Currently there are 116 cooking recipes in the game (pre-WotLK). Of these, the Thistle Tea recipe can only be obtained by rogues (it was possible for non-rogues to get the recipe several patches ago when it wasn't BoP yet, so a few lucky people that aren't rogues will still know how to brew this tea).

All the other recipes can be obtained by players of any class or faction, even if some are quite hard to get, so the maximum number of recipes most people can get before the launch of Wrath of the Lich King is 115.

If you look up the Wowhead database for Cooking spells at https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spells=9.185 there are 167 spells listed for all the currently known cooking recipes. If you, however, subtract the 6 levels of cooking and the basic campfire spell that are listed there, there are exactly 160 cooking recipes currently in the database.

Hopefully there are more recipes forthcoming from the beta, since otherwise this achievement will only be open to rogues who have completed half of the AQ questline up to the Chimaerok Chops quest, and who are probably Alliance since there are 8 Horde-only recipes to be obtained through the neutral AH, as opposed to 16 Alliance-only.

I counted them out manually. There are indeed 117 available recipes for cooking pre WotLK. The achievements for those recipes seem to count the camp fire, which striktly speaking is a cooking recipe as well, because i am at 99/100 with only 98 recipes in my book. So 118/160 is max you can get before Wrath is out.

I have double checked this three times, the maximum you can get before Wrath is 117 for non-rogues and 118 for rogues, which confirms some of the people above. You can check your missing ones by using the search bar in your cooking tab, using this list https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spells=9.185.

I personally have 115, the three I am missing are:

You are mixing up Thistle Tea and Goldthorn Tea.

Goldthorn Tea is obtained in Razorfen Downs from Henry Stern.
Thistle Tea however, is (now) a Rogue-only recipe, which can be obtained through a quest chain at Ravenholdt (and be bought after completing that). Old Version / New Version

I counted it 3 times, and others above me said the same as me.

Try to count from here:

There are 50 shown at each site.

On the first page there are actually only 47, because there are 3 others: Cooking - Apprentice, Basic Campfire and Cooking - Journeyman.
On second page there are also 47, because there are 3 others: Cooking - Expert, Cooking - Artisan and Cooking - Master
On the third page there only 22, because the rest is WotLK recipes, whose Reagents aren't decided yet. There are 27 WotLK recipes on the third page. And then the Cooking - Grand Master. Which gives 50.
On the fourth and last page, there are 17 WotLK recipes.

To spell it out, to those who still didn't get it. Those 22 on the third site is: Ravager Dog, Stormchops, Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops (hard to get :/), Kibler's Bits, Blackened Sporefish, Sporeling Snack, Blackened Basilisk, Stewed Trout, Grilled Mudfish, Poached Bluefish, Hot Apple Cider, Skullfish Soup, Spicy Hot Talbuk, Golden Fish Sticks, Roasted Clefthoof, Talbuk Steak, Warp Burger, Crunchy Serpent, Mok'Nathal Shortribs, Spicy Crawdad, Fisherman's Feast and Hot Buttered Trout. Which gives us

27 + 17 = 44 WotLK recipes, which is only what is in Wowhead's database right now.
116 + 7 +44 = 167.

And btw, it's the same on this site https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spells=9.185, which is the WotLK version. There has just been mentioned the reagents for some of coming recipes. Still my calculations are right.

And then at last: As I said before, some of you will maybe have 117 or 118 shown in your achievements. That is because of a bug in WoW. The achievement shows actually 2 more than you really got in your Cooking book.

I wonder why people rate me down, without commenting me? My information is actually very right, else correct me in word but not rating :)

Is there any way to get the recipes from quests that you have deleted? I'm fairly certain I already did Soothing Turtle Bisque but that was way before TBC when cooking wasn't all that good. I'm pretty sure I deleted the recipe. I'm gonna go to Hillsbrad right now and check if they have it for sale or something, but I think Blizz needs to make sure people can get recipes they've deleted.

I just leveled cooking to 375 and decided to try buying/finding all recipes ingame. Even though the recpie addon is useful, it didnt really help me to find all recipes in one region at a time.

So I complied a list of Vendor recipes for the Horde so that I could quickly locate those. Now Im sharing this list with you.

Note a few things : Its horde vendor recipes ONLY, menaning it doesnt include quest recipes, ally recipes or anything like that. One other thing - some recipes are found in some or all capital cities and I included those for you to choose where to buy them. I hope there are no typos :)

A side note for those trying to transfer recipes to/from the alternate faction via neutral AH.

You cannot bid/buy auctions from your own characters - even ones of different factions - hence you'll either need the cooperation of another player or two accounts.

This achievement can't be completed atm. There are 4 recipes ingame which are missing (Fish Feast, Kungaloosh, Shoveltusk Soup, Succulent Orca Stew). and having all recipes available (including Chimaerok Chops and cooking daily ones) without these 4 and Thistle Tea will give exactly 159 recipes.

My only guess for some showing 118, is that they may be counting your cooking skill, and campfire as recipes known. Bug, not a bug. I don't know. Just a thought.

This achievement would have theoretically been possible up until a few days ago, even with the 4 missing recipes. If you include the 4 missing recipes, there are 162 in existence (158 without the 4). Achievement log was showing 2 more than were truly there, so if you knew every single recipe, it was possible. But as of a few days ago, my achievement log is only showing one more recipe than I actually have, once again making it impossible. Anyone else notice this? Or am I counting wrong?

Imo it should give us some kind of super recipe, or maybe just a cooking hat to go with the cook title for the other achievement. Or some kind of cooking tabard, that would be cool =)

Looking at the spells available (167) and subtracting the 7 that aren't actual recipes (learning cooking skills & campfire) and the 4 Northrend ones that aren't learnable ATM, leaves only 156 available. Then take into account that some of these are Horde-Alliance only and one is rogue-only...

... and you are left with a very sad panda. :(

The extra count must vary. I used a macro to dump my cooking spells to Excel, and the count was clearly off by only one (137 recipes vs. 138 achievement at current count). My bank alt, right after learning cooking, had an accurate count of 3 for Lunch Lady. Another toon, with level 13 cooking and four recipes, is off by one.

In conclusion, it can't be Basic Campfire, any of the cookbooks, or any of the training. My own theory, that they forgot to subtract the caption from the count returned by the GetNumTradeSkills() API function, does not fly either. I think it's just an inconsistent bug.

I currently have 155/160 recipes. There are 3 that I have not yet gotten from the daily token rewards. I have all other recipes according to Ackis other than the Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops and Thistle Tea (which for some reason doesnt show up on Ackis for me). With the next patch they are adding Fish Feast to the daily token rewards and Kungaloosh to be available from the washed up Dalaran mage. That will bring me to exactly 160 recipes. So it is attainable but you have to get all the pre BC recipes, including the ones sold only by Horde vendors (could be found on neutral AH if you're lucky) and Dig Rat Stew (reward for Horde only cooking quest but is not bop, so once again, check neutral AH).

Nothing adds up for me
Physical count of recipes in my cooking profession list = 151
Recipes left in list for pre 3.08 'The Northrend Gourmet'
Including the 4 as yet unobtainable = 7
Every recipe listed in wowhead known other than these 7 and
Thistle Tea
Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerock Chops
Dig Rat Stew (due soon)

Ackis reports on search, 144/149 and shows available the 3 left in Dalaran, the Chimaerock Chops and Dig Rat Stew. (Thistle Tea not included for class specific search i.e I am non rogue)
Ackis dosen't count Chocolate cake, Captain Rumsey's Rum etc for some reason.

Every other recipe listed on wowhead (other than the ones mentioned) I have in my profession.

Chef De Cuisine Achievment shows 153/160.

Why can I count 2 Less than Chef De Cuisine in my profession?
Even if I take the 153 and add the 7 less 2 getting removed in 3.08 and include Dig Rat Stew when I get it I am still only on 159.
Can someone please shed some light on this, as I have read reports that 160 will be possible by non rogues without the Chimaerock Chops? Are the people who are calculating this to be so also having the same 2 difference as I am? If so is there a recipe that Ackis, Wowhead and myself are not aware of?

At Some point this seems to correct itself (the 2 added recipes) I used to be +2 in the achievement tracker compared to my actual recipe list now I am only +1 which makes this very frustrating as a few recipe's can only be acquired by an alliance quest reward and I am horde... going through the list these are the only recipes I am missing I am not a Rogue so am not including the thistle tea.

so to complete this achievement, I also need to create an alt in the opossing faction, go around the map buying the faction-only recipes and doing the facion-only quests and then somehow find asistance to transfer the recipes thru the neutral AH?

if thats the case, then since im on a pvp server which does not allow the creation of chars in the opposing faction, its gonna be rather hard to get it done me thinks

Ackis will say you are missing Dirge's Chimaerok Chops and Thistle Tea if you are a non-rogue and should show that you have 158 recipes if you have every other recipe so far available in game. There will be 2 added in the next patch to finish off the achievement. But yes to answer your question you do need all the horde-only vendor recipes including the recipe that is rewarded for the horde-only cooking quest for Dig Rat Stew. Fortunately I have a horde friend who let me borrow her account for an hour so I could run around collect all the recipes and transfer them to my alliance char through neutral AH.

According to akris( the ones that I am missing) I will at 157 without thistle tea and the dirge's thing. So that means I NEED the two new ones and Dirge's which from everything I read is not right, I shouldn't need the rare recipe.

If you collect all the available recipies from horde + alliance from quests and vendors and get all the recipies from doing dailies in Northrend and Outland - ignore Thistle Tea (available only to rogues) and the Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops - you end up with a total of 157 recipies pre 3.0.8. Remember Goldthorn Tea which is only learnable by talking to Henry Stern in Razorfen Downs.

In 3.0.8 they add 2 recipes Fish Feast and Kungaloosh which takes you to 159 - at same time they remove 2 recipies from the last Northrend Gourmet which I believe would say they'd remove 2 recipies from the needed 160 too.

My guess is you'll get this at 3.0.8 if you've been good at hunting all the recipies - AND you can get it done if you are missing just one (which normally would be the quest reward on horde side if you are alliance - and vice versa).

Counting in the list shown from the Cooking button, I know 157 recipes. In the Achievement and on Armory (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-statistics.xml?r=Feathermoon&n=Bregdark), it gives me credit for 158. This is before 3.0.8, so I don't have Fish Feast, Kungaloosh, or Worg Tartare yet.

I've been playing for a long time so I do know Thistle Tea (even though I'm a Priest). However, I've never gotten Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops.

Its possible to get this achievement as a rogue pre 3.0.8 (non-rogue aswell I guess if you somehow got the thistle tea when it was still boe). I've not read every reply, but it seems like people claiming its impossible even if you have gotten the Thistle tea recipe and Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops recipes.

I currently have 153/160 for the achievement. I have gone through every recipe in the WoWHead database to see which ones are missing and here are the ones I personally need that exist/will exist:

I do not know whether or not Thistle Tea and Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops count towards the achievement(I suspect that they would), but for right now, This achievement is unatainable(Even if you had Thistle Tea and Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops, that still would be 159/160). I do not know what actually counts as one of those 160, but as on 3.0.8 though with the introduction of three more recipes, it is possible to get this achievement w/o being a rogue or having the Epic Recipe.

This achievement can only be completed by a rogue at the present version of the game (3.0.3), the rogue will need to have both Thistle Tea and Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops.

I have confirmed this by looking at my own Chef de Cuisine counter, im at 157/160, and im only missing Small Feast and Gigantic Feast, which I will get in a few more days of the daily, which will up my count to 159/160. And since im not a rogue, I cannot get the Thistle Tea recipe (thx blizz) to get my last recipe to make up the 160.

So, yes, this achivement can be completed by only 1 class in the game atm or someone who was lucky enough to get the Thistle Tea recipe before it was changed. Perhaps some cooking fan rogue would confirm this? Yep, I know you're out there...

There seems to be a lot of confusion about how many recipes are there. As of right now, patch 3.0.3, there are exactly 160 recipes in game, and thus it is possible to get the achievement although it's not easy. Out of these 160 the most problematic are:

-- obtainable only by rogues, as it is a reward from rogue-only quest
-- quest reward in AQ Opening quest chain. Obtaining this recipe requires running some old-world 40-man raid instances like BWL.
-- quest reward from a level 15 horde-only quest. You won't see much of these on the AH because obviously only one recipe can be obtained per character, and most people would sooner learn the recipe themselves than put it on a neutral Auction House.

Next patch, 3.0.8, will add two more easily obtained recipes:

As of patch 3.0.8 today, I think this achievement may be bugged.

Before the patch I had collected all of the available recipes in game except for Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops and Thistle Tea (I'm not a rogue). I had a total of 158/160 recipes for the achievement. Patch 3.0.8 came out, I bought the new recipes Worg Tartare, Fish Feast, and Kungaloosh to get the achievement.

Worg Tartare counted for the achievement, so I had 159/160. Neither Fish Feast nor Kungaloosh counted. So now I technically have 161 recipes, but the achievement still shows me as having 159/160. I'm hoping this is a bug otherwise it's going to take me a while to get Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops.

After 3.0.8 Patch my recipe count just went from 156/160 to 154/160.
After Learning Wolf Tartare, Kungaloosh, and Fish Feast I'm now at 157/160.

It seems as though they fixed the "phantom recipe" bug.

As an Alliance Human Mage, it is currently possible to attain this achievement without https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=21025, but you will need every single other recipe available in the game. I recommend Ackis Recipe List if you are shooting for this achievement.

Something changed with patch 3.0.8 -- evidently, the 2 "mystery" recipes that counted in your recipes list got removed. Before the patch, I had 154 recipes. On the day patch 3.0.8 came out, I learned Fish Feast, Worg Tartare, and Kungaloosh... and my total is now 155 (I had expected 157). I have a friend's Horde alt with 3 recipes I don't have yet (Dig Rat Stew, Heavy Crocolisk Stew, and Savory Deviate Delight) ready to sell me across a neutral Auction House, thinking it would have finished the achievement.

Now, it will get me to 158/160, and aside from Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops and Thistle Tea (I'm a paladin, not a rogue), I can't see anything I've missed. Sigh.

Got this achievement yesturday when patch went live, at the time I acquired it I was only missing:

Kungaloosh and Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops.

I'm a mage so all recipes less two will get you this achievement.

I think Blizz changed something with how it tracks recipes.

Before 3.0.8 I would be at 159 recipes and just missing the Chimaerok Chops and Tasty Lion Steak (Alliance only quest recipe), but now it says I'm at 156? What is this, Blizz? ):

Even if I was a rogue and could get the tea recipe it'll only be 159... I don't think I'm missing anything really obvious, because I used that scanning addon to see what I didn't have.

After getting very annoyed and triple-checking here is the deal as of patch 3.0.8 with this achievement...

There are 170 recipes total, but some do not count:

-1 for Basic Campfire
-6 for the cooking levels

Leaves us at 163. However, there are 2 odd "recipes" that don't appear to be trainable:

- Roasted Turkey: Appears to be part of an Outland Horde quest that is a property of an item, not trainable
- Tasty Cranberries: Never seen or heard anything about this, no recipe link, and looks like a glitch.

So, that leaves us at 161.

If you are not a Rogue, -1 for Thistle Tea which means you can just sneak this one in.. but be aware of 2 monsters..

Savory Deviate Delight - Only found in the Barrens this is a rare drop. Expect to grind for quite some time or pay many thousands of gold (more for Alliance)

Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops - Reward about half way through the extremely long, AQ Scepter of the Sands questline. Sometimes pops up in the AH for mega-bucks.

Rogues will have a slightly easier time with this as they'll only have to do one or the other. Personally, I'm waiting for a future patch which might add 1-2 sane recipes. Good luck!

Edit: Some people appear to be stuck with a lower number (some at -1, others at -2) than the number of actual recipes they know. Opening a ticket may or may not help.

I am one recipe away from the 160 total, and that recipe is the Fish Feast, which I will get easily with one more cooking award. I do not have Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops, and I am not a rogue, but a druid.

I was missing two recipes for the longest time. As it turned out, I had fallen victim to the Goldthorn Tea bug and had unlearned it somehow, and I had also missed Spiced Chili Crab from the vendor in Westfall. I went through the recipe list here on Wowhead item by item and compared it to my own recipe list in the game to discover the two missing recipes. I highly recommend doing this carefully, as prior to checking, I was almost certain I had everything.

Anyway...does anyone know if the 10 points are the only reward for this achievement, or if there is a secret reward (like the Kirin Tor Familiar or the Giant Sewer Rat) that we can unlock in getting this? It would be nice to have a little something extra considering all the cross-faction bargaining we have to do to obtain the points!

This sucks. I had 158/160 yesterday. Today I AH transferred over 3 alliance recipes- Tasty Lion Steak, Kaldorei Spider Kabob, and Roasted Moongraze Tenderloin. This should have given me 161 and the achievement. Ackis says I have 161/162 minus Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok chops. Blizz needs to fix this!

I play Horde on a PVE server. I have Alliance toons I haven't played in two years. I looked up the Alliance only Faction exclusive recipes on WoWWiki. Logged in to my old Alliance toon and bought the ones from the vendors in Stormwind and Darkshore.

I created a Draenei just for the level 6 quest The Great Moongraze Hunt and created a Night Elf for the level 7 Recipe of the Kaldorei each took about 35-45 minutes then I mailed the recipes to my high level Alliance. I got help from a buddy who I gave the recipes to, he posted them in a neutral auction house and that gave my Horde toon enough to complete the Chef de Cuisine achievement.

If you got to 100 recipes before WotLK went live there is a simple way to see what you have left to cook.

Make sure you get cooking high enough to learn all the recipes off the trainers in northrend. That should put you at about 120 or 121 recipes.

The achievement for Northrend Gourmet (45 recipes) is your check off list. 120 + 45 = 165, more than enough recipes for this achievement.

If you're starting from zero cooking...read all the posts above.

This achievement is bugged (for me). I have got 160 recipies - but according to the "achievement" - I've only got 159

I think ive got all obtainable recipies by now - including horde recipies. I am priest - so it seems only rogues can complet this achievement

My addon (ARL) thinks ive got 162/163

I have reported thios to GM - who wrote back they will look into it - so I guess the problem will be solved in due time

I've installed today the recipe addon, it says I still miss 11 recipe (6 from tokens and 5 from horde quest/vendors) without Thistle Tea (I'm not a rogue) as I thought and gives me a progress of 151/160, but the achievement says only 148/160 :(
Assuming that the achievement is correct, I can never get 160 recipes, but only 159
Something happened with the last patch? Can it be a bug with removed recipes, cooking books or basic campfire?

EDIT: Just asked to a GM, he confirmed that more than one recipe isn't counted in the achievement and they will investigate

This achievement is bugged. I have 162 recipes (missing thisle tea) and it registers that i have 159. Speculation is that on the patch day when people learned the new recipes they weren't properly recorded because people who learned the recipes days/weeks after the patch were able to get the achievement.

I spoke to a GM about this tonight - I am also stuck on 159/160 with all recipes known except Dig Rat Stew. My husband has exactly the same recipes as I do and has the achievement, Ackis Recipe List reports me as having 161/162 recipes.

According to the GM there was a bug in 3.0.2 or 3.0.2 which caused one recipe to be counted twice, this was 'fixed' in 3.0.8. According to the GM, my husband must have got in before the fix.

The small problem with this is we had exactly the same recipes going into patch 3.0.8, and both got the 3 new recipes since the patch. For my husband it awarded him the achievement, for me it didn't. According to the GM there are only 160 vaild recipes in game (161 for rogues), so to get the achievement I will now need to get Dig Rat Stew.

Don't know if this will help anyone else.

My character knows 159 receipes (all obtainable receipes without thistle tea and AQ opening event receipe). But the achievement only shows 158 receipes obtained...

So instead of showing two more receipes than I own, i'm left with 1 less, so the achievement is impossible on my character (because i can't become a rogue).

just earned this achievement yesterday by my ally shaman
and i found there are at least 161 cooking recipes a non-rogue classes ally player can get

but:
one of them is Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops (AQ chain reward)
one of them is Dig Rat Stew (horde side quest reward)

and i have skipped the 1st one and obtained exactly 160 cooking recipes

so if anyone plan to earn this, he/she may need to farm the booty bay AH or.. lfm for BWL raid...

I, too, am stuck at 159/160 according to achievements, but according to ARL I have learned 161 of the 162 recipes available to me as a Hunter. (Missing only Chimaerok Chops like so many others.)

Thistle Tea: One more reason to despise rogues! :)

I hope they fix this soon. And if any blues are reading this, it would be nice if I could get the date on the achievement set back retroactively to the day I actually SHOULD have been awarded it. But I know that probably won't be possible.

I also have Ackis, and it still tells me I need 2 more recipes for this achievment (says I'm at 158/160). However, I got the achievment last night. Apparently, you get credit for 2 recipes that Ackis does not give you credit for (I have no idea what they are). I do not have Dirge's or Stormchops (well over 100 daily cooking quests down and this has still never fallen on this toon).

Now, if Stormchops will fall, I can finally be a Chef . . .

The last few recipes I bought were from the alliance side (I'm horde) and the final recipe was Worg Tartare, but my achievement did not go off. I realized the problem when I counted my recipes in the cookbook (158) checked my achievement counter (159) and my Ackis add-on (160). At least the counter and the add-on were the same until 159. Don't know why Worg Tartar did not get credit, but I decided not to give up. I knew there was a bug, but I wanted to find out a work around and get the achievement anyway.

If recipes had been removed, that wouldn't explain why one recipe would still go uncounted. If the add-on was wrong, that wouldn't explain the achievement count being off either. I read all of the postings and by process of elimination, my best guess was that the add-on and the achievement counter was off. Since my hand count was that I was at 158 and since the goal for Northrend Gourmet was to get ALL of the recipes, I decided to get the final two recipes for the win. Certainly, Blizzards intent was that a true chef would collect every one. Made sense at the time.

I was still missing Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops and the alliance quest reward, Tasty Lion Steak. I was lucky to find someone selling the Chimaerok Chop recipe and pretty much beat it out of him (I really wanted to avoid that rep grind). The moment I learned it I got the achievement. Well, that shot holes in my theory since by hand count I'm now at 159 recipes, my achievement counter clicked to 160, and Ackis add-on now says 161. Two other folks checked my hand count too.

If there's a work around, I can't explain it. Sounds like this problem has more than one variable at issue here. Good luck trying to get this one folks.

Okay, there's a lot of misinformation/speculation here due to the problems Blizz had getting all the cooking recipes properly implemented prior to 3.0.8. However, as of 3.0.8, it seems you must have Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops to complete this achievement if you are not a rogue.

I have every cooking recipe listed in wowhead, with the exception of Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops and Thistle Tea (I am not a rogue). I have triple-checked this by copying all recipes from wowhead into notepad, then going through my in-game cookbook (running WoW in a window) and marking each recipe in notepad as I come across it in my in-game cookbook. I am not missing any aside from those two. And yet the achievement window lists me at 159/160. There is simply no mistake here.

So either there is another hidden recipe wowhead doesn't know about, or my account is somehow bugged, or you do in fact need Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops to complete this achievement. This makes sense since Chef de Cuisine is not one of the requirements for Hail to the Chef, as is the case with many other "near-impossible" achievements (for example catching the ultra-rare fish or killing the ultra-rare mobs for the fishing/exploration achievements).

One other thing: I know Ackis Recipe List is being recommended by a lot of people, and it's a great add-on, but it's wrong. It lists me at 161/162 (even though I count 159). So why is this wrong? Because it counts Expert and Master Cooking (the ones you learn from books) as recipes. You can see this very clearly if you set the filter to also show the recipes you know. It's a pretty safe bet that WoW is not counting these as recipes toward the achievement (and hence why it says I know 159 recpies on my achievement statistics page).

I'm starting to wonder if people who learn Expert and Master cooking at some point AFTER the achievements system was implemented are getting credit toward the achievement, and those of us who learned it before are not. That would explain away pretty much every conflicting story that's been posted here.

You can most certainly complete this Acheivement as of today (4 Feb 09) without the very difficult Chops recipe. I just completed it. I do not have Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops (too hard to get), Thistle Tea (not a rogue), or Kungaloosh (not high enough level yet). I'm alliance and do have Dig Rat Stew, but if I were high enough level for Kungaloosh I wouldn't need that either.

You must be missing something or there is a bug, which is very possible.

Here is the Armory link, as you can see Arch is a mage so can't have Thistle Tea and at level 71 so he can't have Kungaloosh (and Kungaloosh is missing from his Northrend Gourmet Acheivement). But he does have the Chef de Cuisine Acheivement with 160.

There do appear to be bugs with the acheivement counters. All my mains lost about 50 quests on the Seeker counter in January. A GM said they had heard reports of problems. Told me to keep questing and the points would come back.

To followup in response to Sice, Archelus learned Expert and Master Cooking long ago and was credited with Journeyman/Expert/Artisan/Master all on 10/15/08 when I logged in. I will try to find the time to compile my recipes and post them so we can compare. BTW, I've been using TradeSkillInfo to track my recipes. It doesn't give a total number, but does show what you are missing and can filter opposing faction recipes.

I went through my recipe list and entered all by hand into Excel then double checked it. I have 158 recipes on my list in-game. My counter says 160 and I have the Acheivement. There are three more I do not have - Kungaloosh, Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops and Thistle Tea. I also extracted the recipes from Wowhead and compared it to mine, and the lists agree exactly, except that Wowhead also lists the Roast Turkey and Tasty Cranberries. Clearly, something screwy is going on in the Acheivement counters - see my posts on the 3000 quest Seeker Acheivement for GM comments on that.

A note for those who are after this achievement... Your best bet is to download Ackis Recipe List from Curse.com to see which patterns you need, and where to get them. If Ackis says you have everything, but you are off by 1 or 2 patterns still, your counter is probably bugged much like mine is.

I'm sitting at 157/160, only missing Savory Deviate Delight and Chimaerok Tenderloins. I counted the recipes in the cooking tab, and sure enough, the counter is one off, so I just petitioned a GM.

For those who are interested in the Ackis Recipe List bug, here's the two extra items it will count in the 162/163 total recipes counter. I don't know the specifics behind the achievement counter being "fixed" or "bugged" like it sounds from other posts here, but I am pretty sure that Blizzard fixed or changed it, requiring that you must have Chimaerok Chops in order to complete the 160 recipes. Unfortunately that wasn't the problem for me, instead it's the Stormchops recipe =\

Someone else with more knowledge could fill in the details regarding that, however, here are the screenshots of my current counter, and the two "bugged" items in ARL. (edit: I found out that the "bug" was due to the fact that you used books to raise cooking to the levels listed below, not from a trainer to boost your skill expansion, like all the primary professions)

As of today wowhead has listed 160 learnable cooking recipes with known sources, including Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops, not including Thistle Tea, Tasty Cranberries and Roasted Turkey.

Due to not being likely to get the Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops recipe I'm not likely to get the Chef de Cuisine achievement. C'est la vie.

Got the Chef title anyway. That makes me happy. :)

Id definitely like to see a reward here too, but i want to see something truely unique for all us die-hard chefs. Like a trinket that acts as a portable BBQ (gas grill) that can cook anything anywhere anytime without needing flint/tinder/or an open fire.

Actually, I would like to see an item similar to the Everlasting Underspore Frond that would make a great feast for free, but with say a 1hr cooldown.

Confirming what was said above, there is 162 recipes, but including Thistle tea.
Without Thistle tea and Dirge's Chimaerok, theres 160 left.
This makes you need to havel all horde only recipes, including the quest reward one (BoE).
Its a hard work, im only 2 recipes far from it, im 158/160 now and i already bought the 2 left with my horde toon. My main is Ally btw.
The excelent addon that i use since ever and made this possible for me, even to plan where to go to buy the recipes is Recipe Radar. They show every selled recipe in the game, even the other faction ones, except for the quest reward.

As a Gnome Rogue currently on 148/160, with all the recipes of my faction (looking for horde-only recipes through the Neutral AH, but no luck yet).
To know what recipes I was missing, I went through every recipe on WoWHead manually and found out that the recipes I was missing was:

Here is the 12 recipes I am missing. Exactly 12. The bad thing about it, is that the Roasted Turkey isn't a real recipe, but rather a quest item.

With this as proof I can show that this achievement is one recipe short, even if you happens to be a rogue with Thistle Tea and the Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops recipe. I really hope Blizzard will give us least 2 more recipes, to make this achievement avaible to players not being rogues with Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops.

I wasn't closely looking at my recipe known counter when I was using 300 book, but at the moment I have achievement with exactly 160 recipes known. I'm undead priest and I'm missing 3 cooking recipes from the list I've printed out from Wowhead sometime at 3.0.2 or 3.0.3. These recipes are:

Recipe: Thistle Tea (unobtainable by non-rogues)
Recipe: Tasty Lion Steak
Recipe: Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops

At the time of this writing Wowhead lists 134 cooking recipes. That list also includes 2 cooking books, 2 different Thistle Tea recipes and 2 recipes that were removed from game. Since people report cooking books counting as recipes, there are 130 cooking recipes available from vendors, drops or quests. The other recipes needed for the achievement are trainable.

I'm an Alliance Mage and I only have 2/4 of the seasonal holiday recipe's. I am missing Egg Nog and Hot Apple Cider. By my calculations even if I get the epic Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops recipe, I will only be at 159/160.

Also, my Chef de Cusine Achievement counter says I have 138 and my updated ARL addon (v1.0 RC3 1516) says I have 137. My manual count confirms ARL to be correct at 137. So the way I see it, I'm getting an additonal plus 1 by the achievement counter bug. Without this bug in my favor, I would be 2 recipies short.

So do I have to wait until next Christmas to get this achievement?

I got this achievement the other night after buying the recipe for Savory Deviate Delight from the alliance AH.

The achievement system says i know exactly 160 recipes. The ones I don't know are:

Thistle Tea (I'm a priest and didn't get the recipe back in the days when I could have)
Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops (I'm not going to do this quest line on two characters)
Delicious Chocolate Cake (Been trying pretty much every day since early BC and still no cake recipe)

So technically that's a maximum 163 recipes, that is if the game is counting correctly. (Which I sort of doubt...)

Just so this is clear to everyone, the counting system for this achievement is BUGGED for alot of people. Therefor alot of people will have this achievement yet have under 160 recipe's learnt and vice versa alot of people will have 160 recipe's but not the achievement. This will go on until Blizzard move their behind and fix this bug.

As for the achievement itself with no bugs concerned, there are a grand total of 161 recipe's available to rogue's (with thistle tea) but for EVERYONE else you can ONLY get 160 recipe's, no matter what you think you have or can get, unless you are a rogue or got this recipe while it wasn't BoP in vanilla version then you CAN ONLY get 160 recipe's. Meaning you will unfortunately have to get dirge's chimaerok chops or whatever their name was again.

And yes I am hoping that Blizzard will fix this stupid bug soon and if they do, those of you who have this achievement but don't have all recipe's should get moving unless you want to lose the achievement.

I am currently on 159/160 for this achievement. Night elf druid.

I have gone through every recipe in the list, and I am only missing the AQ questline epic recipe, and the dig rat stew recipe from the level 20 horde quest (which is available from a dwarf NPC in the Barrens in 3.1). I am not including the thistle tea recipe that is now impossible for me to obtain.

Which means there is 161 recipes currently in the game by my count.

Talked to a GM yesterday because my achievement count is 2 behind what ackis says I have (155 according to WoW, 157 according to ackis). The GM said this is a known issue that is being worked on.

I'm missing 3 recipes currently (thistle tea, dirge's chops, and fish feast) but the GM did confirm that him and his roomie have both completed the Chef de Cuisine achievement without getting either thistle tea or the chops recipe. This would put the total recipe count at 162 for Rogues and 161 for non-rogues. No, I did not screenshot this as I didn't think of that until now.

The GM said they do not get a list of what it would take to reach achievements but he seemed to think that learning the campfire and possibly the master cookbook both counts toward the achievement. If they do then once I learn fish feast I should be at 160 and get the achievement once they fix the counter (possibly before, I'm currently 2 dalaran awards from purchasing fish feast so I will update this Saturday to let you know). This was a huge relief as I really don't feel like grinding out Brood rep just to get a stupid recipe.

I can today confirm Chef de Cuisine is bugged. The counter says that I got 159/160, but I counted my cooking list myself 3 times and it is 160, Ackis says I got 160 aswell.
Speaked to a GM aswell and they can nothing do.
Hope they fix it soon or you have to wait to they add the new cooking recipe in the new patch.

when i scan myself with ackis, i get that i is counting the cook book for +150 skill and the 300+ skill book as a recipe,
i dont know if this is as intended, but its far from fair if only some get that and others dont..

I typed out all the recipes I've learned, double checked it, and compared it to the "Master List" of cooking as found here at https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spells=9.185#0+1+7

WoW gives me credit for 151 recipes (*). The following are all the food that are listed above that I don't have the recipe for:

1) Dig Rat Stew
2) Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops
3) Haunted Herring
4) Heavy Crocolisk Stew
5) Hot Apple Cider
6) Roasted Turkey
7) Savory Deviate Delight
8) Tasty Cranberries
9) Thistle Tea

If all these could be learned, that would be a total of 160. Unfortunately, it would seem that both Roasted Turkey and Tasty Cranberries are not available as Recipes.

(*) I numbered my list of recipes (which don't include any "non-food" items such as training books or Campfire making in the list), and it totals 154. I'm guessing that the Winterveil recipes don't count toward this achievement. If this is true, then I'd guess that Hot Apple Cider wouldn't either.

Edit: This toon was created after the release of WotLK - although I didn't actually buy WotLK until the toon was lvl 65. I know bought the book for Expert cooking, but might have gone to the trainer for Master (I doubt it, but I'm not 100% sure).

Re-Edit: I installed Ackis v1.0 RC4 1563 (released March 16, 2009) and it also says 154 recipes learned.

I just got this achievement WITHOUT the epic cooking recipe, Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops. The last 3 recipes I obtained were Dig Rat Stew, Goldthorn Tea, and Smoked Desert Dumplings. Maybe some of you guys were missing these as well.

I have found 161 recipes. One is the rogue only Thistle Tea, leaving exactly 160 for all non-rogues. I would suggest copy and pasting this list into notepad (etc) and then checking off what you have / don't have OR get Ackis Recipe List from http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/arl.aspx just be sure to enable all the filters expect 'known' and then you should see what you are missing. This Achievement most be bugged....
I have a addon called "Ackis Recipe List (1.0 RC3) and i show´s me that there is still 3 recipe in cooking that i don´t have (i have 158 recipe).
The problem is that 2 of this reccipe comes from making Ally quest (Smoked Desert Dumplings) and (Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops). The 3 recipe [Clam Chowder) you can only buy from 2 difrent ally vendor called "Heldan Galesong" in Darkshore and "Kriggon Talsone" in Westfall!

Is this Achievement imposible to make if u are on the Horde side?
Would love some help =)

I'm at 157, but when the patch hits I should get this easily. The recipes with which I had a hard time, and I forgot were:

Dig Rat Stew (only available from Horde quest, but can be traded; in 3.1 it will be available to the Alliance)
Goldthorn Tea (trained from a chef in Razorfen Downs who is trapped before you free him)
Dirge's Kickin' Chops (available from the Ahn'Qiraj scepter quest. Shouldn't be that difficult at level 80).

I wish this little bug you all are having worked for me. Achievement shows 158/160 - Ackis shows Im missing Dirge's and Thistle tea, so even if I get Dirge's I wont get it. I have hand counted, three times, and there is absolutely nothing that I am missing. Not one single alliance or horde recipe that is attainable. I worked too hard on this to have it 'handed' to me when it becomes easy-mode after the patch, and it irks me. BAD.

All i can say is, get an addon that tracks recipes and make frequent visits to the (shared) auctionhouse.
Having a friend make an alliance or horde (depending on your own faction) on your server if (s)he doesn't play there will obviously help to attain those recipes.

I've just gotten the achieve myself still missing 6 recipes according to my addon, 2 from alliance:

The Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops and 3 recipes that seem to be connected to some thanksgiving event.

Making a total of 166 recipes ingame at this moment.

All i can say to the alliance and horde cooks out there on any server, help your opposing faction's cooks and your own wallet by selling those faction bound recipes, cuz there aren't a lot of items that can turn a small amount if silver into a reasonably larger amount of gold.

As of Patch 3.1.0 they finally made a few of the recipes a little easier to share between the Horde and alliance plus took out some of the expense by doing away with the spices and certain other expenses.

Cooking
A new recipe has been added to cooking trainers for making Black Jelly, using several Borean Man O' War as ingredients. While it looks disgusting, it restores more health and mana than the highest level food.
Flint and Tinder is no longer necessary for creating a campfire. You're just that resourceful!
Grub now sells the Dig Rat Stew recipe to players who completed the quest.
Ingredients such as Spices, Apples, and the like have been removed from most cooking recipes.
Players no longer need to complete the Clamlette Surprise quest to gain Artisan cooking. The quest now offers the unique recipe, Clamlette Magnifique. If you already completed the quest, you can visit Dirge Quikcleave in Gadgetzan to learn this recipe (for free).
Prospector Khazgorm, found in Bael Modan in southern The Barrens, now sells the recipe for Dig Rat Stew to the Alliance.
Several Northrend recipes were given greater skill up ranges to make it easier to reach 450 cooking skill.
You no longer need to learn cooking from books. The trainers have finally done their reading and are able to teach you the same thing.

I think this will make leveling this skill and obtaining the achievement a little easier for some while those of us that maxed it out already cry about how easy it is now.

I just got 160/160. If youre Horde and using the Ackis Recipe List addon to track your recipes, watch out because its wrong. It says that Smoked Desert Dumplings are from a quest in Ironforge. Its not it is from a quest that starts/ends at the Innkeeper at Cenarion Hold.

I am stuck at 159 recipes and find it very frustrating. I'm not a rogue, so I can't get Thistle Tea. The problem is that while 160+ recipes are attainable, 3 of them are only available during Winter Veil - and I didn't get those last year. I've researched the recipes (and consulted Acki's add-on) and for a non-rogue 159 is all there is outside of Winter Veil.

I've been all over the world, done tons of cooking dailies, paid decent money off of AH. It's not a lack of time and effort to get this achievement: I simply have to wait until either more recipes come in a patch ... or until late Decemember.

So if I'm right and you're fairly new to this game it is not possible to get this one without some recipes that are only available in certain World Events. Be warned!

Here are a few of the non-standard recipes, organized a bit:

Dig Rat Stew bought from Prostpector Khazgorm (A) or Grub (H).
Goldthorn Tea learned from Henry Stern inside Razorfen Downs.
Smoked Desert Dumplings learned after completing the Desert Recipe quest (given by Calandrath).
Clamlette Magnifique learned from Dirge Quikcleave after completing the Clamlette Surprise quest.
Clam Bar and Sporeling Snack bought from Mycah in Sporeggar (neutral faction required).
Savory Deviate Delight dropped (VERY rarely) off of random mobs in the Barrens, or purchased at the AH.
Captain Rumsey's Lager found in the Bag of Fishing Treasures reward from both the Marcia Chase and Old Man Barlo daily fishing quests (Marcia's Bag, Barlo's Bag).
Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops aqcuired from Dirge Quikcleave for the Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops quest (which is at the end of a LONG chain of quests involving the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj - details on that chain can be found in the comments of the quest page.
Kungaloosh learned from Washed-Up Mage in the Dalaran Sewers after completing The Taste Test quest.

after reading someones comment about Ackis Recipe List i decided to test the mod. it works great for this achievement. just filter out all the recipes that u currently know, then go down the list and ctrl+shift+click each recipe and it will add a marker on the world map where u can go to get that recipe. u might need tomtom for this feature. the markers arnt exact but they at least tell u what town each vendor is in

I got to 159 recipes yesterday noting the following:

* Earned all Alliance recipes from all vendors and quests
* I am not a rogue, so couldn't get Thistle Tea
* I didn't get Savory Deviate Delight because the drop rate was VERY low
* I didn't get Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops because the quest chain is too long
* I had a Horde friend purchase the 7 or so Horde vendor only recipes and purchased them via Booty Bay AH
* I had completed all of the Outland and Northrend cooking dailies and earned all possible recipes from these and Northrend vendor

This left me at 159 recipes

I visited Gadgetzan yesterday to find a vendor with a quest which I completed to get 160:

I seem to have all horde recipes (excluding Chimaerok Chops and Thistle Tea), which gives me 154/160.

There are plenty of alliance only recipes that could get me the final six, but I also notice that there are six new recipes soon to be added to the game - 5 for Pilgrim's Bounty and one from the Day of the Dead event. So if you participate in holidays religiously there will be no need to buy any opposite faction recipes soon.

Check out Kylene, I didn't saw anyone mentioning her.
She directly teaches you 3 recipes that are not available on trainers or in any drops/vendor recipes.
I dinged this achievement after learning 2 of her 3 recipes, so apparently there is a small buffer, you don't actually need all recipes in the game.

Edit: after that I went and bought the 2 recipes from the Sporeggar. Considering that I don't have the chimaerok recipe either, the "buffer" is at least 4.

I just got this on Horde side... trick to keep in mind:
Make an ally toon, go to Stormwind and buy up all the recipes from the guy in old town.... go to darkshore, get clam chowder and fillet of frenzy... get a friend to post on neutral AH (BB, Tanaris, Winterspring) for a "service fee".. buyout and learn... I just got me the last 17 recipes doing this... and didn't get Runn Tum or Dirge's Kicken Chops... yet.... you also need to do the holiday events, learn those recipes, those are ez marks to this cheev
