard is going to be procing non stop, and doing massive damage, even if the mobs run away from you.

Noticed no one mentione this but, this could be a decent shield for a shaman to use with the Diamond-Core Sledgemace
from Blood Furnace. Make life easier for a Elemental or Restoration shaman while leveling/grouping till you find a better shield.

(Disclaimer- I perfer using the 1h/shield over 2hStaff because of the survivability possibility (and once you get Wrath of Air, it'll make up for the lost dps from not using a staff))

Comparison with Force Reactive Disk:

Petrified Lichen Guard causes a DoT which causes 12 nature damage every 3 seconds and quickly stacks to 5. 12 * 5 / 3 = 20, so the end result of this is that every target beating on you is soon taking 20 DPS.

Force Reactive Disk causes an average of 30 nature damage to every target within 5 yards every time you block. The amount of blocking you'll be doing will vary depending on your block rating and the attack speed of the mobs attacking you, but generally, if you've got a big cloud of mobs in front of you, you can expect a near-constant stream of lightning out of your shield. The more mobs that are attacking you, the more damage per second each one will take (unlike the Lichen Guard, which does a constant amount of damage against every mob attacking you).

All of this is of course independent of any other reflective damage you may be doing. (Examples: Retribution Aura, Felsteel Shield Spike , Darkmoon Card: Vengeance, etc.)

For killing lots of mobs very quickly, the Force Reactive Disk is the clear winner for as long as it lasts, especially against mobs that die quickly and therefore won't have time for the DoT to stack. You get about 240 blocks out of it before it's time for a trip to the repairman. If you're swimming in cash, get a second one made. Keep the Lichen Guard in your bags for regular use and switch to the Disk when you want a big DPS burst. (If you're tanking a single tough creature, such as a boss, the Lichen Guard is better both for its DoT and for its armor, block rating, and stamina, but you should probably be using a "normal" shield for that anyway.)

Summary: The Force Reactive Disk is the best shield in the game for quickly burning down large groups of mobs, but if you're not in a guild that remembers Molten Core, you may have significant trouble getting one made, and you must be an engineer to equip the Disk. In any case, you'll want a Lichen Guard to switch to when the Disk runs out of durability. I highly recommend that anyone who can get both.

Not sure if this has been done anywhere else, but as far as trying to stack block rating, here's a list of some easy-to-get items (also, you can find these by searching wowhead with this filter on:Block Rating, and then filtering more by quality):

Nexus Guard Pauldrons: 17 = ~2.53%
Andormu's Tear: 15 = ~2.34%
Dauntless Handguards: 25 = ~3.72%
Figurine of the Colossus: 32 = ~4.06%
Ironscale War Cloak: 19 = ~2.41%
Jade-Skull Breastplate: 23 = ~2.92%
Sha'tari Vindicator's Waistguard: 24 = ~3.57
Steam-Hinge Chain of Valor: 19 = ~2.69%
Faceguard of Determination: 24 = ~3.04%

Totals should be: 198 SBR = ~27.28% chance to block

Note: I know there are a bunch of other items that have block rating (most notable one I can think of is this one, but I'm guessing that filling the other spots with sp damage items would help round out this "block rating set".

Hi, now I'm no expert on this. But a warrior can aoe! Yes it's true! We can aoe!(oh well, maybe not aoe. But we can let the creeps kill them self in almost the same way as a pally )

We can maybe not kill 70 creeps at once. But we can take 10-15 with karazhan epic and this shield with a shield spike. I have tested this outside of BT, it did nicely.

My old warrior CL from an other guild was able to kill the hole spot ( at least that was what she told me ) in one pull. With furies deck (forgot trinkets name), Figurine of the Colossus and the shield.
She was SSC/TK geared tho.

this item is still a great paladin AOE grinding shield due to the poison dot it gives to all attackers. I found that using this (equipped with a thorium spike) after my lvl 70 shield broke (equipped with a titanium spike) my AOE packs were being killed 15-20 seconds faster.

Titanium shield spike (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=42500) is attachable to this through trade by someone, who is level 70 or higher, in case if you are below 70 yourself.

Great shield, and very easy to get - I just did the repeatable quests the Sporeggar NPCs give, and did one run into Underbog, and I had it in no time. Well worth the effort to get, and the poison thing is cool - adds that extra little bit of punch to get the mob really ticked at you.

Lookswise, it's identical to its icon.

Seems to be affected by +spell damage. Since it sure as hell aint dealing what the debuff says, but instead a wee lil more.

But this is definetly a great prot pala grind shield, I'm not sure if this is the choice for instances, but while soloing, this beats the hell out of any Shield of the Void and stuff like that, simply because the debuff deals much more than any ol' shield spike you can get on it. With a lil luck, it stacks five times and deals a dandy 60 every 3 seconds for 12 seconds. You do the maths.

Plus: this is lollishly easy to get.

The poison is a debuff that does 12 damage every 3 seconds and stacks up to five times. I think it lasts about 10 seconds before fading if you don't reapply, but that really doesn't make much sense if the damage is every 3 seconds. Each block resets the counter, of course. Need to get someone to duel me to get the exact duration, I guess.

This shield is fantastic on paper, but there are some problems.

The damage is great! It inflicts a 12 second poison that deals 12 damage, and that can stack up to 5 times.

The downside of it being a stackable dot is...it's rather uncontrollable. You wouldnt want to use it in any pulls that require CC.

I used the Shield for my Prot Pally.

All it cost is a few glow caps and it's well worth it until you find something better that suits your needs.

IMO, good shield until you get something better.

I used a 70 rogue alt to farm tons of Sporeggar rep items so my prot pally could get this as soon as he turned 62. So I got a lot of bog lord tendrils and mature spore sacs to get me to friendly. Then I did some stealth runs through Underbog for sanguine hibiscus (its really easy, hes not even stealth specced and get gets about 15 per run through, which doesnt take long per run). Unfortunetly I found out that you cant turn in sanguine hibiscus for rep till you are 63, since the turn in NPC has the grey ! above his head.

Anyway, I just thought it was a little odd that the shield is level 62, but the only things you can do to get the 6000 rep needed to go from friendly to honored at 62 are...

1) Kill bog lords for 15 rep per kill, so you would need to kill a total of 400.

2) Do the fertile spores repeatable quest, in which you turn in 10 spores for 750, but they only have about a 1/3 drop rate, so you would need to kill around 240 greater spore bats.

3) Do the naga killing repeatable quest, in which you kill 24 naga for 750 rep, so you would need to kill 192.

So unless you consider going through the above grinds worthwhile, ignore the item description that says "Requires Level 62", its really 63.

Sigh, guess I gotta wait one more level to get my "best prot pally AOE grinding shield in the game" shield. I've even already got the mats for a felsteel shield spike.

I got this shield as soon as I hit 62 (I did the rep quests at 61, and had an AoE group of 4 70s + me slaughtering bog lords for 1.5 hours). I'm a prot pally, and me love it long time!

My favorite thing about it is rogues.... lol rogues... they start beating on me from no where, I tank them to like 30-40% hp after I lose like 5-15%, then they try to sprint with justice judged on them and I just pound them as they run, then they vanish and 1-2 seconds later it breaks due to the poison proc on the shield... muwahahaha

stupid rogues.

Ran with this shield all day long as Prot paladin. Total damage per dungeon is roughly 3-4%.
While it is still certain amount of extra threat and damage, I don't know if its worth sacrificing defensive stats from, as an example, Shield of the Void. However, I'd image this extra damage is super valuable to protection warriors, as Prot paladins Righteous Fury amplifies Holy damage only.

But given that this is available at level 62 and takes mere hour or 2 to obtain, every tank should probably get it ones they make their way out of Hellfire.

nobody should be using this, skullflame or force reactive disk to aoe farm, it cannot do more than 5% of your total damage, a shield with more armor and block value will be guaranteed to be worth more, even a shield with spell power will be better, as 90% or more of your damage will always come from consecration, pally aoe farm=consecration damage
