Of course, the hardest part about this is the enemy territory. Although it is relatively simple for alliance to get into most of the Horde starting areas, the Draenei starting zone was a bit of a pain. Just a note: Make sure you have all the locations listed under each zone. Some of them aren't linked to showing a portion of the map, so you can have the whole map revealed and still be missing one. If you have discovered it, you will be able to mouse-over it in the World Map and see the label come up at the top.

You don't need to enter enemy cities, only discover them. Basically, you have to run across the entrance. Of course, the thought of killing enemies within their own capital may be too tempting to resist :).

I get the feeling that this achievement will mean a lot more raids on opposing capitol cities. I can see it now... "LFM for SW/IF/Darnassus/Exodar raid for World Explorer. PST". It'll be fun. :-D

As a 70, the Draenei zone is easy - just get on a boat from darkshore, run past the guards (they're too low level to be more than a nuisance) and get on the west boat. It'll deposit you right outside the exodar, and you can wander around to your heart's content.

The real pain is the teldrassil one - you need to run through Darnassus, and I guarantee you'll die at least once. Remember to take off all your armor so you don't get durability loss, and try to find a friendly shaman for water walking - it makes it easier to run through.

There are a total of 73 zones to be explored (including Northrend)

73 Zones, 10 points for every zone = 73x10 = 730 points
Explore Kalimdor = 25

So by getting this achievement you will get 880 Achievement points

World of Warcraft’s achievements system will launch with more than 500 individual achievements covering every aspect of gameplay, including world exploration, PvE, PvP, professions, and character development; from the purely whimsical to the truly epic, there will be something for everyone. Some achievements come with in-game rewards such as tabards, vanity pets, and titles. All of these rewards are purely cosmetic and just for fun, but you’ll certainly stand out when you proudly display them.

And don’t fret about running out of achievements anytime soon. The list is easily expandable, so you can expect additional achievements with each new World of Warcraft content update.

The Achievements Window
Upon starting your journey in Wrath of the Lich King, you’ll see a new button on your main action bar. Click that button to bring up the achievements window.

The top of the window displays the total number of points you’ve received for completing achievements. Below, each achievement appears with its name, description, point value, the completion date, and a progress bar (if applicable). Some achievements expand to display a list of individual components, highlighted to show which parts you’ve finished. You can also designate which achievements to track as you play, similar to the existing quest tracker. An important design goal is to provide players with everything they need to know to unlock an achievement.

It’s great to be able to see your own achievements -- but it’s even better to let the world know what you’ve accomplished. By right-clicking other players and selecting the appropriate option, you can compare your achievements to theirs. Every time you earn a new achievement, your accomplishment is announced to your guild and everyone in your immediate vicinity -- and the custom achievement animation and sound effect are unmistakable. Also, your achievements will be viewable on the Armory, allowing you to track and show off your accomplishments via the web.

Feats of Strength
Feats of Strength represent the past glories of Azeroth, and as such, players will find them very difficult -- if not impossible -- to earn. They’re worth no points, and unlike normal achievements, unearned Feats are not displayed in the achievements interface. Feats include old-world player-vs.-player ranks, obtaining rare mounts, special titles, and more. Feats of Strength will be awarded retroactively (that is, they’ll be immediately granted to your character if you qualify) since many of them will be impossible to earn in Wrath of the Lich King.

Types and Categories of Achievements
World of Warcraft’s achievements come in several varieties. Some simply require specific actions to unlock, such as getting a haircut or defeating a member of each race in your opposing faction in PvP. Others involve a progress bar and require you to do something several times -- such as give out 10 hugs. Some achievements are progressive; for example, once you complete an achievement to collect 10 vanity pets, you might next be asked to collect 25. Finally, meta achievements unlock when you complete other achievements -- unlocking all World Exploration achievements (see below) unlocks a World Explorer meta achievement. Some achievements, including those that involve quests, honorable kills, items currently in your possession, skills (including professions), exploration, and reputations, will be applied to your character retroactively.

To help keep track of all the different achievements you can unlock, you’ll find the following categories in the achievements window:

Player-vs.-Player
This includes arena, battlegrounds, and world player-vs.-player objectives. A few examples:

* Hot Streak: Win 10 ranked arena matches in a row.
* Alterac Valley All-Star: Capture graveyards, towers, and kill the enemy leader all in one game.
* City Defender: Kill 50 enemy players in your faction’s capital cities.

Dungeons and Raids
Every end boss of every raid and dungeon in the game grants its own achievement. Future achievements in this category may include ones for completing a run without any player deaths, with fewer than the maximum number of players, or within a certain time limit.

Professions
Advancing to each tier of mastery in a profession earns you an achievement, and there are specific achievements for secondary skills (with major professions to follow).

Quests
Quest-based achievements include completing a certain number of quests and completing specific quest lines. This category contains zone-specific subcategories.

Events
Seasonal events such as the Midsummer Festival, the Lunar Festival, and Hallows’ End have specific achievements of their own.

World Exploration
You’ll earn achievements by exploring each zone in the game -- and get meta-achievements when you fully explore a continent.

Reputations
This set of achievements includes attaining exalted reputation with each faction in the game.

General
These achievements tend toward the whimsical, including getting a shave and haircut (a new feature of Wrath of the Lich King), obtaining a certain number of tabards and vanity pets, falling from a great height, and more.

I'm sure that as a level 70 you can handle 2 level 65 guards. And that's all you'd have to kill, because once they're dead you can mount up.

If you're referring to Teldrassil/Darnassus, there are more than two guards that will spawn. At any time if a Horde character enters Alliance territory (or vice versa) - meaning cities and some towns, multiple guards will spawn, and shortly finish off your character if not careful.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but in addition to the Title "The Explorer" Wotlk wiki has model images of a tabard reward for completing this achievment, it just looks like a mini globe of Azeroth in the middle of your chest.

It seems the single achievements for the zones only count those subzones that actually unlock a patch of the map, certain small ones do not count, e.g. Night Run in Ashenvale. Well, the single achievements do say " revealing the covered areas of the world map" ;)

That's from wowwiki.com and the reference they use for the information comes from "blue" poster Tigole on the WoW forums. Here's his/her quote on the subject...

"You won't be able to spend achievement points. If you direct me to where you saw this posted, I can have it corrected. You can earn titles, tabards and pets currently through the system but you do not have to spend points to obtain them. They'll come to you in the mail."

Even at level 60, running through Darnassus wasn't any problem. The only part where the guards will even bother you is down by the docks, and once you've teleported up they won't follow you anymore.

There is no "hard part" of this achievement. It just takes a lot of time to travel everywhere.

It seems that Darnassus has gotten a large number of extra guards since I first posted about it. If you're horde, expect to die doing that part of the achievement. Repeatedly.

After exploring every single part of Azeroth and Outland, I think I have found the most desolated and unknown zone in World of Warcraft up to Northrend;

Got the Outland one today, patch day, along with about half of the Eastern Kingdoms. It's very easy. Just make sure you get as much of the old world zones explored because the riding crop becomes unusable at levels higher than 70. And if you're planning on going for this achievement, you'll want all the speed boosts you can get. Unless of course they come up with a WotLK version of the riding crop, but i haven't seen one yet.

In the achievement screen (in game) it lists "Medium Rare" in a way that suggests it would count towards The Explorer title. I completed that achievement, and now it lists "Bloody Rare" as well. Does anyone know if these are indeed required for this title? Or are they simply tacked on to the exploration tab? Thanks!

I'd just like to confirm that you CAN complete this achievement without being able to fly. I swam to three areas (one each in Sholazar, Storm Peaks, and Icecrown), and there were a couple of areas that I was only able to get within the radius of after lots of frustration and jumping (like Frosthold in SP--I don't have the flight point there, just got credit for opening it on the map).

Teldrassil is not as hard as people think. hit the portal and let yourself die inside the city. then u will be able to ress at the spirithealer outside city.
Easy way for low lvls to get teldrassil.

This is obviously easier if you can cloak yourself. Horde pals may have trouble since two of the cities require transports to reach and then you have to get out of the city to the rest of the island.

Somehow it's more achievement points than Loremaster. Oh well.

If you're bored, make a character named Dora, and get that title.

I don't know if anyone had the same thoughts I did for exploring northrend but, I thought I had to do the Northern Exposure (kill a rare elite in Northrend) achievement to get the Explore Northrend portion of this achievement. We do NOT have to do that achievment if anyone was wondering.

In fact, to do Outland or Northrend you just need flying mount (I reccomemnd epic flying mount, but blue mount can be aslo) and Cold Weather Flying for Northrend.

The hardest part is to explore Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor. First, you can't fly and second, you need to pass enemy territory.

Make sure during this Achievement, that when you move from each place you have complete the Achievement for the place. If you insecure about where to discover, easly done by looking at the Achievement for discoverying the place. If you miss something and don't know where it is. Simpely use wowhead to look it up!.

The dranei place was no problem for me, but Darnassus was a little tricky, I actually got killed by 2 alliance and like 6 guards after I was knocked off my mount. I laughed about it and waited for them to run away and I just ankh'd and went on exploring. And then when I got to Stormwind I figured that I would try and be slick and fish in Stormwind, needless to say I didnt make it out of the Trade District lol. And I'm getting a name change to Dora, I already have the named reserved =).

Just did this yesterday. Took me about an hour and a half to do all of Outlands and Northrend, and the rest of the day to do Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Ironforge and Teldrassil were the two worst for me since I'm horde. Teldrassil for obvious reasons. IF becase you have to run up that damned hill trailing 75's and all the alliance dueling outside took me out once I was flagged from entering the city gates.

This achivment is easy mode. The only thing it takes is time and patient. Remember to use the normal map it works very good. Some parts are harde to se what u don't have been. Then look at a map from here and compare.

For the hole exploration it took like 6 hrs for me.

And the ally cities is really easy. Darnassus is just to run trough and SW and IF you don't need to be completly inside just run a bit in to the front gate.

This achievement is absolutely doable at level 70. Be prepared to die alot, and go to Northrend naked to save yourself the heartache of having to spend all your money on repairs. Its quite difficult to get at 70 but for those who do, congrats from one explorer to another.

I suggest getting the Cartographer addon, going to the Foglight settings, and choosing a colour (I have dark green) which unexplored regions will be - very easy to see where you have to go, even when you can barely see it on a map without foglight on.

I'm currently working on the achievement, me being a level 74 Blood Elf warlock. I nearly have all of Eastern Kingdoms. Luckily I already had the Alliance cities explored because of the Fire Festival quest to steal the flames, but enemy territory exploration isn't too hard. Just make sure you keep running. So far I've only died once, and that was falling off a cliff because I had autorun on.

I do suggest having people to talk to or a movie to watch, because it can get pretty boring.

The problem with this is doing Azeroth, its a huge area and it takes a really long time to do this.

Outland and Northerend is no problem if u got an Epic Flying Mount, i was really ready for this achievement when i dinged 77, had done all Azeroth and it was just to begin flying around in the area`s of Outland and Northerend, took me a couple of houers to do this, and if u got an movie to watch or some frinds to talk to, this isn`t going to be any problem.

Finished this achievement as a level 74 warlock (Horde). Storm Peaks took a lot of dying to get to the right places. Being an alchemist and therefore being able to make Invisibility Potions helped a lot in Icecrown. I take it doing it as a rogue or mage would be easier, but it wasn't -that- bad.
Also having a voidwalker to send through and distract mobs is a good way to get just a little further before dying.

If you're a mage and have learned the Invisibility spell (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=66), you can use this to cross the thresholds of enemy cities without pulling any guards. This will flag you for PvP, so if you don't feel like killing off the opposite side just then, run in quickly, nab the exploration, and then run away and Blink when the Invisibility wears off - the enablement of the PvP won't cancel the Invisibility and you shouldn't pull any guards this way. Good luck! :)

I have 7 areas left to explore. The add on that helped me the most is from wowmatrix and is called mozzfullworldmap. It shades all the areas needed in blue

EDIT : Finished this up day after this post. The add on made this really easy but may mess up quest helper a little bit. My advice, pick a day to work on just this then get rid of the addon as you wont need it anymore. I also found that when you get near the other factions bases, you just need to get close enough for the message "HORDE TERRITORY" (or ALLIANCE) whichever to show up, give it a second and you got it. I didnt get flagged once during the entire time I explored.

I already have everything Explored except Northern when LK came out so this one was actually easy for me. I don't recomend anyone without a epic mount explore Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, seeing as they are the hardest ones.

It is possible to get this achievement without Cold Weather Flying. You can get into Storm Peaks and Icecrown on a land mount (just waddle over the mountains), and have a Warlock and a friend summon you to those "impossible" places, like the Overlooks in the Basin.

Got this achievement at level 73, and had never been so proud.

Finally got this half way through level 70 on my death knight! I think my death count was somewhere in the mid 100s, most of which were in Icecrown and Storm Peaks. Had to have a flying mount for some of the discoveries in Outlands, but in Northrend, as long as you can find the sweet spots for the area discoveries, you don't have to have cold weather flying.

Elixer of Water Walking helps ALOT on Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms if a DK or Shaman aren't available. A Flying Mount is needed for Outland and Northrend. If you're broke, well you're out of luck then >.>;

My level 61 druid got this. He had to be ported to Northrend, of course, and he died many times. Teldrassil was by far far the hardest in Azeroth (because, of course, the hardest would be Northrend), as the guards in Darnassus are really a pain. Still, I got this achievement really early, and whenever I join a group people (unless they have someone to help them get Jenkins or so) don't have titles.

If you want to do Outlands at any level (I would be guessing something around mid-70s) just fly - it's faster and you don't aggro mobs, even if they're too high for you. Also, you can just fly from continent to continent with incredible ease. Getting into those high perches is also no problem. If you don't have flying, a 100% mount will do, but it will be harder.

Northrend - if you don't have Cold Weather Flying...I got my friend who introduced me to the game years ago to help me. We just rode around. However, if you don't have a friend, you'll die more than a few times (or not, depending on your level). Anyways, to put it in a short sentence:

Flying made a world of difference in getting this reward!

If you are HORDE, you still need to get to the Azuremyst and Bloodmyst Isles. Don't swim or take and Elixir of Waterwalking. You will die. Take the Alliance ship leaving from Darkshore. You can get to Teldrassil with a fast mount and the elixir though - only just. :) /moo

Man, after an entire day of running around in Azeroth, I finally got this achievement! Azeroth was the hardest to explore due to the large amount of land and only being able to use a 100% mount, but even then, it was very interesting and sort of fun exploring lands I've never seen firsthand. As a mage, I unknowningly started this achievement while doing the Midsummer achievements (along with questing), having uncovered many areas with the huge help of my ports. Find a good chair, grab some snacks, pop a few good movies, and have fun!

I'm currently doing World Explorer solo as well and can confirm that Explore Northrend is indeed doable without a flying mount. The only places in game which requires a flying mount are "Socrethar's Seat - Netherstorm", "Vortex Pinnacle - Blade Edge Mountains (And the other 2 parts up there), "Crystal Spine - BeM (and the other part up there), "The Twillight Ridge - Nagrand", "Skettis - Terrokar Forest", "Netherwing Ledge - Shadowmoon Valley" and "Throne of Kil'Jaeden - Hellfire Peninsula".
Some clewer use of spirit healers and regular common sence is needed though :-)
Got Northrend and Kalimdor explored so far myself - Outland next.

One of the good but used achieviements theese days...leeroy is too so really somefew more achieviements thats general and has a title could be needed, just to say you need to explore everything on the map and it can take time but atleast you have all the zones covered.
For a second thing don't try to do this if your not 80, you can do the other zones than the enemy starting zones, guards have being improved with level to level 75 so watch out.

Bloodmyst isle (11-20 dranaei zone) was the worst of all. The isle is the size of a peanut but has 28 areas to explore. On any other normal map you just have to walk around riding towards the major landmarks to uncover the land, bloodmyst isle actually demands that you visit tiny settlements and such (think STV only 10x worse). That tiny island northeast of bloodmyst (wyrmscar) has 4 locations alone.

Azshara is another horrible place. Once you jump down to the ruin-coast there's only a few places where you can get back up on the cliffs, i spend 15 minutes looking for those ramps upward.

As a death knight i found that when venturing in alliance zones (i'm an orc) using path of frost is a true blessing. Especially when going to azuremyst/bloodmyst/teldrasill.

I have just completed this with my Night elf and I just wanted to give a pat on the back to all the Horde explorers out there who have had to get through Darnassus. Ironforge, I suspect, is not a breeze either with the hill filled with guards all the way up.

The hardest one for me was Silvermoon as you need to get a way into the city to get the discovery and I couldn't find a 'back way' like with Thunder Bluff, or with Valley of Trials and the Tauren Starting area (the name escapes me, many apologies).

Kudos to you, guys, keep exploring.

As far as i know, in Cataclysm, you will be allowed to use flying mounts on Azeroth, so getting this achiev. won't be too hard.
Please confirm if you have any further info.

Some parts of the map are bugged (Some of the ruins in STV for example) and can give quite a headache at times. I recommend using the Carographer TomTom addon, and looking up the coordinates to make things go faster.

A little bit of speculation here, but I think that the achieves and title will be converted into feats of strength in Cata. What would make it cooler is if they changed the achieve to "old world explorer" for having old Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimidor explored (I doubt Northrend and Outland will change) and change the title to "<name>, Explorer of the Old World" to reflect the changes to the world.
